Wednesday next week is when that breakdown starts. 5 days till then. I think Saturday and Sunday might be the best ones which isn't bad as it's when most of us are off. Sunday could be 17c or 18c and that will probably be the peak of this spell.

That will probably be it for warm weather in April as we turn to May to find chinks of sunlight.

Not to get too negative with this very welcome settled period but ECM wants to bring us back with a bang next weekend. I thought it was an outlier at first with yesterday's 00z run but it's showing very wet for South and East next weekend. This is the accumulated precipitation chart from now to Sunday night but between now and Friday there's practically no rain forecast.

However the GFS is much less pessimistic. Still showing rain mind, but an awful lot less.

It's not just the rainfall totals they're differing on however, the ECM has a low pressure system heading our way from Greenland that pushes the high away to our West and sits in the Bay of Biscay for the weekend, and that's what brings all the rain. The GFS has the low coming from Iceland and it's not nearly as deep and moves through much more quickly.

It will be blustery for various places too with these systems, nowhere near storm level mind but 70-80km/h would be likely in affected areas.

Hopefully as the week progresses we'll see both outcomes change a bit in our favour.

Bit of a spread in the rainfall amounts but the ECM12Z showing a lot less rain than earlier projected. Showing less warm temperatures, no standout windy conditions, LP systems don't look that deep and HP nearby at the end of the run maybe helping to block out any heavy rains, for now anyway. Will see if this outlook holds.

How are we looking for next weekend 4-5th May? From my limited knowledge I am seeing conflicting charts. ECM is showing a low swinging in for the weekend while BBC and yr.no are a lot more positive

At the moment next weekend is looking rather cool and showery or rain at times. Temperatures around 10 to 13C. Rainfall does not look excessive, certainly not the deluge pattern we had up until very recently. However no signs of warmth yet on the models with things staying average or slightly below normal at times.

Overall the first week of May including next weekend look on the unsettled side with rain or showers most days.

May looks like a fairly swingy month on last guidance. Looks like cool unsettled spells will be mixed with some drier weather at times. Temperatures look pleasant during the dry spells but quite cool besides. Currently nothing very warm on the charts. Maybe 20c during some of the warmer days.

Not much going on the latest charts…might get very warm thursday onwards for a few days..might go back to the weather we had after that..very warm in the sun but cool enough if cloudy..chance colder northerlies could return too

January 2024 was below average temperature almost everywhere and drier than average almost everywhere too! Don't believe this? Met Eireann says so: https://cli.fusio.net/cli/bulletin/data/2024/01/sum_012024.pdf

I know Jan came in a bit below average. Winter as a whole was crap. The middle 2 weeks of Jan were the best of the winter for sure. What about the other 10 weeks? That's right crap!!! At least imby. I didn't see a flake of snow all winter and little frost. I wasn't expecting the winter to be good anyway. As soon as an El Niño was brewing earlier in the yr I knew that was a bad sign.

I hear ya, but the whole winter wasn't a total write-off, it came close to being one though.

Very similar for me too, not a flake of snow all winter and very little frost. Spring isn't much better either outside of last weekend which was lovely.

La Niña is developing now. Next winter will be a La Niña one. Hopefully a better winter then last.

GFS Warm in the NW on Friday

Temperatures increase for most on Saturday

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,193 ✭✭✭emo72

What does that mean? Good as in warm mild? Or good as in freezing chaotic weather?

What's it looking like for Saturday? Our babies christening is Saturday, so hoping for a dry day at least 🤞

Next weekend is not locked in right now. Could be sunny and warm but also could be average with a wet weekend, all to play for.

GFS 6z has a dartboard low into south-west UK which keeps us rather cloudy and showery and not much in the way of warm weather. We will need a few more days to see what's in store for next weekend. Hopefully this 6z is a bit of an outlier for next weekend.

Overall the GFS shows a warming trend after the rather chilly second half of April compared to the first half which was very mild. The trend is to stay unsettled but not overly so and perhaps signs of a drying trend as we push towards the middle of May.

This app is quite handy for seeing the weather some days out. Looks like it will be pretty dry in Sligo after Tuesday. Was sunny all day yesterday and sunny again today. Showers in the afternoon though.

Very cold air moving down towards Spain into early May…and straight away we start to get unusual weather with heat coming in from the north east…expect waves of heat to come north like last time into the second week of May…charts are going to change alot for the second week of May…

But which kind of weather will we end up with…less chance of our usual weather anyway..anytime Spain gets our usual cold and wet weather we end up getting good weather more often than not…so hopefully Spain and the rest of europe get bad weather because its the only time we get good weather🤣

12z has followed the 6z. BH weekend will be a washout if it's correct.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,081 ✭✭✭irelandspurs

Thanks, dry is all we need so fingers crossed we get dry weather in Meath for Saturday.

Any update to the charts, any warmth, sun….anything remotely summer like

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,255 ✭✭✭PokeHerKing

Not really, this week and BH weekend looks wet.

A weak HP builds after the BH bringing some dry weather for a few days but another LP appears for the weekend.

It's only start of May though so summer weather is still a bit fanciful.

is even Spring weather a bit fanciful?
