Good to hear from you again optogirl. Delighted to hear you're venturing back onto the festival circuit. I'm sure it'll be a mix of emotions for you but that's the beauty of music, isn't it? There's a song for every occasion, happy, sad, everything in between. Hope you have a good one, all the best.

I really hope you enjoy ATN after everything you've been through. I've been to ATN since it began and have found it's very friendly and mainly festival-sound people who attend, along with relatively good line-ups (this year's offering not as attractive, in my opinion, compared to previous years). The festival is located in a lovely spot and has pretty good food and drink options. Ideally we'll get a good bit of sunshine with the inevitable rain showers, in contrast to the stormy downpours of last year, but hopefully this year the organisers will have prepared for the worst, unlike 2023.

8radio.com is great for pushing new non mainstream irish music but only on Fm a few times a year bit available through tune in. Their Spotify playlists great for finding new music

Get this type of message most years and then have a great weekend of music with most years dry, last year cracking weather.

Have a great time at ATN @optogirl , there are 8/9 acts already listed at ATN that I’d love to see, mainly Irish, and the vibe there is supposedly great. We’d love you back at EP sometime and will keep the bookers on their toes in your absence. Take care.

Yes, that particular poster doesn't seem to have commented on any EP thread before, or indeed on any music/gigs threads on boards, until his contribution today. At a rough estimate 99% of his posts on boards appear to be rugby-related, from schools-level to international level. I'd say he's gone back now to his natural boards home, energised by his contribution to the discussion here today. He totes burned us, what a legend.

Everyone looking forward to the announcement tomorrow? I think we'll all have a few acts to keep us happy. 😏

If the announcement doesn't happen tomorrow then remember that things change all the time in the music business. One minute they're announcing it in April, then a few days later they're announcing it in March and then back to April again.

It's a tough life being in the know.

    Hi folks.

I've been laying low for a while as I've nothing to add on the who will play? speculation. I suppose it will be like every year and they will unlikely please everyone, but once you dig in a bit (almost) everyone will be mostly happy.

It will be August soon enough and we can all be giving out about queues, toilets and the lack of a recycling machine to get all those 15c back 😄.

I doubt very much there will be an announcement tomorrow. For the 20th year, the media machine (bad as it is) would be in full swing by now.

    H.

Irish bands that I'd like to see on the list, in no particular order - And So I Watch You From Afar, The Bonnevilles, Chalk, Melts, Rhinos, Fontaines DC, The Murder Capital, Sprints, Thumper, Gurriers, Therapy?, SLF, Amy Montgomery...and I'm sure there's more that I've forgotten.

Didn't last year's first announcement in December come out of the blue? Was there media coverage leading up to that? I honestly can't remember..

Back on that Massive Attack point, I can see why people would say they're not headline material anymore. The festival has moved in a different direction, and was already doing so in 2018 when they last played. A huge chunk of the crowd left after NERD (ie Pharrell) had finished, and those of us left wouldnt have filled one of the medium sized tents. Equally, As much as I loved seeing them open with I Against I (only the second time they ever played it, and only time without Mos Def apparently) it completely passed much of the crowd by, and by the time they got around to the genuine hits/festival ready tracks, even casual fans were getting a bit put off.

You could put an act like that as a headliner in the early days of the Picnic. Its not great PR, or likely to help the festival sell out, if they keep booking them these days. Even if Tame Impala had fewer recognisable hits, they are just more ready to get a crowd going than MA. If they do get booked again, I would imagine it would have to be in a different capacity than headliner.

To be honest, I'm dizzy with all the dates and facts.

I will be pleasantly surprised if an announcement arrives tomorrow/today.

But until i hear is from Melvin himself, It's all trolling and guesswork really.

Word! Announcement has traditionally been midweek, we’re in for another weekends dreaming.

Great to hear from you @optogirl - hope you're are doing well as possible. As you can see we're still debating this festival daily with a new-found level of maturity and in-depth analysis that puts other messageboards to shame. We're for ATN this year again too, think you'll enjoy it. Plenty to see for a first-timer and a great setting!

Enjoying these boys at the moment. In Dublin in May but they're doing Reading and Leeds, would be a lovely addition.
