Is there any reason left not to go smart meter?

Do they notify you of the new figure or is it a surprise?

My 3rd €298 payment went out yesterday so that's basically a grand handed over since sign up. The welcome bonus plus government credits will cover the vast majority of my usage through winter so I'm expecting to be pulling a grand back down in February.

Not sure whether they'll notify you, but if you ring them, they will issue you with a refund, as long as a credit of €90 remains on your account. At least that is what they told me last Friday, haven't got the refund yet.

Yeah I was told the same re withdrawing credit, I'm not looking to do that yet but I do want to know what my next "level pay" figure will be so I can balance the books.

They normally send an email at start of the following month after your third payment advising of the new level pay amount. The app will also show it when you go in on the fourth month under the account section.

It will drop to a certain amount on the fourth month and again further in the fifth month. Mine dropped to €26 in month four and then to minimum €5 in month 5.

They allowed withdrawal of entire balance after a year to me but took few emails before they sent it to my bank account. In fairness to them fit payments were new then and they hadn't dealt with it before. The second withdrawal was a lot easier to sort

    Same

Sure not bad for November, the third worst month for PV

For comparison, I buy about €2 worth per day (40kWh at 5c)

    And just in from Pinergy...

For the next 2 years, Pinergy will be paying me 😂

Ouch, your initial payment was €329?

I was €298 and then reduced to €35.

Yeah, 5 people on the bill here, that means €329.55 level pay to start with. It also means I can make €2000 per year in FIT without owing a cent of income tax on it 😁

How do they determine the initial level pay amount? Is it numbers of people on the bill?

Yes it is. But there is very little in it. I think @DrPhilG has only 2 people on the bill, still nearly €300

One can understand that Pinergy set the initial amount high. It is to cater for households with high electricity use.

Phil has only 1 person on the bill.

Just checked the previous statement and it's only my name.

    The absolute useless feckers.

Email sent to Reagan as usual to fix.

    Fix what?

If you want to add people to the bill, you can do that via the app on your phone.

That wouldn't be wise from a business point of view as half the people would end up owing money, which is hard to collect if you don't have a prior agreement to do this. Makes more sense to setup level pay at a very high level, so the vast majority of people will eventually get a refund and you, the business, is not going to have a shortfall / bad debt

I'm currently with Energia and had a new smart meter fitted recently.

I called to sort out which contract to go for.

I have smart electric heaters which run 9-10am, and then 6-10pm. Nightime use is minimal.

Energia said I only have limited options as the "CTF Status is 1". I think that means the signal from the new smart meter isn't too good.

I'm currently on a "dumb meter" old day/night rate, which doesn't make much sense because the old storage heaters are long gone.

    Any suggestions?

I ended my energia contract, was on level pay, they have nearly 1k to pay back to me once I closed it

Just a warning. they owed me about 1300e (and wanted to up my level pay....).

They said it would automatically refunded and guess what .....it wasnt.

Rang them and they said because it such a high amount that they wanted to verify the meter readings.

She was very surprised to hear I had photos of the meter from the day I switched and had to forward them to another department before they payed out.

Oh it took me a number of weeks and phone calls to get the refund

Will more than cover my November bill. December expiry should just cover that one too depending how next few weeks go.

On your statement for those who recently switched does it show export units at 27c or 25?

Where in app can you do this? been meaning to add few to mine 😁

Open the app => "profile" in the bottom right corner => manage users => add new user

Do I have to change to a smart meter? I would prefer to keep my day and night meter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,310 ✭✭✭irishchris

Nice one, cheers. After your added then this way so their names appear on your monthly statement? Assume this would be a necessity in order to have tax allowance for all included

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,280 ✭✭✭✭unkel

No, only one name on the statement. Pinergy told me the only way to add people was through the app. So take a screenshot of the app with all the users in it and keep it for your tax records.

I gave 2 names when I signed up, and confirmed by email that 2 were to go on the account.

Didn't realise I could add via the app but I shouldn't need to. The silly sods could just stop being useless. I've now got 2 statements with only my name.

Reagan has since corrected the account, and reissued copies of the past statements with the amended details.

As good as the rates are, it really is brutal how incompetent they are, outside of one single person who actually does their job.

Is it any different with the other utility providers? I found Flogas the most horrendous of the lot. Took on average of a week for any email reply, couldn't even get them on the phone (last summer). There is full employment in Ireland, if you still offer peanuts for salaries, you get some monkeys. If you are lucky.

Got an email from pinergy confirming the €100 welcome bonus has been applied. The took it off the third payment of €298.
