haha, fancy some friendly best of three type thing? 3x races (chip time), loser gives €50 to charity of winner's choice.

Sure why not, we can compare calendars for rounds 2 and 3 (if necessary) after Raheny. 😁

Will this be a simple head to head or based on cumulative times to make sure you run to the line even if you're beaten?

Ah a simple head to head. It got me thinking that it could be a fun thing for others to do. Just stuck a thread up to gauge interest.

I've been running on and off for years. Decided this year to take it a bit more seriously and do a half marathon or two. I'll be doing the Wicklow half marathon next month and I'm aiming to do it in under 2 hours. Does any one know what it is like. Seems like quite a bit of it is uphill.

It’s a lovely race. Did it twice. Main thing is to keep it easy first half. Especially first few k. Dont think “this isnt too bad” and run too fast/hard.

As you can see, first 2-3k are basically flat and misleading. 10k in the toughest part is done. Now you can start enjoying it. That last climb has the most beautiful scenery you can imagine (if I remember correctly).

and the finish hill is a little climb of honour with usually a massive crowd.

Thanks for that. Yeah that first 10k looks rough alright. I'm trying to get some hill runs in to help build my legs up but I live in the city centre which is pretty flat. I've started doing the Khyber pass in phoenix park which helps but could do with something steeper.

Run the half marathon I've signed up for (Kilkee)

Seeing as the longest I've run is 8k, 9 years ago, I've a bit of work to do!

Great stuff. What kind of distances are you running at present?

Plenty of time til July. It'd be good for you to get a good base now, build up the mileage slowly over the next couple of months and look at a plan then in April/May to take you up to the race.
