Regular mini breaks the only way to cope with this perpetual grey wet cold weather .

Cold crisp winter weather is much preferable but we may not even get that !

Last night was lovely if cold ..the most starry sky I have seen for a while .

Lovely morning in Meath. Really high cloud with blue skies. Didn't need a coat on the sidelines. Hurrah. Afternoon has less blue skies now but feels humid. 15⁰.

Not looking forward tomorrow. Kids afternoon GAA match emmmmm.

Yep we are busy tidying up the garden today. My husband was just saying he barely cut the grass this year compared to a normal summer, very little growth.

We also made it to football and park so hopefully they will be so wrecked they won't mind a more lazy day tomorrow when the rain comes😁

Orion is above the horizon the last few nights. A sure sign that winter is coming.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

I was at every AI semi final and final in Kerry's dominant years of the noughties and into the next decade. No, it wasn't always summery, but it was rarely cold and wet and weather is generally drier on the east coast. There were a few rainy AI finals no doubt, like 2011 and 2015, but no way was there low temps like we have at the moment.Even those rainy matches you were still comfortable with just your short sleeved GAA jersey and jacket.

A big feature of this summer and autumn has been below average temperatures, that has been documented.Climate change is a reality, that had been documented too.

Today was a decent autumn day in Tralee.

Orion is a bit shy in Autumn but I saw him just above the horizon to the N/NE a couple of nights ago. He won't be up until after midnight and you'll need a clear sky (and horizon) to spot him. Probably too cloudy tonight. He gets higher and higher as we approach winter. In December/January he is one of those constellations that dominate the night sky.

You've forgotten the 2008 quarter-final that had absolutely biblical rain in August. It was miserable.

    Kerry 1-21 Galway 1-16 (rte.ie)

Giving an exhibition of shooting and wet-weather football, All-Ireland champions Kerry saw off Galway in what turned out to be the first ever floodlit Championship match at Croke Park.

Kerry's class shone through in the dark and miserable conditions.

The fading light, even at a quarter-to-five on a summer's day, meant Croke Park chiefs had to switch on the floodlights for the second half.

Seriously though, Croker can be a very cold spot in late September. Often depends on where you are sitting but that concrete can bring bone shaking cold. A few pints help. Winning also helps keep you warm. Try being a Galway (hurling especially) or Mayo supporter!

Not too bad a day on the Dingle peninsula. Tomorrow doesn’t look pretty though.

I remember it Cluedo, I was there. But that was in early August and the vast majority of the past 20 Augusts have been bad, with most Septembers being a lot better. Which is why I have better memories of semi finals, late August and September finals especially. 23rd August 2009 was a zero birthday for me [won't say which one, lol] And it was the most miserable deluge of a day when Cork won their semi final in Croker, I was there with a Cork friend. To be beaten in the final by Kerry three weeks later on a beautiful sunny day.

On a side note, Kerry supporters of the past 15 years have had plenty of gut wrenching defeats on both rainy and sunny days. But yep the few pints does help to drown the sorrows, even in the drowning rain.🙂

Rain still holding off here in Naas but cannot be too far away. Wind turning gusty starting to pick up.

You might end up with very little rain in Naas with rain shadow from Wicklow Mountains? Will be interesting to see.

Decent morning for the morning run at 9. Actually mild enough.

Afternoon still holding dry for the moment at the teenagers GAA. Wind has definitely picked up since I was out this morning. Suppose the rain might arrive for throw in. Eek.

    15⁰ Meath

September is going to finish about a degree below average and much of October is looking chilly as well. No doubt things will reverse completely once we get to winter.

It wasn't as bad as expected in Dublin until about 1.30pm.

It was very windy but not that cold.

IIt was a different matter this evening absolutely torrential rain and wind.

Some waves out in Portmarnock this evening as we drove by.

Perhaps on the east coast but the west coast stations are showing exactly average or slightly above average temperature (Sherkin, Valentia, Mace, Belmullet)

Forecasters got it very wrong for my area today. Was a mostly dry mild blustery day, but was forecasted to be a washout.

I started yesterday in Cahersiveen where it was pretty wet. Came home just an hour north of Cahersiveen and it was much brighter. By afternoon the sun was coming out and I had a lovely Autumn walk, leaves coming down everywhere now, especially ash. I was delighted! I love those days when you're expecting the worst but get a lot better.

Maybe we should stop obsessing over every Yellow and Orange warning and just get on with our lives. Years ago we didn't know what to expect with the weather and we probably had less anxiety over it all . We sit at home now waiting for the "yellow rain warning " to arrive, plans cancelled, dictated to by Met Eireann or Carlow weather, instead of just getting on with the day.

I draw the line at hillwalking which I do a lot of, weather forecasts are very handy for that pastime!

This morning, M.E text forecast mentions patchy rain and drizzle. It’s moderate/heavyish and persistent and not so patchy.
