Always felt it unfair for one first round winner to be asked to play a second round the same evening. No one else is asked to do that

Big afternoon for the Irish on Wed Dec 20th

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,764 ✭✭✭✭ArmaniJeanss

Only alternative would be to have the first night compromising of only 4 first round games. Would be fine by me as there is usually enough decent names outside the Top 32 to build the session around.

But it would also mean that the defending champion couldn't play in the first session, which has kinda become a thing.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Smith go out on night 1

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,816 ✭✭✭TheChrisD

Big also in terms of the Tour Cards. Depending on how other matches go to that point, Steve and Radek will likely know exactly how far they need to go in the tournament to keep their cards.

And such a beautiful throwing action.

    Great tan too…😆

Dirk VD is plagued by injuries and I fancy him to lose his first match.

    Must check the odds

In news that should surprise absolutely no one, PP will not change the colour of the dartboard for the Worlds

A pretty decent charity initiative tbf

Fair play to them. Over 900 maximums last year so they could be donating close to a million. I know it's only pocket change for them but it's a great cause.

PP have an offer where if you back the winner of the tournament (e/w 5e min bet) you’ll get a 2e free bet for every 180 they throw in their first match.

Probably need to be some way tactical as the big guns often don’t throw many 180s in their first games as they can steamroll their opponent.

Ideally pick a player who might be in a 3-2 game.

Flip side is if a player is struggling to win 3-2, they’re unlikely to come close to win the tournament.

Doets pretty much secured his tour card for next year with that win

Rusty John Rodriguez what an awesome and stupid name

I drank the Buntz kool-aid. I thought he would get out of the first round.

He looked like he was in his own head.

Whitlock a shadow of his former self

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,154 ✭✭✭Rented Mule

    Good enough to get through.

Gary Anderson is going to eat him alive in the next round.

Fair play to Doets, not allowing Smith have it all his own way

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,007 ✭✭✭✭paulie21

Smith under fierce pressure here despite playing well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,841 ✭✭✭✭retalivity

That 142 out was clutch from Smith

    Cracking match in fairness

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,898 ✭✭✭Dillonb3

    Evans Sosing match really dull

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,816 ✭✭✭TheChrisD

Add Kciuk and van Dongen to card losers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,898 ✭✭✭Dillonb3

I think Van Dongen was commuting over from the States for the pro tour events. Hard to build up any form with all that travelling

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,822 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Barry off to a slow start, certainly not one for the purists here (and no, I'd be as far away from that myself)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,623 ✭✭✭Newtown90

Very hard to play this lad Rivera with his pace of play... Must be very annoying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,822 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

    Lovely checkout for the set!

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 12,370 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kingp35

Tough going for Barry alright. I don't think it's gamesmanship from Rivera, it's just how he plays. Barry can get no rhythm gong though so he'd just want to get through this match and not really care about his average.

I think Barry’s progress has stalled, in fact he’s regressed as far as I can see over the last 12 months.

For me the way his darts land is a liability

    TbL

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,731 ✭✭✭MileHighGuy

Barry was let off the hook in the 2nd, but I assume will easily kick on to win now.

Not an impressive showing though (stating the obvious, I know)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,014 ✭✭✭Sultan of Bling

Hard to see the winner of this troubling MVG in the next round.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,731 ✭✭✭MileHighGuy

Just regarding Rivera's pace, I'm used to seeing players slow in the throw, but so slow to get on the oche and fetch the darts..... I don't recall anyone dallying so much. I see Russ Bray has looked over his shoulder a couple of times wondering where he is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,731 ✭✭✭MileHighGuy

Has Barry just conceded this set to get the darts in the next? He's second best by a long way here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,731 ✭✭✭MileHighGuy

.... He had the darts in this set.... Wow

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 12,370 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kingp35

In fairness, Rivera could be winning this if his doubles were better. This is far from over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,731 ✭✭✭MileHighGuy

Barry really does miss a lot of doubles, and by some margin.... Rarely on the wire.

If he gets through I couldn't even see him winning a leg against mvg.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,731 ✭✭✭MileHighGuy

Made a meal of it, but a nice checkout to win. Will be great to see him play MVG.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,898 ✭✭✭Dillonb3

Good win in the end for Barry. The faster pace against MVG will suit him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,604 ✭✭✭shockframe

That's right up there with the least enjoyable games in the history of Ally Pally.
