It’s calmed down a lot in the last 20 minutes here in Meath. Hopefully nearly over.

I see the lifeboat has gone out from castletownbere, weather should be improving a bit there but still not a nice morning for it.

Up in Antrim and the winds have really kicked off since 5 A.M. It’s very loud.

Relatively quiet/calm now in Greystones. Had a gust of 59kts around 2am.

I see DunLaoghaire Harbour had a gust of 63kts and 0122. Not to be sneezed at!

Mainly a rain event, more so for South coast with the bulk of the severe winds passing to our South. A notable event all the same!!

Quite often a storm shakes up the status quo. This one is no different and sort of takes us out of the current cycle of lows. Staying unsettled but more dry spells evident than we have seen for quite a while

I thought it was back but power gone here. Big fault with 1000 customers affected.

49.6mm rain and a blown over tall sunflower, wow, feels like autumn!

Powercheck website tells the story, south east looks to have gotten the worst of this, several power outages quite close to here zooming in, we got lucky:

44.0mm of rain in Greystones from Betty.

Think that may be a low estimate this year!!! Figures to date...

No trees were harmed in the posting of this message, however a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

God love those attending Another Love Story festival in Meath (between Kinnegad and Trim). How bad did it get around this area?

A truly awful summer for festivals and events this year.

Thanks for that. Interesting link aswell.

yea as I heard it yesterday I thought that will easily be surpassed this year.

Unsurprisingly the half Ironman today in Youghal was cancelled. Being run alongside the full tomorrow instead. Second time in 5 years the event has been moved because of weather.

My road here in dublin is a leaf graveyard, they are even in the back garden so the wind must have been very strong.

Winds have calmed a bit here in Navan. Still some rain but power is back thankfully in the last hour.

It's blowing harder now here in West Cork than it did last night, the wind missed us.

Current weather conditions in Youghal dry and bright windy enough. Half IM cancelled today and rescheduled until tomorrow.

Wild night here in South Wicklow. Power went around 2am and has just come back. Fairly significant outages in the Arklow/Rathdrum/Avoca/Aughrim area, few thousand people without power. The winds peaked here between 1:30 - 3:00 with some very strong gusts but I think the trees in leaf made it seem much stronger than it was.

There was no round 2 down in Cobh anyway - it was supposed to be rainy and windy for a second time post-midnight, but no more rain and only about a 50kmh gust.

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,440 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

And going on the posts from the south east and the east we were lucky it did because with the amount of rain we had, we didn’t need high winds. That ESB powercheck image posted a few posts back tells a story of where the wind went.

Wettest August day since 1986 at Valentia Observatory yesterday with 74.0mm whilst Cork Airport had its wettest August day since 1998 (it also had a wetter August day in 1997 from the infamous Bank Holiday deluge) with 63.0mm.
