PaddyPower marketing and publicity is so boring and try-hard these days. Real whack of paddywhackery off it as well. Ads of Ruby Walsh gurning and Crouch jumping over his couch is putting me off the idea of watching it tbh.

And Webster's in. What a last leg 140/140/140/81 in 3 against the darts (99/180/180/10)

Can't say they're the greatest draws for the Irish lads. Should get past first round games but can't see them winning their seeded ones

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,500 ✭✭✭TheChrisD

Looking at the Tour Card race, I think Radek has the best chance since he's only facing the Finn Kantele, and Barney who is often out of sorts.

Lennon might scrape in against Bates — as I suspect Doets will lose to Buntz — but definitely will get bodied by Clayton.

Hempel is an unknown. Slevin and Dimi are both unpredictable matchups, at least depending on what for Dimi brings in.

Scutt needs to win round 2... and not a hope against the Iceman.

    Tricky draw for Smith

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,706 ✭✭✭Dillonb3

Peter Wright has a dodgy draw against potentially Jim Williams

Did any champion ever go undefeated for the whole championship ?

It would be such an impressive feat

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,498 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

I dont get the question. Every champion goes undefeated in it, by definition.

Unless you mean defending champion. If so, Phil Taylor (many times), Jackpot and Gary Anderson have all done so.

In fact Taylor went undefeated from 1995 until the 2003 championship

  • Registered Users Posts: 37,773 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

Sorry meant to make myself clearer

Did anyone ever go on to win every single leg they played

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,295 ✭✭✭✭ArmaniJeanss

That's just impossible over 6 matches with alternate throw - eventually the losing player will go out in 12 darts on his own throw which can only be beaten by a 9 darter.

It's happened in individual games especially in earlier rounds when it just means 9 legs in a row. But Taylor came close to perfection against Peter Manley in both their finals with the loser only winning 3 or 4 legs from what I remember, Taylor obviously winning 21.

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,498 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Winning every set while extremely unlikely just might be possible. But yeah every leg is an impossibility

Always felt it unfair for one first round winner to be asked to play a second round the same evening. No one else is asked to do that

Big afternoon for the Irish on Wed Dec 20th

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,295 ✭✭✭✭ArmaniJeanss

Only alternative would be to have the first night compromising of only 4 first round games. Would be fine by me as there is usually enough decent names outside the Top 32 to build the session around.

But it would also mean that the defending champion couldn't play in the first session, which has kinda become a thing.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Smith go out on night 1

Big also in terms of the Tour Cards. Depending on how other matches go to that point, Steve and Radek will likely know exactly how far they need to go in the tournament to keep their cards.

Dirk VD is plagued by injuries and I fancy him to lose his first match.

    Must check the odds
