Any time I have heard it discussed on Irish radio, the panelists defended the end users. Because of the Cost of Living Crisis. None of them ever ventured the opinion that it might be down to Greed.

Yes they care. Sky charge advertisers based on the amount of people watching. If they can tell how many are watching they can't set a correct ad rate.

    https://www.theguardian.com/business/2024/oct/20/sky-doubles-operating-losses-to-224m-in-2023-as-revenue-flatlines

Ad revenue is 1.2 of 8.6billion total.

Losses are put down to loans, outdated technology and staff related.

No mention of iptv or PL. I would hazard a guess that the majority or IPTV users wouldn't get sky. Certainly not year after year. I'd say a big chunk of IPTV users are sky users..i definitely know a good few. They have it to not miss anything or the box sets.

If sky and the premier league want to stop iptv then they need to consider that their market is more than it's current customer. Which the article notes has flatlined, not dropped.

Now TV shows they have the technology, just not the will power. If they can do a day pass then they can create other variations. Get creative, think of them as a new customer, not a defected one.

Like the bully who always won Sky are on the demise now and looking like they need the help from the likes of RTE and radio to put fear into their customers - just in case they consider leaving.

Have an account myself and after this laughable shout out from an old giant that’s on its death bed, I’ll be calling them to pull the plug next week.

250 euro they are asking for broadband and full sky on Q. We all know that’s completely insane and only a fool would pay it.

I remember having Sky years ago and it was huge at 85 quid a month and people balked at it then.

Their greed at making their customers pay a minimum for silly channels and then upgrade to those sports packs is coming to an end because People Can’t Afford It.

Is Weckler a paid stooge now for Sky?

There tech consultant is a joke saying she sees iptv coming to and end. She has no idea how the internet works.

You mean Jess Kelly?Expert? Listen to herself and Cuddihy in conversation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,374 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Jess Kelly tends to be an expert in the bleeding obvious. Same with Weckler.

These tech experts know no more than tens of thousands of listeners. They seem to just have been in the right place at the right time.

    Same as Charlie Weston.

Lads you are all goosed …. Sky have just bought boards and have your IPs and PNs. Best if you all switch off the internet ….. 😂🤣😂

There's no such thing as a 'dodgy box'. It's a term used all right but in theory any device capable of installing various IPTV apps on could be referred to as a dodgy box. That would include a whole host of devices that could be used for legal or illegal activities.

In relation to GDPR and TV sellers passing on info to An Post, I don't know if that's ever happened and I'd assume if it did it was because of a legal requirement to do so.

If the legal basis for it is still there GDPR wouldn't be the reason it is no longer done.

Yep, every laptop, phone and most tvs these days can run iptv. The amazon firestick system is just the mass market variation.

Yep, the 'kmowledge' of some of those contributors doesn't go very deep at all.

That said I suppose there's only so much they can say.

Firesticks are dodgy boxes in Ireland, like all 4wd vehicles are Jeeps. All vacuum cleaners are Hoovers and all sticky tape is Sellotape.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,374 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

YYip, Despite firesticks being a perfectly legal gadget.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,322 ✭✭✭✭kippy

You've not been around long if you equate firesticks with the term dodgy box.

To be clear, I was responding to the point made that dodgy box sellers should be reporting the contact info of all dodgy box buyers to x authority etc.

trying to get Amazon to lock down firesticks is like trying to get Microsoft to lock down their operating systems. It will never happen.

    TOX3 32/4gb for TV and X96 Max+ 32/4gb for projector. Windscribe Pro.

For anyone that is just looking for basic functionality, smarters works on an lg tv. You don't get catch up but it's got all the channels, movies and box sets. You only need one remote and the magic one is pretty decent.

Nvidia shield TV for main TV. Also have app on phone and have it on a chromecast with Google TV in second TV

I downloaded the app, but I don't see the option to login with my Iptv details.

It seems to be logged in with some sort of generic free account.

Some nice hardware there lads, with me the software is side loaded via downloader for Amazon, but since it’s uses the same system as Xiaomi - works a treat.

I’m personally not on any FB or any of that nonsense but I can tell you it’s where Sly lads get their accounts to hit the server where it hurts. The deeper you go and hit the real guys for their servers is where you’ll have less hassle come Premier League & Boxing PPV broadcasts.

Can’t stress this enough, get a VPN.

    Trust me on that.

My supplier is becoming incredibly greedy. My one connection now costs €120 per year and is locked to one box in the sitting room, the mytvonline app now doesn't work unless I'm on my home wifi, which is pointless. Can anyone recommend something else for me before I give this tool another €120.

Granted it's a fantastic service, I don't need a VPN and it's always always worked.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 699 ✭✭✭Manc-Red_

VPN is not just for viewing. In fact it’s to cloak what you are doing to keep the wolves away.

Not at liberty to give my server out and your dude is 125% over what I pay because I get it at the source. Telegram is the way forward.

Because of the VPN I’ve Peacock from the states and BBC etc from the UK. Well worth it.
