“All you've done is prove my point with every post you've made on this subject and this latest tantrum just compounds it even further.”

“The biggest issue on boards is the cohort who want to shut down anything they don't like and play out their old petty grudges at every opportunity.”

It’s actually ridiculous at this stage that the mods don’t do anything about it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,640 ✭✭✭Flaneur OBrien

You realise how easy it is to see your comments? How easy it would be to find that post? Get off your high horse. You’re a hypocrite of the highest order.

    Talk about irony.

On the other thread you posted this afternoon thanking another user for bullet pointing their opinions and called me out in the post for having not done so previously.

Why this is relevant is that you supported the demands made of me to bullet point my opinions because it wasn't easy to see my comments.

So which one is it? Do you think my comments (posts) are easy or difficult to find?

Here's your post from the other thread for context (as you're so intent on carrying out this petty character assassination)

The neck on you to call me a hypocrite.

Nobody comes here to be harassed by other users.

    Your behaviour is a disgrace.

Is there some absolute rule that after a certain amount of pages a thread degenerates into a few people bickering with each other in a manner that isn't the least bit interesting to anyone but themselves?

I'm involved in what you're describing and I really don't want to be.

Another poster mentioned it, where one or a few posters turn up and bicker or respond to every post anyone posts in a thread. The threads jump to ten pages per hour of bickering or wilful misunderstandings, accusations and it’s the same few posters constantly doing it. Then add in telling new posters to read the whole thread.

You dragged a whole other argument in here screenshots and all. Show a little self awareness please.

This thread is about what's wrong with boards.

I gave an example of a current issue I was dealing with, I named no names and didn't link to the thread in question, instead discussed the behaviour I was seeing separately from the thread in question.

The people who were harassing me on that thread then interjected on this thread and have been harassing me and ruining the thread for everyone else ever since. And now they're trying to blame me for their behaviour being disruptive.

This is all acceptable on boards these days it seems.

So in answer to the question "What happened to boards.ie?", this bullshit happened. And it will continue to happen so get used to it. Because even putting someone on ignore does nothing to stop them smearing you if they feel like it.

a few years ago a mod would jump in and tell them to take it to pm....

that happens less and less now due to not enough mods around to read the threads, obviously to the detriment of the forum.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,172 ✭✭✭RobbieTheRobber

Even if you try to take it to pm you might still end up reported and infracted.

Anyway I just want to point out Im not involved in the bickering in this thread although I still expect to be threadbanned for it.

What happened to boards? Posters like yourself slipped through the cracks with your trollworthy behaviour.

I am not being uncivil, I’m calling you out. You are posting in a bullying behaviour, screenshotting from another thread and posting it here.

You have a habit of writing very long winded posts, so you were asked repeatedly on the other thread to sum up your points, which you refused to do (or even link to!) Btw, I was not the main poster asking you to sum up. I believe I asked once, which is the post you screenshot to show how persecuted you are being 🙄

Enough with the airing of dirty laundry.

I am very sorry to the casual reader of this thread who have been witness to the back and forth. The posts were reported, but the mods obviously thought there was either nothing actionable OR there’s not enough mods and they haven’t gone through the clusterf*ck that’s this thread.

The conduct of this thread has answered the OP's question.

I'm not seeing what's an issue with nullzero's posts - other than his views aren't as liberal as those of others (and people should stop equating less liberal to hardline rightwing). I see him laying out his position clearly (longwinded? Or just well supported?) which is something many don't bother doing (whatever their political leanings). I see his position being distorted, and I see him start to defend himself (still supporting himself in detail) and his position continue to be distorted, until he's driven to frustration (not abusiveness though) and then be the one reprimanded. Rinse and repeat, mission accomplished.

There are vile antisemitic, racist, homophobic, misogynistic people obviously - people who pretend to support Russia because it looks edgy, people who attack those who support the Covid jabs and call the pandemic a hoax and woe betide those who disagree, people who pretend Trump is a decent guy... but nullzero isn't like that. He's just more conservative than liberal - big woop, diversity of opinions is healthy.

If you want everyone to be very liberal, you're gonna be disappointed.

Has nothing to do with someone being liberal or not. Has everything to do with sticking to central topic and not engaging in personalities or declaring this user or that user is the root of all the sites problems etc.; apparently that is easier than sticking to topics.

If I write a very long post and someone asked me to synopsise, I would. I don’t see the issue tbh.

More fool you if you summarise a post for someone who can't be bothered to read it.

It's bad enough demanding proof and links, but summaries and bullet points is taking the piss.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,145 ✭✭✭ilovesmybrick

It's almost predictable at this stage, as some previous posters have alluded to, that if a thread goes over a certain length you'll almost be guaranteed to find the same half dozen squabbling with one another, over utter nonsense, willful misunderstandings, and bringing up past grievances in old threads into unrelated discussions. It's tiring, it's off putting, and it's tedious. And it's not a left or right thing, just people being d**ks for imaginary slights over the internet.

Probably safer to bow out of CA altogether and stay in the Star Trek pages where I belong!

I’m not a frequent poster but I like to check in here a few times a week and I nearly always find something or other that’s worth following.

Between this user name and one other account which I deleted a few years back I’ve been on boards for a long long time. At the risk of repeating myself in a previous post, I just see it getting more divisive and argumentative and moany and I think back longingly at the craic and cameraderie and lighthearted banter and epic threads that seem to have disappeared. Why? I don’t know. It seems to be everywhere, on social media, on mainstream media, on the streets, in clubs etc. People getting aggressive and offended and polarised and turning on each other.

I still like Boards though and I will stick with it. I hope it survives into the future.

I would imagine that actioning posts on this thread would go against the whole point of it , unless they were very very bad .

Having said that , and with due respect to the posters involved , and their sincerity , 90% of the bickerfest could probably be deleted and the rest of the posters on the thread would probably still get the message .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,640 ✭✭✭Flaneur OBrien

    Depends on the thread really.

As it’s a thread called “The dangers are coming from the left”, and a poster (not me) asked for a synopsis of what exactly constitutes the dangers from the left.

It’s much easier to just post the bullet points, as was done today, than just say something along the lines of, “they’re all there if you click back” which is helpful to absolutely no-one.

I'm just interested in how long the three of them can keep it going. Surely one of them has to crack and stop responding to the others in a few days or weeks, right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,145 ✭✭✭ilovesmybrick

Based on prior threads, no. The heat death of the universe might do it, but that's a stretch!

Do posts like this one move the conversation forward?
