The run rate isn’t exactly explosive, probably respectable but the Pakistan side will be a bit concerned that they’ve only taken 2 wickets in the 24 overs so far….make that 3 as I type. 😝

Yeah the run rate isn't great but The Netherlands are well in this.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,052 ✭✭✭MFPM

Two wickets in three balls, Pakistan on top now. Netherlands 133/5 after 27

120/3 to 205 all out ... holy fùck... were doing OK then loosing 7 wickets for 85 runs... some great hitting at the top of the order....

Two quick wickets for Bangladesh has put them in control. Steady start for Afghanistan but run rate is low and in forcing it they gave up two easy catches.

The other match today is South Africa and Sri Lanka.

Then the big one tomorrow, Australia v India..should be interesting..

After a decent if slow start Afghanistan under real pressure now, from 112/2 to 126/6, Bangladesh on top.

South Africa up next today then the big one tomorrow Australia v India...should be interesting.

Pathetic crowd in again. Weekend game so what’s the excuse this time. It’s a terrible look for the game.

Bangladesh coasting to victory. South Africa building a decent score against Sri Lanka...

Indian cricket fandom is a mile wide and an inch deep.

Indian fans are putting all the blame on the BCCI for not promoting the tournament, pricing them out of going to games and other ticketing issues. There is a lot of anger about it with them. And some believe it’s being done on purpose so to kill off the format.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,052 ✭✭✭MFPM

It'll be interesting to see if the crowds continues to be small if this competition may accelerate the debate about the future of this format..

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,808 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

It’s a brilliant format…..much more entertaining and tactically and skilfully demanding then T20…

however less investment of behalf of everyone, to put on T20’s though…. costs less, less time, less effort and it’s a greater draw for kids and families.

india supposedly cricket mad, I’d be saying “ ok in terms of attendance that’s a disaster, so do yourselves a favour and don’t be applying to host either format for the foreseeable “…

Other nations are having few problems getting bums on seats.

SA here absolutely tearing SL a new one… a combination of really atrocious bowling, and in one bowlers case illegal bowling…and top quality hitting.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,808 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

SA set for well over 400….

the SL bowling has been a disgrace….

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,052 ✭✭✭MFPM

Yeah, huge score for SA and SL won't get near it, SL have been struggling in all formats in recent years and it's hard to see them make a serious statement in this tournament.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,808 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

The SA score was the 9th highest ODI score of all time. SL were well beaten but considering the mammoth to impossible task, 326 is a decent enough attempt.

Australia moving fairly slowly through this innings, they've lost 2 wickets put on 97 runs but almost at the half way stage. Indian bowlers doing a good job of containing the scoring..

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,808 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Yes it’s a tricky looking pitch.

they’ll be happy enough to have 8 wickets intact.

that said it’s probably worth now putting the foot down, get that run rate up higher….try scoring 280, 290.

need to sacrifice a couple of wickets, so be it.

Indian fielding has been top notch… would have been a time you’d never contemplate saying that….

Smith gone, a very good delivery but not the greatest shot. His reaction and body language was “ hey, jeeez I got a good one there “ which is fair but that was also a hell of an ugly shot to a good delivery….

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,052 ✭✭✭MFPM

Australia struggling here, going at less than 4 an over. 8 overs to go. Be lucky to reach 250!

200 will try them I think. Indian spinners strangled the life out of them, all different, all with great control and skill. And Bumrah looks as dangerous as ever.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,217 ✭✭✭Gillespy

What a start for Australia with the ball. India 2-3 after two overs.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,052 ✭✭✭MFPM

Unreal start for Australia...India up against it already.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,217 ✭✭✭Gillespy

They’ve responded well and are back in position again. Mitchell Marsh dropping Kohli looking very costly.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,052 ✭✭✭MFPM

Great response by India to those early setbacks. Agree if Marsh had held that catch things may have been different.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,052 ✭✭✭MFPM

I'd say Kohli is raging with that shot, he was definitely on for a century. India coasting to victory.

Hard to see how India don't win this World Cup. Where is their weakness?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,052 ✭✭✭MFPM

India win by 6 wickets...Rahul just misses out on a century 97 n/o.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,217 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Top order when the ball moves is the main one and was exposed again today. Didn’t cost them as the target was so low.

Along with New Zealand they looked the strongest from the first round of games.

I've thrown a tenner on Pakistan to win at 23/2. I'm basically hoping Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi pull off some kind of miracle.
