Yet they'll insist they "understand the case better than most".

Let the dictatorship begin. Supposedly 100 executive orders on day 1.

Plus the Senate is rushing to pass what seems like a horrific abuse of rights, the "Laken Riley law."

“Everything will go through the roof when [Trump] takes office,” said Carol Lee Wood, who said she has made more purchases of beans, rice, powdered milk and freeze-dried fruits and vegetables. “I wish I could stockpile gasoline and avocados!”. A few said they had recently purchased hybrid cars, anticipating that Trump would end Biden’s EV tax credit. https://www.theguardian.com/business/2025/jan/11/foreign-goods-trump-tariffs

    Are they panicking a bit?

would Trump get a security clearance given his removal of top secret documents to Florida, not to mention Elon Musk who has regularly been on the phone to Putin.

If I was a CIA agent or foreign informer I’d be worried now given Trump has access to top secret information. Also you’d assume other countries like Germany would be careful with sharing information with America now which could also make America less secure

He'll get it, he's POTUS. He needs to see secure documents as part of his job. The worry you state has been true for a long time with him, even during his previous Presidency. As for the Florida case, well, that's been thrown out of court so he's not guilty of any crime, despite what is obvious to everyone watching from the sidelines. He did indeed remove the documents to Mar a Lardo, but it was legal for him to do so, as Judge Cannon took her time deliberating this issue long enough for the defendant in the case to be reelected POTUS.

We are seeing the superficial chaos of his speeches etc, but to keep a country going in any way smoothly requires a great deal of paddling under the surface, which is mostly down to the civil service. If he just keeps making waves with relatively harmless people - Canada and Greenland are not going to bite on his provocation, beyond making statements (this one is a doozy

his presidency will be a mess but hopefully not too terminal a mess. He has a lot more potential for creating chaos this time than last time as there does not seem to be a half-educated, knowledgeable person in his immediate circle. If he does sack the civil service then the place could be in total chaos.

The best case scenario for everyone in the whole is a repeat of his last “Presidency”. In other words, he gets to go to rallys, has loads of “Executive Time”, complains that people still don’t like him while others in his orbit do their damnedest to out-stupid each other to garner his temporary approval. All while the Federal agencies & departments do their best to keep the Union ticking over for the next 4 years until an actual administration returns to the White House (and by that I mean anything non-MAGA. If a “normal” GOP ticket ever exists again, it’ll still be better than Donnie)

That’s still not a great deal for the US itself, which will face yet another term repairing the nation from Trump’s indifference and fecklessness.

Indeed. This was exactly the attitude of the Brexiteers in 2016, voted for it to piss off the right kind of people. And look at the state of the U.K. now, austerity times 50. They’re even demonising the disabled to prepare the ground for significant cut backs.

Trump voters are the same: love shooting themselves in the foot and blaming the Democrats for the bullet.

This is it. The MAGA heads vote against some artifical enemy invented by Trump and his merry gang of Fascists.

They get joy and comfort from voting against something as opposed to voting in favour of anything. The irony is most of the morons who vote for Trump will be the first to feel the effects of the changes he will bring. Just look at the amount of idiots who think the affordable care act and obamacare are different things. "We like ACA but we want Obamacare gone!". You couldn't make it up.

Crikey, it’s time for the political class to smarten up and include Trump, warm to him.. if that’s possible. It’ll be less bumpy for the everyday American and us globally if Trump is being rewarded as part of the establishment than left outside in the cold throwing big wobbles alongside his insular side-kick Musk..

All DT has ever wanted is to be acknowledged and included by those he considers his peers. He is not interested in Musk.. and Trump will be after a big legacy too, no doubt.

It’s entirely possible for people to warm up to him, if he would stop being a such self-interested vile cretin who has repeatedly shown himself willing to put the nation in jeopardy for the sake of his own ego.

If he could just stop doing that, then there’s always the possibly that people can warm up to him. He should be expected at all times to behave like an adult and actually do the job he’s so hell bent to get. It’s beyond ridiculous that people lost their heads when Biden started doing gaffs, but it’s somehow entirely acceptable to coddle Donnie, and give him cookies to keep him from having temper tantrums.

The supposed Head of State for a Superpower hear folks, and we’re all supposed to be extra nice to him so he’ll behave himself.

Respect is earned, not given away to prevent a child from falling to floor in a rage while they kick their legs.

Too late for all that, he’s the next POTUS. He is what he is, expecting him to behave is laughable. You talk about it like you can change him. Respect earned, in the political houses, lol. Those days are long gone.

The destructive mayhem he could cause by feeling excluded and petulant is a serious matter. The establishment should recognise and use their influence over the course of the next four years and keep him as close as they can.

Disagree. 4 more years of sanewashing his verbal spews is bad for everyone. Resist, however it can happen. Press needs to get out of the 'suck up to Trump' business. Strikes would be welcome. Once Trump starts his 'mass incarceration/deportation' events, states should refuse to enforce and harass any externals Trump deputizes to enforce his dictates.

As for rallies, they'd make great sites for pickets and protests, not a lot of points to rallies as he's not candidate for anything.

Oh, and lots of pro-bono work once the Stormy Daniels case appeal starts rolling. Need that appeal to be defeated, whether the SCOTUS takes it up is never certain, better to remove the opportunity.

I'm sure they thought they could change (name the dictator) too.

Not yet he isn’t. There is (was) time to include him prior to the full change over mid Jan. If this was the U.K. then I’d agree with you.

He is 100% the establishment. He has money connections, power.

And that was before he entered into politics. Check out all the people he has hung out with over the years.

Whether he was liked or not is a different matter but part of the establishment he certainly is and has been for a very long time.

No he is not video shows how much the "establishment" has always rejected him

Yes, he is. He always has been. If you still disagree, can you please provide your definition of the word?

    Did he have money?

    Access to political leaders?

Was he given access to media?

Could he use his money and power to get his way ahead of others?

Yes, yes, yes, yes and a million other yeseses.

You’re referring to society, business, top of the ladder stuff.. but politically is a whole different ball game.

It’s always upset him that they look down their nose at him. He’s desperate to belong. It’s more important to him than Musk.

Ah ok. So just an extremely narrowly defined establishment.

Except of course he was good friends with the Clintons. But I guess we ignore that so that the fable of the 'man against the establishment ' can continue.

But even if you want to buy that, once 2016 happened he very much entered into the establishment.

Look at how he was given every advantage and benefit of doubt in all legal issues since 2020.

Trying to pass Trump off as an outsider fighting against the "establishment" is the biggest load of twaddle ever.

    🤣

If he does fight against the establishment it'll be for his and his buddies benefit, not the ordinary working Joe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,894 ✭✭✭TinyMuffin

of course he’s an outsider. That’s how he drained the swamp 😋

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,848 ✭✭✭✭aloyisious

Trump became part of the establishment back in 2015 when he ran for and got elected to the presidency with the blessing of the Republican party which has been approx 50% of it for decades before Trump was born. That much is fact which he wouldn't deny. There is nothing like an insider when it come to changing the course of politics, or a nation.

Do you believe then that's it's all about his ego being bruised after being refused entry to the club, or swamp, and nothing about MAGA?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,640 ✭✭✭✭Igotadose

And you know this how? He's an actor badly playing a politician, for the lulz (and the money and the power). His goal is tear it all down so only he can fix it. No surprise politicians despise him, he's despicable.

A scumbag like Trump should never be accepted or "warmed to". He's a stain on American and World history. The best we can hope for is a disorganised 4 years of ego trips, temper tantrums, and in fighting, so as to distract him from doing real irreversible damage.
