Murphy v Maguire on Eurosport now anyway, don't know what happened. Maguire really should get if won from here 11-7

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,304 ✭✭✭AllForIt

Unbelievable the BBC are showing the first session of the Ronnie/Day match instead of the final session of the Maguire/Murphy match and same story on the iPlayer as well. FFS.

    edit: found a stream phew.

Didn't last, it went back to the Ronnie match.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,541 ✭✭✭✭The Nal

Have it on the iPlayer. 2 or 3 more shots and Maguires won it.

    Edit. Over. 13-9. Finished with a 127.

Very poor from Day. Showed no ambition with the cue ball on that red. Leaving it awkward on the cushion for the green which he then missed. Ronald missed an easy enough red straight after. Very scrappy. Day has another chance, should get a few points here.

The coverage is so $h1t€ on BBC(as ever). Finished coverage until 2:35pm. While BBC4 is sitting there doing nothing whatsoever.

They have the iPlayer in the UK. As easy as changing channels. They show every second of every match for 2 weeks.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,304 ✭✭✭AllForIt

They would say anyone is the UK can watch every match via the iPlayer but they still gave top billing to the Ronnie match over the conclusion of another match which is just insane.

BBC coverage not great this morning.

Day isn't punishing Ronnie's mistakes yet, he'll need to sort that out this evening or he can forget about it. Ronnie nowhere near his best today, but it should still be enough unless Day improves, he was slicing across balls there and hitting them far too hard.

Yeah big chances missed by Day. A few blacks off the spot. Driving Hendry crazy. Justifiably.

  • Registered Users Posts: 16,341 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Not on TV they don't, and it's only from the semi-finals on that they do it properly. And even then I'm sure they've cut coverage short. Not everyone in the UK would have access to the iPlayer. And this is the WORLD Snooker Championship, there's people watching on satellite, on TV packages with BBC around the world that would like to watch it. And as I said why can't they show it on BBC4 when its off air for most of the day?

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,314 ✭✭✭✭ArmaniJeanss

As i said to you last year when you made this point (and you clearly ignored it), BBC4 isn't empty during the day as it transmits CBeebies on the same transponder/frequency/satellite space . A time-share as it where.

Our tv providers (Sky/Virgin etc) have to split the signal into two different channel numbers to prevent the obvious problems that would arise if Bob The Builder was immediately followed by Survivors of Auschwitz, but from a BBC technical pov it's the same channel.

So other than cancelling CBeebie programming there's no way to utilize BBC4 for snooker during the day.

There are separate TV deals for all territories.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,541 ✭✭✭✭The Nal

Because it costs a lot of money that they don't have or couldnt justify. Especially in the early rounds. The Beeb have license freezes in place by the government and have had for about 15 years.

BBC 4 shares the same broadcast frequency with CBeebies and CBBC which ends in the late afternoon so thats when BBC4 can start broadcasting. To broadcast BBC 4 during the day aswell they would need to pay for space on satellites and the like for an extra channel. Huge money. Which theyre not going to do so a couple of thousand people can watch Robert Milkins.

As I've said, get access to the iPlayer and you wont miss a pot.

Was lost yesterday as lost BBC iPlayer on my LG TV which I watch with Getflix DNS luckily they fixed it and can watch both tables.

Delighted Stephen Maguire finished off Murphy only downside have to listen to him and look at him more on the BBC coverage now he is out.

Lisowski throws away 8 points trying to come off two cushions when he could hit the red directly all along, typical Lisowski carelessness. Such a frustrating player to watch.

And he misses the green off its spot with his right hand, so poor.

what is going on with Mark Allen. He’s slowly morphed into a poor man’s Selby.

If Higgins hits some form here he’ll run through Allen. That’s a big IF though.

Second session of Lisowski Bingham much more of a mess.

Allen v Higgins tough match play all the way

    Important frame for Bingham.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,873 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Higgins will be delighted with that two frame lead. Bit of luck, his own good play and a bad or maybe unlucky swerve from Allen all contributing…

Bit of a topic drift….. Does anyone know the story behind the gentleman to the right of the players seats ? I can find nothing googling… but he’s almost always dressed the same, grey sweater, mustard polo with collars over the sweater… never a flicker of emotion from him be it a great pot, easy chance missed or whatever…maybe it’s a mobility issue hence the same location but always the same or similar attire…..

always same seat, always the same clothing….always the same unemotional demeanour…. Just curious.

Lisowski back to 7-7, seems to be more free flowing since the interval.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,459 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

Brian Wright is about the Crucible this year as I met him, but keeping a bit of a lower profile since his Coventry City robbed in the FA cup semi last weekend.

No idea who that younger guy is above.

THere was an old boy who say in the middle of the ball end for Neil Robertson's matches with an Australian flag tie. Haven't seen him for this year. 😕

Just as I say that we get the scrappiest frame of the match, 8-7 Bingham.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,459 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

I think he has passed away now

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 11,082 Mod ✭✭✭✭Say Your Number

Real missed opportunity for Day, Should be 6-5, Ronnie will do enough from here.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,459 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

Yeah, how many more chances will Day get in this match now. He could have no excuses he didn't get a fair shot at O'Sullivan here

Wasted another great chance there, should be 6-6.
