"Someone could have put a notice up somewhere".

If this is indeed a Local Authority doing work on a Local Authority park, you'll probably find that the Local Authority did indeed put up advance notice of it. Check their website and social media channels. If you're "down the country", there's every chance there was a notice in the Local Authority notices in the classifieds section of the local newspaper too.

And if in your view, I'm being "touchy" for pointing that out, then so be it.

Bloody nonsense that a “special congress” is needed to make a decision like this. It’s a glaring example of how an excess of democracy in a body like the Camogie Association, as well as the GAA, prevents them from functioning adequately.

Every sporting organisation is the same, a group of elected officialswrite the rules/laws of the game. Some organisations are more liberal mind…

I'm guessing you may be another who doesn't fully understand or appreciate the situation here.

Rightly or wrongly, the current obligation to wear skorts is part of the rules of the game. And the rules can only be changed at a Congress, where every county has a voice, with that voice supposed to represent the views of the clubs and players in that county.

Otherwise you'd have a situation where a small committee could change any playing rule they wanted, on any whim they might have.

I'd agree with you that rules concerning how a game is played should be subject to a greater level of scrutiny, but for this particular issue, a congress, special or whatever, shouldn't be needed.

But again, the rules can only be changed at a Congress, and stipulations on the playing uniform form part of the rules.

You could remove it from the rules and put it into Codes instead (similar to what the GAA have to govern certain matters), but then you'd be back to a situation where a small committee could change it without giving others a voice. So if you have four or five traditionalists on there who insist that camogie players should wear skorts, no matter what anybody else thinks, then either the rule never gets changed at all, or else it's changed back to "skorts only" at the first opportunity.

Rules regarding changing rules are there for a reason. Otherwise things would just be changed on a whim for god knows why. Yes the rule is wrong however it must be changed through the correct channels.

Just because something is special/common sense doesn't make it changable through special channels.

This incident is only being fixed due to public pressure as its just a load of "oh women being told what to wear in this day and age" comments. Most people "caring" now have never been to a camogie game and never will be.

I myself have never been to one and have never done any volunteering with the GAA/Camogie. Only interested due to the skorts incident as I used to play 10 years ago or so.

Has anyone found a Camogie Association delegate who publically admitted voting to insist on mandatory skort wearing?

Ah found a description of the conference motion https://x.com/Official_Shauna/status/1919363947020292205

Stupid decision, players should show up and play a match at the originally scheduled time in shorts and make the association look even more ridiculous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,607 ✭✭✭forumdedum

How long has this been going on? I'm wondering what is the sudden urgency to change outfit?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 675 ✭✭✭C4000

An unbelievable decision from the association. Common sense completely out the window. Absolutely pathetic behaviour.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,071 ✭✭✭Fann Linn

And they paid The Communication Clinic to make the statement. Talk about getting the priorities all wrong.

Absolutely pathetic decision, hope both counties now stand their ground. Ridiculous stuff, like something from Fr Ted.

Fair play to those ladies, I think they should still show up, wear shorts and play a short exhibition game, would make the whole thing look even more absurd.

    So much for solidarity...

Dublin and Offaly minor teams warmed up in shorts , but then went in and changed into skorts to play their game in Dublin....

Hard to expect minors to get fully involved imo. They went as far as they were comfortable with and fair play to them. Proper protest should be left to the seniors

Sounds to me like the association/congress whatever it's called is taking over from where the priests left off. WRT women anyway.

Everyone should be involved. No players = no games. Humiliate and bully the association into changing the rule. All this careful protest nonsense should be thrown out the window.

Use nuclear option first - all players minor and senior collectively don't play.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,215 ✭✭✭✭greenspurs

They should have shown solidarity with the cork and Waterford panels...

With all the videos going around from Dublin senior players and posts from Dublin clubs about how scandalous this skorts rule is , it looks a bit stupid for a Dublin team to then back down and wear skorts to play a match !!!

There minors. Kids. What do you expect them to do?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,215 ✭✭✭✭greenspurs

Their management obviously though their game was more important than the cause .... 🤷

It's a bit of a silly hill to die on. Loads of sports have uniforms. I played karate for years and years in a gi. A heavy cotton sweat trap, don't talk to me about comfort!

Was the same uncomfortable gi used for both men and women?

So, not the same as Camogie, that's the point. Should be the same option for men and women.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 803 ✭✭✭LeoD

Men in skorts? 🤨 What a mess this has turned into and the players leading the protest must share the blame. There are probably players who have no problem with skorts but they missed out on a Munster final over those that want a rule change. If this was such an important issue surely camogie players in clubs across the country would have strongly lobbied their club reps before congress so that the vote would be carried? You'd think it would have been easy enough to make the argument at club level first where people have built strong personal relationships and would be more understanding and empathetic?

On the Indo daily Podcast last Saturday, a player said they have lobbied the delegates but to no avail.

She also went on to say that she can't find out who voted for or against.
