You know the deal: PlayStation's secret best series gets a full-fledged standalone title, after its superb VR title and PS5 pack-in game. The reviews are predictably effusive pretty much right across the board.

No thread for this is surprising. Reviews are in and this is, unsurprisingly, a GOTY contender. Anyone who hasn't played the original tech demo on the ps5, why not? You are missing out on a special game.

Praying this is as enjoyable as the original on the PSVR but I have no doubts in my mind it will possibly even surpass it.

First game that's made me a bit jealous of the PS5. It sounds amazing even though the GPU song annoys me.

I see Warhammer is getting a great response. One I must look into myself.

As for AstroBot, I pre-ordered this morning so will download it this evening, have it ready to go for tomorrow evening. Aside from the trailer in the first post, I've tried to not look at anything else that's been released for the game. Go into it as blind as possible.

I learned that space marine 2 is a Russian made and financed game and I just can't support that. Pity as it sounds great.

My controller is with dpd and the game with an post, if past deliveries are anything to go by I will have my controller about 4 hours before the game.

An Post usually about 2pm. DPD usually about 3pm.

If it helps (and sorry for banging on about my game shipping last week), tracking stuck at Order Received until 1.20am the day the game was delivered.

Yeah really looking forward to this one over the wkend - although I have a feeling most of my Astro time will be spent watching/helping the youngest lad play it instead. 😁 Also, thanks to ZeroCool or whomever it was that posted the guide to collecting those 4 hidden astrobots in Playroom - would've been impossible to find them otherwise. Please god there is a Bloodborne themed level in the game.

Tempted by Warhammer too but the PC version can be got for 25 quid cheaper on cdkeys so might hold off on that for now.

Reading the DF feature.onnthe game and how one section makes fun of a much maligned modern gameplay trope has me feeling like it's not a cynical as I first thought.

I really hope the same chap is doing the music again that was one of the best things of the demo, that GPU song always reminded me of Gigi D'Agostino La Passion absolutely no idea why but its a proper earworm

I have faith that Team Asobi will get the balance between nostalgia and novelty / innovation just right. Haven't read any reviews. Gave 1 article a read but it was full of glass half empty guff about a graveyard. Thats enough for me. Rescue Mission and Playroom are all I need to go on.

Having not played it yet, I will say one thing for certain: after the events of the last week, you'd really f**king hope Sony have learned a lesson about where their development priorities should be.

While I'm sure there's a conversation to be had around why it took 4 years from demo to full game, but I care not right now. I just need it to he 7.30pm tomorrow and people won't see me for the weekend. I've the family told to just imagine I'm out of the country for the weekend. I've a hape of the devil's lettuce en route, and I'm looking forward to disappearing into my room for the weekend!

Absolutely. Even if they have a lot of the design, models, game engine etc from the previous game, it's still going to take a while to figure out what to do with them next. How you change it, how you evolve it, what new things to add, then actual level design, sound design etc. 4 years wait for this is fine imo.

Just remembered I should charge my Pulse headphones. I'm sure this will be one of those games where the audio is so good that the Pulse headphones might be the best way to play.

If more first party studios were releasing games of this quality on a 3-4 year development cycle with a modestly sized team, the industry would be in a much healthier and sustainable place right now.

This is what I saw a couple days ago:

Once rescued, you will be able to take these bots to the new game and add them to your starting crew. And in the last few hours preceding the release of Astro Bot, we will hold a special celebration countdown inside Astro’s Playroom.

The 4 new bots are now sitting beside the new game countdown (midnight) inside the PS5 labo so assuming its happening there close to midnight.

Edit: Someone in Australia posted an update at 6 minutes before midnight. "a whole bunch of Bots in that room... For now" so looks like the room with the countdown is the place to be at midnight 🤣. I wont post any more details about it here.

Was it said if this was planned before the PS5 launch or did they just decide to make it based on the reaction to Playroom? Playroom was my first ever platinum. I even had to play through nearly twice due to PS5 launch issue of crashing and losing the save, but it had saved the trophies I had got to that point.

Played the first couple of levels, feels like more of the same so far which is obviously no bad thing. Have just moved into a house where I can have the 5.1 system blaring at all hours and nobody in bed can hear a thing, gonna sound 😃

Sounds good. We haven't used haptics in a long time. The plan here is load up on snacks, charge up the controller, enable full haptics and we'll take turns. Junior has agreed to give up Rust (which he just got and says is very good) for the weekend to play Astro 👍

The lights went down for the last minute and with the bots counting down the last ten seconds. Followed by confetti going off and the party starting at midnight. It was a nice touch.

Played the first mission and it's just as good as I hoped. Plenty of sound effects coming out of the controller
