It's obvious that Munster have a much better attitude and physicality when compared to last season. But issues at the ruck and lineout killed so many decent attacking opportunities.

The attacking shape is coming along and at times it stressed the Ulster defence. Silly handling errors were a big issue however.

    Good stuff.

Id say Frank is raging 😊

Big disappointed slow arm up on that last penalty.

    What's the booing about?

Duane Vermeulen is still good at rugby

Really poor composure from Munster throughout. Ulster spurned scoring from penalty kicks, even at only 1 point.

First Ulster win at TP since 2014.

Neither team really impressed me. Munster are still building, and Ulster seemed to lack a bit of power and dynamism, and their control and ball placement in the post-tackle situation were poor.

Someone here posting that Kendellen would school Vermuelen 😂.

And the over hyped Ulster backline 😂

    And Munster to win 32 - 12 😂.

Anyway back to reality. Not a great game.

A win is a win is a win but Ulster were truly dreadful in the second half. Maybe the travel and the sickness took its toll but if they weren't factors you'd have to be a little worried.

Good win considering the illness that went through the squad. You should really always beat a team that is down to two academy locks and their 7th choice guy, and a ton of senior players. It should be a given, but the performance after having so much illness was impressive.

As usual, i was impressed by munster’s young players and not impressed by the older ones generally.

The decision not to kick the penalty near the end was puzzling. We were one Murphy special from losing that.

I thought Crowley and Patterson were really good on their side. Edogbo and Salanoa too.

The decision at the end was nonsensical. 3 points there would have ended the game, take your time with the kick, gather the restart and run the clock.

I thought going up the line was the right call. Munster could have won it with a subsequent try either way, and it was an opportunity to nab the bonus point, while also keeping play deep in the Munster half. It could have been a 5m lineout, which greatly improves the chances of mauling over. But it was a poor kick from Burns.

You can kill alot of time taking a penalty though.

Maybe I just have PTSD from Ireland going for goal and going 4 points up a few minutes before the end against France in 2007.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,402 ✭✭✭ulsteru20s

you have a point. Also, some refs love giving penalties when you are killing time on your own ball.

Yeah, I could see the logic of going to corner. Chance of a BP, but also killing the clock in their 22.

No matter what, facing the kick off aftwr the penalty, you'd need to find a way to close the game. And with Murphy on the whistle, you could easily end up defending a 5m lineout 4 points up.

Happy with the win, not often we collect points in TP We attacked where we knew we should, all the posters that called the maul being a key area were spot on. Nobody had a standout game - maybe Tom Stewart - but Vermuelen and Sunderland turned up in key moments. Thought McCann was finally starting to put things together before he was taken off.

Fans must be fed up with Niall Scannell, absolute liability at times and doesn't even do the basics to a high standard anymore. Barron seems to be breaking out nicely, even if I am a little annoyed he got the nod for Ireland ahead of Stewart. Just need to wait a little on Scott Buckley.

Munster must be sick of the constant 'transitions' and 'processes' the squad has been going through but I definitely feel they are playing better rugby, especially with the amount of injuries. It'll take a while imo because I'm just not a fan of any of their centres and I don't particularly rate their younger back three players, although Nash and Daly are playing better. Crowley must have his eyes the starting jersey for sure, I reckon he believes he's better than Carbery never mind Healy. I like a lot of their young forwards coming through, however Ahern gets injured too often and I wouldn't want to flog Edogbo as he's young and missed his u20 year so just hasn't played much senior rugby yet. Also feel like Coombes has to play to keep their backrow balanced - Hodnett and Kendellen are both some players though.

Anyway, Ulster had a stronger team on paper so I'm happy enough we did our job. We're in a good position in the table but Munster must be feeling a little nervous right about now.

On balance, Ulster showed more cutting edge and deserved to win.

I imagine the citing commissioner will be looking at the Vermuelen and Fekitoa incidents closely.

Frustrating win. If Doak hadn't had the complete collywobbles, we'd have finished that first half 3-21 and I'd have said there was no way back for Munster psychologically

I'd say some Munster fans will take that as a moral victory given the team they had out. But Ulster fans will take the 4 points and move on.

Fekitoa needs to buy paddy jackson a pint because if chris farrell was available he wouldn't see a minute on the pitch and it says a lot about what the coaches think of him that they took in that oli mallins lad.

A waste of a signing and its not even november.

Vermulen should have been red carded, and will probably get cited yet for his filth, and that ulster backline didnt cause anyone trouble tonight, they are a team more reliant on a maul than munster are.

And burns showed his true colours and the unbelievable buiishyt about him being a leader was evident when he turned down every conversion so the kid at 9 could miss them. What a pity of a 10 he is and how everybody doesnt see through him is baffling.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,113 ✭✭✭Paul Smeenus

    And then they won.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,042 ✭✭✭lawrencesummers

I know hes not a kicker hes a bluffer, a complete flake of a bluffer.

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,743 ✭✭✭✭Akrasia

Thats how it looked to me, the lifters were really struggling with Edogbo.

He is absolutely massive though, and Ryan was only off the plane so probably had no time to practise the lineout....

Who was captain at that point? An insane decision.

They were looking for the TBP and had plenty of reasons to think they could score from 10 metres out
