Lovely, surprisingly warm and sunny day in Cork yesterday at last! Back to the rain and cloud today though.

Bright and some lovely sunshine in Meath. Tomorrow looks awful and have family event.

Cold in Dublin City centre. Bright but cold.

Windy today. Sunshine and heavy showers.

Absolute rotten evening here in my area of Meath, heavy enough rain since about 6 with a couple of ridiculous downpours with it.

Getting a bit sick of the rain and torrential downpours at this stage.

Its gotten to the point where we are going to have to re-seed a good bit of the garden in Cork. Have no choice but to walk through it with the bins etc. Just a mud bath now covered in puddles. We have never seen our garden as drenched. Walking home yesterday a good chunk of parks in estates were the same. @sryanbruen I believe you mentioned previously about 2018 being wetter, but I think that has been beaten now? Up to 192.5mm at Cork Airport. Second to Valentia only I believe looking at the stats, which is at 227.6mm so far!

Today seems to be a mixture of sunny spells and showers! Better then just pure rain!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,934 ✭✭✭✭sryanbruen

Yeah the wettest since 1996 now at Cork Airport. 1996 had 201.5mm so could be beaten. Before that, have to go back to 1981 with 213.5mm.

Meanwhile, Valentia is now having its wettest March since 1963! 260.0mm there that month after the severe cold winter.

its just a brighter winter is March and April really. Spring will come in May then we’ll have summer in June and July or as what passes as summer a couple of months of autumn and then winter from early October on.

Lovely day so far, have my chilli seedlings out in the sun soaking up some rays before taking them back in later.

Fingers crossed the weekend brings some relief. It just can't continue like this for much longer. It's lashed since September with just the cold spell in December and the very dry spell in February to break it up.

We're getting drenched by the outer bands of Storm Mathis down here.

Just endless rain for most of this winter and spring. Tired of it.

It seems pretty notable that Cork Airport has already had almost 3/4 of its hydrological year (Oct-Sep) rainfall and there's still 6 months of it to go. Can see how consistently it has been above the cumulative average (green line).

Edit: Valentia is even worse, has already surpassed 75% there..

Yep weather has been an absolute disaster in Cork since Sept. Feb was the only lengthy respite from rain.

Another whopper of a night. Wet & windy.

And yet what's the bets after about 5 days of dry weather in summer, Irish water will be telling us all to conservere water, we have plenty of rain in this country, not our problem if they refuse to store it properly.

At this stage I think I've gone through about 4 umbrellas this month.

Long time since I remember needing an umbrella all the time, even on ok days here in Dublin we still get rain.

Can't remember the last full dry day.

You think that's bad, English reservoirs such as Cornwall are still way behind and still in water restrictions despite the very wet autumn and other wet periods since the end of the dry summer minus February.

Another wet day today followed by another wet day tomorrow. From Sunday it looks like we are finally entering an essential dryer period for maybe 1 to 2 weeks with very little in the way of rainfall fingers crossed. Everyone is completely sick of the rain at this stage.

206.2mm for Cork Airport til midnight last night. 6.8mm recorded today so far with more rainfall forecast for the evening and tonight, looks like the 1981 record will fall. What's the next highest @sryanbruen ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,191 ✭✭✭KanyeSouthEast

Tuesday: It looks set to be mild and breezy on Tuesday with scattered outbreaks of rain. The best chance for dry and bright spells will be in the south of the country. Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees in fresh and gusty southwest winds..

Sunny spells in cork today for a change (although I'm in West cork for the weekend!). Brief showers but warm in the sun, about 15/16 degrees! Nice to feel some warmth, even if it is windy and showery.

This takes the biscuit here in Meath. Gonzo, kutebride , let's build an ark before we drown. I never want to see a March like this again. Come on April give us something

One of the wettest most miserable March's I can ever remember, the rain hasn't stopped here for over 24 hours at this point and the ground is in the worst state I have seen in years. April can only be better.
