Maybe this warrants a new thread if it’s own, maybe not.

love to hear opinions on forthcoming referendums.

I plan to vote yes for the woman’s place in the home.

But a firm NO on the second. Far as I can see were being asked to include “durable relationship” in the constitution for no good reason and with no explanation of what that might cover. I think there’s implications for family farms, if a years long relationship breaks up before marriage would we see claims for half a farm ??

I’m a firm no on both. You should listen to Michael McDowell.- I wasn’t his biggest fan when he was tainiste but you could never say he didn’t understand law.

No means no change- let them come back with proper specific wording if they want to change any of the constitution.

The vagueness is a worry, I’m not anti governments or a conspiracy nut.

But saying vote a change in and trust us doesn’t wash well.

Firmly in agreement with you, NO on both. Seems like government parties pandering to the apparent mainstream thinking pre next election.

Whatever about the family one, some obviously wont agree with that, but what is the worry about voting no in the Care amendment?

I found that video, he speaks very well on the subject, definitely a no vote.

What’s the rush to remove mother from the constitution- why not add parent- instead they wrote family member- my first cousin is a family member. So when applying for citizenship- I could argue I technically don’t need to be a child’s legal guardian.

they also want to change marriage to durable relations-

for me- repealing the 8th without specific wording also opened up the potential for corruption- they are already talking about changing criteria- and some who voted to repeal it may not be happy with the new criteria .

if the referendum was about care in the home… let them reference it specifically and not have open ended comments.

The problem is you’ll be called a far right for it wanting the constitution changed without very specific text.

i am not anti emigration- I am married to an Australian 10 years - I would probably be single still without a foreigner

I have to apply for a visa when visiting. I have no problem with any of the checks or paperwork.

no does not mean no forever- it means reword it correctly and come back to us.

"i am not anti emigration- I am married to an Australian 10 years"

Sorry Kollegeknight, but I had to laugh at that.

I knew it would get a reaction when writing it😂

I haven’t been paying attention to the few mentions in the media but what are the 2 referendums about?

Or what parties and are for and against what? I find you can get a sense of what’s what in such discussions if you see what groups are for YES and who’s for NO

I do t like how it is being rushed. Only a month before voting day and absolutely no information supplied or time for debate . What’s all the rush.

I have t actually read the proposal in full or in detail yet and I would be interested in politics and current affairs.

Our referendum booklet arrived yesterday. It just confirms that the constitution doesn’t say “a woman’s place is in the home”.

just reassures me to vote No & No

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,744 ✭✭✭893bet

    No and No.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,938 ✭✭✭dzer2

Not here for them but would be No&No

  • Registered Users Posts: 73 ✭✭QA1

No and no here too we’re are too quite a nation

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,936 ✭✭✭I says

No to both. Reasons I’m voting no to both are O Gorman threatening the ngos he’d pull funding for them if they don’t campaign for a yes vote. McDowell was refused the minutes of an inter department meeting regarding the legal ramifications of a yes vote under the freedom of information act. It’s a Trojan horse as far as I can make out.

Two no votes from me also. The posts above have stated why. Please everyone watch this video before voting. as said before, I wouldn’t have been a fan of McDowell but now that he is independent he doesn’t need to tow the party line like the rest of the sheep. He has brought up some very valid concerns. ‘Durable relationship’ could be open to abuse in inheritance, immigration etc. will have legal ramifications for years to come.

Also the constitution does not state that ‘a woman’s place is in the home’, as confirmed by Supreme Court Judge Marie Baker. Catherine Martin has stood up twice now and blatantly lied about this.

The Check the Register system is collapsing under the weight of the public posting amendments to the Electoral Register. Unlikely that the amendments will be keyed in time for the vote . Nobody has thought any of this through.

No and No from me too . Both completely unnecessary .

This Irish Times podcast between Justine McCarthy and Michael McDowell is a very civilised debate.

It even mentions 'trouples' and implications for the environment at the very end.

Anything that Leo and that rat O Gormon are advocating I would treat with caution. I wouldn't trust either of them half as far as I'd throw them. No and No here and everyone in our house.

  • Registered Users Posts: 862 ✭✭✭dmakc

No and no, because I don't trust this government at all

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,642 ✭✭✭Bobtheman

Durable relationships is a bullshit idea. Because of the marriage referendum now two heterosexuals can marry. Men. Women

It will be used to milk the nation dry. I can see the welfare bill increasing

Neither referendum was needed. We have suicidal kids who can't see a psychiatrist but we can afford this ****?

  • Registered Users Posts: 285 ✭✭smallbeef

    No and No.

I hope the No's come out and vote on this one.

Such a waste of tax payers money.

Wasn’t going to go vote when I heard of this referendum last yr but it’s a no for me and will go vote NO.the idea of this government being trusted and they calling us all far right for questioning them on open doors to allow Mohammad and his 10 wives and 100 kids free reign to come here is enough for me to motivate me to go out and vote.

just as a postscript to the above just watch on Twitter the 3 amigos walk out to a ligimit question from Ben scallion of gript on the misinformation from the minister for rte .they don’t even hide their contempt for the country anymore.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,103 ✭✭✭Kalimah

It's a no to both from all of us in my house. I was never a fan of Michael McDowell but I'm with him on his one.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,249 ✭✭✭✭Furze99

Two Nos here - who'd buy a pig in a poke.

Same here when the likes of those two are pushing a yes vote as hard as they are you would have to question their motives. I hope that people actually come out and vote cos a low turnout could see a yes vote majority. I have my mind made up for two no votes this past few weeks.
