Glorious! What colour is that? And you might be pleasantly surprised about the insurance come renewal.

    loving the wheels btw.

Insurance on my 996 has been surprisingly reasonable over the years tbh, currently with Chubb.

Unfortunately I discovered Design 911 which is a website for those that don’t know that sells literally every part, OEM if you like, for Porsche. I’d imagine it can be addictive and equally, expensive!

The nuts on the wheels were exposed so I bought some new caps for them and I wasn’t a huge fan of the non traditional colour wheel caps. Also bought new lock nuts so they’ll be the last to go once I can get something to remove them.

You're not going to retire on either. I'd go the pension route(I know you're joking).

    S2000.

Good luck Mark, that 911 is a beautiful machine & it will be even nicer when you spruce it up with a bit of tlc. Well wear!!

cheers! Centre caps and lock nuts changed, I would potentially be into changing the lenses on the lower front lights as the polish didn’t really bring them back to what I’d like. There’s also a classic PCM for the 997 now but it’s €2,000 and very hard to justify as much as I would really love the OEM look. Dilemma now is whether to keep the mainly Porsche Dublin history or bring it to a specialist for servicing from now on.

Specialist. Bring it to Ken Bolger of specialist cars in Chapelizod. He knows more about 911s than anyone in the country

I was filming in Phoenix Park last week and drove by and had a nose in from the main road. Had read plenty of good things!

12 months road tax (puke), pad / disc contact issue sorted and a fresh NCT. If nothing else but petrol costs me money for a while, I’ll be happy.

Lovely car. Care to give any update on the experience after a few months?

I have had a kind of half an eye on a 911 for a few years now, or the idea of it perhaps more so. Looked at a few cars before brexit and remember thinking at the time they were reasonable money, but never went ahead with it and life got in the way in the mean time. Still not really ready to action it, but have started looking again recently and am shocked at the prices now, I think as others have said here the UK is not really an option anymore. I think there's some NI carve out on some aspects of the tax bill when importing, but even then it seems a total lottery as to what the Vrt might be and doesn't seem a runner.

Some of the nicer cars here around 2005/2006 mark are now looking for kind of 40/55k sort of bracket, I think I could have got one for under 30 back around 2018! Anyway, I may need to look at more a 1999 sort of vintage now. We are a very, very low mileage household and our current car gets almost no use so very hard to justify an indulgence like this! It would be sitting on the driveway almost all the time. Anyway, found your thread here interesting, looks a beautiful car and hope it's going well.

You can still get a decent early 986 for around the €10-15k mark. It will be vintage in just a few years time, with the €56 motor tax, which makes it a lot less of an indulgence!

Pretty much zero interest in the boxster to be honest. It's purely a 911 itch I want to scratch, not even a sports car as such just like that 996/997 era in particular.

Good experience so far! Had an ABS/PSM light come on a month or so ago and got it sorted in a specialist for €130, didn’t know what to expect when it lit up. I’ve a few other bits that I’d like tidied up on it, nothing major but handbrake could be tighter, sunroof needs some attention (doesn’t always close first time), rear pads need to be done and in an ideal world I’d love to get a classic Porsche head unit for it as the Pioneer is fine but I’d love the OEM look - 2k though for it and that’s 12 months road tax.

Wonderful car to drive, endless revs, doesn’t have to be driven hard, doesn’t really stand out, doesn’t really attract any unwanted attention, glad I did it and especially glad I did it over a Boxster (although there’s absolutely a place for them too).

Gave it a quick wash tonight as it has been a long time. To think I used to have time to wash my car 2 or 3 times a week in my 20s! I’ve a new clay bar, tar remover and wax sitting there for months.

Keep an eye out for a second hand (or refurbished) aftermarket Becker Grand Prix 7990. They’re not selling the aftermarket stuff new anymore but they were a great radio for their time & Becker used to supply the OEM radios for Porsche so it’d look stock. Cd/tuner with iPod connection & Bluetooth for your phone. Came in 4 colours, blue w/red switches for VW, orange, red or green to match the interior dash lights in your Mercedes/Porsche/BMW depending on what you had. Removable front panel too. Seen them online refurbished for between €400-500, might be worth a look.
