That batting collapse has put this game firmly in India's hands, they're going OK and should win easily from here 116/2 34 overs remaining.

12 games in now and pretty much all one sided wins.

Pakistan v Sri Lanka was probably the only close-ish game but Pakistan were always in control of that chase.

Afghanistan giving England the run around. Great powerplay of 79-0. Pitch looks a belter so will need a significant total to be in the game.

Just switched on, wasn't expecting this. Afghanistan scoring at just under 8 an over. Gurbaz hit 50 off 33. Long way to go though.

England have really reeled AFG in, 203/6 12 overs remaining. They need to get as close to 300 to be competitive but it seems unlikely.

Does another player have to die for batsmen to wear the neck protector. Mark Wood is the fastest bowler in the world and an Afghanistan player ducked into one and was hit on the shoulder/neck area.

    Afghanistan 274 / 7 (47.4)

    hehheh

All out with just a couple of balls left, 284 the total

England struggling a bit here, Brook finally getting some runs to justify his selection.

119/5…. Another quick wicket and England are in trouble.

Liam Livingston would drive you mad… just gets out to average deliveries way too frequently.

England really up against it here. As I type Brook gone!!! 169/8. Surely Afg win from here.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,115 ✭✭✭MFPM

Big win for Afg and relatively easy too! England three games down only one victory, and more importantly 2/3 are the teams England would expect to beat. I'd still expect England to make the top 4 but they're making it difficult for themselves.

    Afghanistan win by 69 runs…

that’s a hammering. The result is an upset but the margin of victory is incredible….

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,220 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Complete performance by Afghanistan. Unreal effort by all their bowlers. England are in trouble now, they didn’t look like a semifinal team at any stage today.

England against South Africa next…and they really need to get their shït together….

England have lost 28 wickets in 3 matches…concerning.

what I find interesting is anytime the camera pans to Jos Buttler in the stand he’s slumped in his chair..looking glum, sheepish and rather alone and emotionless.

Camera pans to Stokes…he’s sitting bolt upright, he’s talking to teammates and back room staff… he’s animated, he’s happy / frustrated / nervous, you can read him. Jos is just… ‘😐’ it looks weird him being the captain…

So far with England and Australia, it very much looks like the Ashes was the be all and end all and the World Cup was very much the secondary focus this year.

During Eoin Morgan's tenure, it felt like they built for that 4 years between World Cup to win that last one whereas here, it seems to have cropped up on them without any real major build-up. At the moment they look like a side that is heavy legged and a bit over the hill. They don't quite have that motivation to win the World Cup after also adding the T20 trophy last year also.

Chris Woakes has been historically a poor bowler away from English conditions. Goodness knows why the picked him. I always thought their bowling was going to cost them when it mattered and they picked the wrong team today by leaving out another spinner in Ali.

They don’t have that aura of invincibility anymore. Said it a while back, they went into this hoping it would be alright on the night.

Changes for South Africa should be Atkinson and Willey in for Woakes and Curran. Or maybe one of them and Ali depending on conditions. They only bowled four overs each today and went for over 80 runs. The rest bowled alright especially Rashid and Livingston. Wood and Topley were fine too.

Sri Lanka going well, looking very comfortable against Australia. 79-0 in 14 overs.

Starc being an idiot pulling out last second to warn the batsman about wandering out. Three times he did it now. It’s an awful look I think.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,115 ✭✭✭MFPM

I suspect they'll give Woakes another game but bring in Stokes for Curran, who has been awful so far. It might leave them a bit tight for bowling options though.

Australia much like England are just not at it so far in this tournament. Sri Lanka doing well 102/0.

This has to be the worst ODI side Australia have put out since I’ve been watching cricket….

they might end up chasing 340 or thereabouts here….

Sri Lanka 114-0 after 20. They’ve taken very few risks too, when they do put the foot down 👀

  • Registered Users Posts: 170 ✭✭rpirl

Australia faced v. strong attacks in first two games so we'll get a better idea of where their batting is today, but Sri Lanka will know this is a must-win game for themselves

They have Bangladesh, England, Afghanistan next so could bring themselves back into the picture

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,115 ✭✭✭MFPM

Cummins has come up with two big wickets. Sri Lanka need to rebuild a little. They could still get to 300..

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,115 ✭✭✭MFPM

Zampa finally comes to the party! 2 from 2..SL struggling a bit now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,856 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Struggling big time… lost all their momentum. 125/0 —> 183/5

300 is still a realistic possibility but they need a bit of luck and not to give away wickets. As I type, stupid run out… 184/6….they’ve really been the architects of their own downfall…

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,856 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

    125/0 —>183/5 —> 209 all out

    lost 10 wickets for 58 😅👀

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,115 ✭✭✭MFPM

Netherlands had been doing OK and then 2 down.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,220 ✭✭✭Gillespy

South Africa are in a spot of bother here. Four down and still 200 needed.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,115 ✭✭✭MFPM

Only just catching up on the result now, what a victory for the Dutch. What is it with SA at world cups, they were flying and now this. England will feel alot more confident for Saturday than they may have been.

Dutch kept their heads even though wickets were falling, kept the scoreboard ticking over but definitely helped by some sloppiness in the field

Might've been a century there for Edwards if the full 50 had been played
