Is he the guy that’s an absolute scumbag? How the hell could KK be happy having him on their books??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7 KKCamóg

Had actually seen him at a couple of championship games and was trying to make a connection, there it is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,135 ✭✭✭✭callaway92

That’s actually vile knowing that now. He’ll be getting €200+ a session

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7 KKCamóg

Is there a set fee for Managers/Coaches? I've heard similar figures for the lads doing S&C sessions with development squads, the likes of 15s and 16s doing a couple of nights a week during the Winter.

No set fee, but have been with Adult and Minor Intercounty Camogie teams and haven’t seen a Head Coach get less than €200 per session for Adults in about 5 years.

Granted it’s a serious commitment of doing it properly, but still.

Wow, cant link what their previous relationship would be other than the Ballyhale job, was Meagher with Pat Hoban orginally?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7 KKCamóg

Granted I'm being naive but does this get accounted for officially.

Are they handing over envelopes with €200 every session?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,213 ✭✭✭✭greenspurs

    Worked together in Ballyhale.

Cant see any other link - i doubt the three of them are involved with KK camogie?

But then again, if KK Camogie actually informed people , then everyone would know…. 🙄

Probably giving cash over monthly or bi-monthly. He obviously should be declaring that income but probably 95% of coaches don’t. That’s not the County Boards’ issue though. I assume he wouldn’t be getting untaxed expenses like travel etc if he’s getting the fee amounts per session.

Heard theres a not so pleasant back story associated with the Loreto teams currently, might just be rumours but no smoke without fire etc.

Caveat on Hearsay etc. supposedly a big issue over not supplying female mentor/liaison with teams over an extended period of time.

The Tipp v Kilkenny league game is on Youtube live now. It started late.

Its half time with Tipp on top 0-8 to 0-4. No real goal chances yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,802 ✭✭✭The White Feather

Tipp win in the end 0-16 to 1-8

Kilkenny look to be short scoring forwards with the few retirements. I think they said the captain was out injured too so they need to look stronger going forward. Tipp were good value for their win. Some very good interplay and some very well taken points.

I know there was motions defeated at congress lately but what has the Camogie Association got to lose by allowing a choice of what players wear?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,912 ✭✭✭Jack Daw

The Skort/Shorts controversy is pathetic from the camogie association.

About 80% of the players want to wear shorts, that should have been the end of the debate and a motion should have been passed by their congress reflecting what the players want and they could choose to wear shorts if they wanted during a game, and I'm not one of these people who thinks that doing what the players want is generally the correct thing however in this instance nobody is being impacted by the banning of wearing shorts other than the players themselves, it's not a decision that has any other implications for the sport.

Although the only somewhat good thing about this is when the usual idiots start throwing around sexism and misogyny as a reason for this nonsense it can be pointed out fairly quickly that it's a female led organisation and nothing to do with men.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,845 ✭✭✭✭Water John

It hasn't anything to do with the issue, but the President of the Organisation is a man.

Yes, he broke through the glass ceiling to shatter the Matriarchy!

Women can be misogynistic and sexist against women.

So I read there is 150 voting delegates, is there breakdown who voted no or at least who stated they voted yes or no?

Must the decision be made by a vote?, must it be delayed till 2027 to vote on such motions again?

Alan Kelly say he is going to call in the CA to deal with once and for all https://x.com/rtenews/status/1919063154446745862 which is a terrible idea.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,787 ✭✭✭Uncle Pierre

Yes, but he only formally took up the role at the same 2024 Congress as where delegates voted against allowing players to wear shorts. Unless he's a very quickly operator indeed, with absolute mountains of influence, he can hardly be accused of using his Presidency to sway the issue!

I have a bit of a contra view on this - the skorts were decided on in a (democratic!!) vote at the Camogie Association.

The players dont like that. But to my mind a vote is a vote and if your side loses the vote then move on.

Alan Kelly was voted into power by the same principals.

TBH, I do think the Camogie Association should have seen this coming and to some extent brought in on themselves; but I still think a vote is a vote, now move on.

The bigger issue I have though is the band wagoning - all the stuff on social media - girls dropping out of sport, women empowerment…

Where are all these people when it comes to going down and volunteering at the local camogie club.

When I watch my daughters train at Camogie, its 90% men coaching them. Where are all these outraged women when it comes to putting out the cones on a wet november evening.

The game in hand - Dublin vs Kilkenny - where were all these outraged women when it comes to going to spectate at the game; barely 200 fans there.

The Camogie Association are volunteering, are giving up huge amounts of time, to progress this sport and now every bandwagoner who has done little or nothing themselves to progress the sport feels they can go online and vilify them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,787 ✭✭✭Uncle Pierre

I'm inclined to agree with you. A vote was taken, and a decision was made. Move on.

If you don't like the decision, do what you can to ensure a different decision is made the next time there's to be a vote, but don't throw the toys out of the pram in the meantime.

What I don't understand is that the vote was taken more than 12 months ago. Why did players not take a stand against it last year? What's changed now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,778 ✭✭✭Tombo2001

Maybe - I suppose they can protest whenever they like.

I definitely do think they should get rid of them, dont get me wrong.

But I think there is a huge amount of hypocrisy.

For me, by far the biggest issue in womens sport is that women dont care about womens sport.

Whenever there is an opportunity to talk about inequality, they are all over it.

But when it comes to getting up and actually coaching a team, going to watch a game….. nah, I've something else on that day.

Week in week out, womens league of Ireland teams or intercounty LGFA / Camogie teams play in front of a crowd of less than a hundred people. Women dont care about it.

And this is never ever ever discussed. Annoys me no end.

And to compound it; the people who do care about enough to become volunteers with the Camogie Association are hung out to dry in this way.

Not camogie but I coach underage lgfa and we can’t get mothers/guardians to join the coaching team bar 1.

Not even coach them but just to be around and get vetted even just do the toilet run or any other none coaching task. My other half she’s coaching other team so I’ll let her have a pass but times she’s helped out when we’ve stuck. Once had call off training due to no female around to try and make a point but just falls on deaf ears

    Exactly this...

About 200 at it, the National Anthem was 'played' but you had to stop breathing so you could hear it.

Side note - played at a club ground again by the Dublin Co board to try knock KK out of their stride ( smaller pitch , and they had a Kilkenny Gaa (hurling crest) flag flying....

At least with the Skort issue , it takes away from the issue of the ref yellow carding players for wearing jewellery.....

Why do you think that is? I have zero clue about GAA/football/Camogie as its not my sport but in athletics at least from my experience at meets there is a good few women volunteering and spectating aswell.

Yeah - its a good question, and I'd say at its most simple athletics has always been mixed at underage - not competively, but boys and girls train together and also athletics has a long history of girls participating underage whereas that is not the case with GAA. So people who were in running clubs themselves are more likely to coach.

However- regarding as a spectator sport - nobody really goes to watch athletics in Ireland anyway so its a moot point (and I've been in a running club myself, not trying to score points, I know the odd time for Morton Games or whatever….but really it doesnt happen).

For that matter though, the running club I was in the womens team has always been coached by men.
