Barnaul in 223 sp

Has any body used the above.I see it's for sale at a reasonable price.I think cases are steel but zinc coated.Is it overall a good bullet over various calibre's or is it best left alone.

Are they the ones in the small square box? I ask because I seen these years ago and they were marketed as 223 when in fact they were 5.56 (had both on the box)

This should give anyone cause for concern as 5.56 are not really 223 suitable.

Barnaul are cheap trash, but over here are especially problematic.

They are over pressure by SAAMI max pressures for 223, but under for CIP max pressure(though not by much).

If you have a 5.56 chambered firearm, or 223 Wylde, you are fine.

For regular 223 I'd avoid like the plague.

Apart from the pressure side of things, Barnaul are crap accuracy wise, and have had issues with inconsistent loads and hard primers in the past.

If you are getting them for <=50 cents per round, and have a 5.56 chambered gun, and essentially just want ammo that goes bang and little else, then go for it.

But beyond that nope, not worthwhile.

And absolutely not in a 223 remington chambered firearm.

In that case I'd heed @otmmyboy2 advice and avoid like the plague .

I ran then in my SA 223 even though Remington wouldn't give me a straight answer as to whether the rifle was 5.56 suitable and had no trouble with the rounds but they were dirt. Poor accuracy, misfires, hard extractions ( brass never went consistently to one spot when ejected which shows a huge variance in loads) and for me the shells were useless as they could not be used for anything else.

They wouldn't chamber in either of my bolt action 223's so other than over pressure there was a head space or seating depth issue which I knew well enough was the first warning sign to dump them.

If you want a dirt cheap, inaccurate round then look towards Wolf ammo, but again this is a 3" group at 100 yards type of ammo. I used this for bullseye comps as it was as accurate as I needed while shooting at a max of 50 yards.

Anyone have any experience with GGG 223? It’s the cheapest non Russian ammo I could find, that’s modern production and with a brass casing.

GGG is good to go.

Not the most accurate but on par with American Eagle 223 55gr FMJ, perfectly usable and with the right rifle quite accurate.

No loading inconsistency issues either, leaves brass in a neat pile with little deviation.

Only problem with GGG is getting it here as ammo has to be shipped Hazmat between countries in the EU, which drives up the cost something awful.

But if you can get it here it is decent ammo for relatively cheap(obviously this being heavily dependent on the overall cost including shipping).

Cheers I don't do any paper punching so was going to use these for what I mainly use my rifle for which is foxing but seeing yours and others opinions it seems they're best left alone and I'll stick with my fiocchi epn.Thanks.
