The sea is crazy (in Greystones)! Gusting 40 knots and with a NE wind/good fetch = big waves.

Just saw a video there looks wild. Hardly a breeze in Rathdrum although I'm somewhat sheltered from north winds. Rain is fairly coming down now though.

It's been raining here in Meath for over 30 hours at this point, some flooding around the country roads and garden starting to waterlog.

Ah well always a silver lining to this muck weather, football training was cancelled so instead I spent the last two hours putting away the last of the summer clothes and taking down the winter ones.

    All set now🙂

We were due a lot of rain. Exceptionally dry September at many stations. Mace Head only had 12mm up until today. It had 150mm last September. Dunsany has only recorded 20mm of rain in September whereas it got over 100mm last September. Apart from August it was a dry May-Sept in contrast to LTAs.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Absolutely dire all day in Wexford, as was yesterday. Heavy rain most of the day with some torrential downpours, and now a howling gale although the rain has abated a bit.

Just looking at the direction of the rain coming off the Irish sea today….Imagine this was Dec/Jan 😳

10.6C here near Tralee and breezy with fairly frequent short lived showers. Nice when the sun is out, off work today and heading out to the garden to work off the lunch out!

It's been way sunnier in Sligo in September than nearly all the Summer months combined.

    May was like June

    June was like April

    July was like October

August was like well August with monsoon

September is like November nearly bar 1 week

Nice day overall. A few showers but they were very light. I kinda expect chilly air during the Autumn. Making loads of comfort food.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

You just can't be positive about recent trends in Irish weather, it just reads as desperation.

Last week was idyllic. This week is absolute crap.As was the week before the good week. The rain is bad enough but the low teen, or worse the 10C in September, is a game over scenario. And the below average low temps has been a feature of spring, summer, autumn 2004. Brrr 😱

Nobody will convince me this is our normal weather. This is the weekend of the All Ireland football final of old and also Listowel races. Not so long ago you'd head for Croker in just your GAA jersey, GAA jacket and jeans. And off to the Races in your summery finery. I wouldn't fancy trying it in these temps! Christmas Day 2023 was about 16C, ffs! 20C in 2024, anyone?

We had a nice double rainbow in Beaumont earlier this evening. It was probably the best one I've seen for myself. It was interesting in that the rainbow came before the shower, usually they occur during or after the shower.

Was at all Ireland finals where I was wearing rain coat and it was cold. Ireland is a wet maritime influenced climate

I was about to say the same. I don't remember any particularly warm all Ireland football final days.

Lovely day here in Meath, and pleasantly warm with the sunshine. Calm before the Storm

Lovely day in Galway. Got the lawn done - hopefully not many more this year. Not golfing tomorrow, looks miserable.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Not sure what you mean by "the rain is bad enough" given how dry September has been. I think you are in Kerry so looking at a usually very wet Valentia Island - 53mm so far in September, it got 189mm last September. In fact May-September has seen 407mm of rainfall this year in Valentia whereas the same period in 2023 had 718mm. That's a 43% reduction in rainfall. A look at local rivers and streams will confirm that.

Valentia did see below average temps in June and July but May/Aug/Sept are showing above average temps. May was the warmest on record (1.2C above average in Valentia). Swings and roundabouts as ever in Ireland.

My own Mace Head is showing 12.7mm of rain thus far in September. That's hard to believe for me. We got 155mm last year for September. Tomorrow will push it up but it's still a massive reduction year on year.
