Congrats on passing the interview. It sounds like PAS are checking your eligibility (degree) rather than calling you for clearance. It's typically a 3 to 4 week time lag between the two steps from my experience.

Hi all, congrats to everyone who made it through assessments and interviews! I hope it's okay to ask here instead of opening a new thread. I haven't been doing great in the situational judgement tests and was wondering if anyone has experience with preparation courses for this? I know all the "official" prep materials and prep tests but they didn't do much for me for the actual test. Does anyone know any commercial course/workshop options that were useful? Thanks so much!

@Emms123 Not a clue myself - I am an existing civil servant so didn’t have to put Garda vetting through etc so not sure what is going on, sorry!

Anybody get the message about an expression of interest in An Garda Síochána? Just wondering how that would work as I have heard that civilians in AGS are soon to be public servants and civil service and union status will be revoked?

Does anyone know if they are still calling people for the initial interview and, if so, where have they got to on OOM?

Yeah, they're still working their way down the list for the initial interview. @skidmarkoner said they were on about 160 recently, but you can give them a call to see. If you do give a ring, it'd be helpful if you posted an update on here in case others are waiting too.

Thank you!!! I ended up getting an email requesting to send my actual clearance docs, last week. In your experience how low does the next step take? Is the next step a job offer? Sorry I don't know much about the process.

  • Registered Users Posts: 78 ✭✭countyireland12345

Almost. The next step is completing clearance - that will depend on how fast your referees get back, garda clearance takes about a week after you complete the online form. When that is all done, you will be assigned a department by PAS and then its up to that department's HR and you to agree a start date. For me, my start date was exaclty three months after my interview date - a month to be called for clearance, 2/3 weeks of clearance, and just over a month then til I started (I gave about 5/6 weeks notice to my then current employer). But that was during the summer which probably slowed things down a bit too.

Check your messages folks ! I received an email this morning asking me to confirm if I am still interested in AO competition. I am in the 160’s.

I don't mean to in any way diminish what you say you've gone through, but you've posted your story easily 50+ times at this point. Literally every comment of yours on the site relates to it. I genuinely think you should look into talking to a counsellor because the impact this situation seems to have had on you comes across as being quite severe.

Would ignore this. The poster keeps posting these types of negative posts into AO comp threads. Clearly they experienced some issues but by no means are they unique to the DoF or civil service and could happen just as easily in the private sector.

Yikes: I didn't get any message (my OOM is 500+).

Hi everyone, please let me know if this is the wrong place to ask but what is the timeline for receiving results from the online tests? Applied for the B&F AO comp and completed the online tests over the weekend, instructions just said results would be published online but no timeline was given. Thank you!

When I did it it was a month or so. That role was more specialised though so might be sooner

Up to OOM 161 called by 6/3/24. I’m in the 300s so not holding my breath

  • Registered Users Posts: 334 ✭✭skidmarkoner

Ye there seems to be a massive slow down on recruitment across the board I wonder whats up

  • Registered Users Posts: 8 adunkey

i contacted them in Jan and last week and they are still on 161. I’m over 1,000 on the list😞

Any idea when this panel ends?

Unfortunately the AO is very unlikely to reach the 1000s - in previous years they have gone up to the 500s.

Hi folks, any idea on OOM ? It’s so slow this year. No news of results from test in AO specialist comp also.

  • Registered Users Posts: 35 Grateful4

Hi I have been called forward for interview week of 8-12th April (OOM 160’s)

They look for the presentation to be submitted in advance -can anyone clarify is this slides only or slides plus my speaking notes (basically a copy of everything I plan to say on the day! ) ?

Very nervous, particularly about the presentation , trying to keep it simple and logical but don’t want any big gaps! Any tips appreciated.

    Thank you

It's just your slides no need to provide notes. The presentation is fine, they don't expect it to be all encompassing as such. They may question you on your sources, where you got your info and why those particular sources, your objectivity in your conclusions, alternative approaches etc. Obviously the questions depend on your chosen topic, but this was their approach when I did the presentation.

@MFPM This is really helpful, many thanks 🙏

Relieved to hear you haven’t heard anything on test results of the specialist comp yet as well, I was beginning to worry that it was just me! Fingers crossed we hear something before Friday.

Still haven’t got results of tests that were completed the weekend of the 2nd of March so over 4 weeks ago now . Does anyone know if theres any point in reaching out to PAS on this?

    Hi all,

Has anyone recently been contacted for clearance? Following successful placement after being interviewed.

Just looking for an idea on where they are in regards to the OOM hiring.
    I placed 10-20 in batch 2 - so I presume about 70-80 overall.

    Thanks

Can someone advise please - how many people on the interview board? Is it 3 who conduct the interview , plus one person from PAS?

Yes, you should have got their names and roles in advance of the interview.
