Hi lads, I am shooting a CZ 457 LRP, it shoots MOA on a good day. Would love to get the most out of this rifle , was thinking about looking into getting a custom barrel, but I’m not sure if it would make any difference to accuracy and if it did, is it possible to get one in Ireland if anyone has any info or advice would love to hear from you

    What distances are you shooting.

CZs are usually sub moa out of the box.

Have you tried different ammo and what type of shooting (BR, rest/bag or bipod/freehand).

I installed a https://proofresearch.com/barrels/cz-455-457-pre-fit-barrel/ barrel on my CZ457. This along with an MDT XRS stock and a Timney trigger, and a few other items certinaly improved the accuracy.

    Hi Cass,

I shoot 50 and 100 m With SK red, I have changed the Trigger spring, and installed bolt shims. I have shot off a back bag, with a Harris bipod, And have tried different cleaning routines. rifle shoots better dirty than it does cleaned. Although it shoots fairly well at about 1 inch to 1.5 inch group at 100 yards, I want to push the envelope and try and make it better.

no I couldn’t get any information on buying one , in the EU, the Us nearly impossible. I was interested in the clerk custom barrels. and the cost was ridiculous. not to mention the paperwork length of time it take to get it in.

I’m after it may not shoot any better than the CZ barrel

if you have any joy getting one, let us know

Have you tried Sam at intershoot ranges in Tyrone, he had Lilja barrels for sale, and Dolphin gun company in the UK do custom barrels

IMO your trying to make a silk purse out of a pigs ear. A CZ 457 LRP will never be able to complete against a 22 target rifle. I had a LRP and could never get it to shoot consistently under 15 - 18mm at 50m. I traded it in ASAP and bought a second hand Anschutz 1710 that with good ammo will shoot MOA at 100mm most days, off a timber block no back bag, in competition, 15 shots in 5 minutes.

I now have an old CZ 452 Lux in an American STOCK, with trigger spring, CZ 457 MTR, trigger spring and shimed, Anschutz 1710 for LV target and club 100m, won many comps with that, and an Anschutz 2013 for HV target.

I'd say use what you have, and use better target ammo for consistency. Center X, RWS R50, ELEY Match. Use your red box SK for practice.

+1 to above buy a Anschutz or even a used Anschutz it's going to outshoot the CZ for less money then a LRP and a new barrel

    hi jack.
CZ LRP are an excellent rifle. You will be able to compete with it at a high level if you put in the time to look for the batch of ammo that your rifle likes.
it’s one thing trying all the brands but it’s the next level to test the batches.
the ammo box should have a batch number either on the end of the box or at the side depending on brand.
i personally shoot RWS as a rule but have had some of my best results with one batch of SK rifle match. (Red box)

in this picture you can see the batch number on the RWS R50. I will regularly test ammo and keep track of the results like this.

I will ad pictures of the groups shot and keep them together for reference.

if you start looking at the batch numbers and testing that way you will find the best ammo for your rifle.

    Best of luck.
