Yet you're continuing to argue that you were the victim of some sort of malfeasance.

The only relevant issue to discuss now is that the thread in question has now become an echo chamber of left wing voices only. It's the same story in the "dangers are coming from the right" thread.

In fact that majority of threads that are regularly at the front page of CA are echo chambers for left leaning posters. And these people would like us to believe this site is a breeding ground for far right extremism.

Mission accomplished now in the "dangers from the left" thread, discussion closed down, yet another thread to add to the list of places where the usual suspects dump links to stories they agree with to lord it over long departed opposing voices and the tiny insular cadre of chortling allies.

Discussion is never welcome, dissent is squashed and done so in short order.

You've won, the arguments put forward by people like me and others you disagree with are, regardless of how factually accurate or well researched they might be are no match for your vitriol.

To my mind any user of a discussion forum who's apparent mission is to stifle and shut down discussion is not engaging in good faith but it seems that logic doesn't apply here.

    Without a doubt.

There's a cohort of users who do not want discussion to occur and they have free reign to do as you hey please.

    The result is discussion ends.

For a site built around the concept of discussion that's a problem.

    This is ridiculous.

Have a look at my last post in the dangers from the left post and come back to me. What does my last sentence say?

I’d offer you a link, but what’s good for the goose etc.

The only relevant issue to discuss now is that the thread in question has now become an echo chamber of left wing voices only. It's the same story in the "dangers are coming from the right" thread.

And what about the 'dangers coming from the left thread'? Or the Wokeism of the day thread? Or the multiculturalism thread? Or the problems with Green policies thread? Or the Mixed Couples in TV ads threads? No echo chambers there no? Or the latest one yesterday, asking if Immigration (amongst other things) is one of the biggest problems facing Ireland but not suggesting Climate Change might be? In this the hottest week on record for the planet in the same week of the worst summer storm in history in the Netherlands and massive flooding in Spain.

What are the majority of threads that dominate the front page of CA that are Left Leaning?

Over the last 10 years we've seen the impact of allowing growing right wing sentiment leading to the advance of Trump, Brexit and a massive decrease in trust in science, not to mention the disaster that the Climate situation already is. I feel very strongly that challenging ideas that are demonstrably bad for society (division, individualism, racism, counter-education etc) is necessary. Me voicing my opinion in this respect, as I have done, is not trying to create an echo chamber. It is refusing to allow those I disagree with to spread harmful ideologies without being challenged. It's not attempting to have the poster change their mind, I know they're not going to, but others who read the thread will see that as counter argument. You see that as wanting an echo chamber, I see that as being the other side of a discussion.

To tie that back in to this thread, my issue with Boards has been that Moderation has influenced these discussions inappropriately, I started the 'Dangers from the right thread', I was banned from it for asking someone who constantly made statements but wouldn't put any context as to why they were making them why they wouldn't make an attempt to do so. I asked two mods to initiate an appeal, neither did so, so I stepped away from posting. To suggest Boards moderation is categorically Left leaning and that the site reflects this has no basis in reality.

The dangers from the left thread is what I was referring to.

The majority of posts are from left leaning posters in that thread. The multiculturalism thread hasn't been posted in for 17 days and is in the third page of the CA forum right now. Mixed race couples was last posted in yesterday and it was a mod warning after another bicker fest involving a well known left leaning poster.

I'm not going to address the rest of your post because we've been down that road before.

I just wanted to highlight the fact that the threads you alluded were thriving really aren't.

A refusal to allow others have to "spread harmful ideologies" doesn't appear to be the same as having a discussion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,080 ✭✭✭✭Tell me how

A refusal to allow them to spread these ideologies unchallenged.

    The mask slipped there.

"Refusing to allow" isn't part of discussion, that's regulation of discussion.

The last time I checked regulation of discussion on this site was carried out by mods or admins not individual users.

The fact that they felt comfortable saying that displays the impunity certain users feels they can operate under.

Jaysus. This is ridiculous. Same people scrapping. Most with nothing to say. There are serious amount of bully people out there and it ruins every thread. Piss them off enough and then the genuine poster gets banned.

I didn't use paragraphs above to give you ammo.

Mods have a tough enough job. Then double teaming on a poster comes into it and then reporting. Bollox that. What do they get out of it? A victory ****? It's pathetic and they should look at their life.

I'm getting wound up, so time for a camembert and pigs arse flesh toastie.

And yet you spent a good part of yesterday saying you should be able to dictate some people don't respond to you.

That wasn't a mask slip btw, it was thinking something was obvious and didn't need to be explained.

Any comment on the part of my post that was a direct response to yours?

I wonder how much traction a thread titled “the middle ground of the day” or “all dangers are coming from people on the fence” would get.

    I’m not no

it’s a vanilla thing i think, I’m just mod in AH

okay asking is one thing but as I said going and mentioning them directly so they get a notification in their inbox is another story.

I’ve taken the necessary steps as I always do if I think a post has fallen foul of the rules.

Have there been any threads in the last ten years that would be worthy of a place on the legends board? Is there a legends board anymore?

I was contributing to the thread I’ve linked below as it progressed. I think a quote of mine may have made an online article as media picked up on it. Such a funny few days.

Forum games then became my go to. Oh, and (feck his names on the tip of my tongue, prison guard) the battle of the biscuits, chocolates, etc.

Everyone is too serious and stressed these days and I include myself in that. This vanilla crap hasn’t helped either as I had to google to find the safe thread . If you haven’t read it before or if you want to reminisce, read “I found a safe”

Safe thread was great. Proper toastie thread WAY better.

The very use of a term like "refusing to allow" is enough insight.

The rest of your post isn't on topic so there's no call for anyone to address it.

Those battle threads were destroyed by certain mods. At the time I think they were felt to be too close to the bone with the verbal sparring or some such bullshít.

That makes more sense. There are some views and belief systems that I find abhorrent and might decide to challenge in order to understand the view. For example I'd like to sit down and have a chat with the people who have such an issue with certain books being in a Cork library. What led them to the position they take? Are they only motivated by hatred and why?

They are just some of the ways I think about challenging them.

They don’t want their kids being exposed to sexual fetish material , I agree with them

It would get ruined by the same clowns that ruin every thread.

Was it not a protest about the presence of LGBTQ books?

TBF they don't seem to be the most literate group so I imagine they themselves are unaware of what books they actually are trying to "protest".
