The massive Irish expat community in Cuba may disagree with you.

Manufactured vitamins cannot be processed by the body. Completely waste of money. They only provide benefit in their natural form.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Modern vacuum cleaners. The hair detangling thing is a great idea, but a laser so you can see invisible dust? An electronic display showing exactly how much gack was collected? All perfectly good reasons to price a Hoover at 800 quid of course.

I have a happy little fifty quid Henry and he has been perfectly hoovery and reliable for six years. I can live without knowing how many ounces of skinflakes he sucked up.

Legal eagles especially when it comes to tribunals of inquiries or commissions of investigation. They clean the taxpayer out on these. Also those Instagrammer so called influencers. How people believe and follow the shite that's on Instagram I'll never know.

Go screw yourself, you can go live-in the inner city flats cos you love them so much.

You don't get to tell somebody who doesn't agree with you where to live. Cheeky bugger.

Another champage socialist I bet . Always lecturing others. ’We the great Oirish people, we are so generous with other people's money , with our 92 rooms in the Phoenix Park but none for you’. Life of the party 🥳

You don't represent Irish people, you are conceited and arrogant and you are just some header on Boards lol.

Oh yeah Cuba, had trouble for years keeping their own folks from escaping, they loved it so much.

This is what I don't get. There's a lack of GPs and Consultants but these GPs and Consultants are absolutely minting it. Some don't even work evenings or weekends unlike other countries. They will take long breaks at Xmas etc.

I guess they have set up so many barriers to entry to keep their numbers limited and fees high .

The system of having to go through a GP to get an appointment with a consultant is legal corruption in my book, it's mostly a massive waste of time. Most patients will have a general idea of the issue already. Yes it's a skin problem, yes your back hurts , yes you have breathing issues, no we can't do anything for you here, we will write you a letter and charge you 50 quid.

In other countries I have lived in you can book an appointment with the hospital departments directly if you want. You can drop into different GPs and hospitals to get the best service.

Because it's part of a universal health system you are their valued customer and private and public hospitals are happy to see you, they both make money from treating you.

And the fee is fixed as long as it is through the universal public health system . GP visit 7 Euro, Hospital appointment 15 Euro. Meds...FREE.

Yeah it's hard to adjust to the absolute rip off and shambles that is the Irish Health Service , where even a private appointment could have you waiting months. A public appointment could be years later!!

    Jewellery

They have slave labour but charge people thousands for a shiny stone

Brainwash people by telling them to show how much you love your other half by buying this very expensive thing that you can't do anything useful with.

its an interesting one at the moment because energy companies are claiming they are only hiking prices because wholesale prices are rising. yet they they make four times the profit in 6 months they did in the whole previous year. something stinks. then other companies fail like panda.

True. De Beers group are absolutely milking it on the back of some good marketing

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,889 ✭✭✭✭whisky_galore

Inventing the engagement ring as a must have was a great scam. People scrimping and saving and getting themselves into debt over a shiny rock.

Where I used to live in Asia, some countries have national universal health systems. That's real by the way , and completely free prescription meds. Hard to believe I know.

    Civil Servants and Public "Workers".

The vast majority do the minimum amount possible with no requirement to perform, and still get guaranteed jobs and golden pensions and non-merit pay raises.

All this while providing mostly worthless services to their customers.

Dont believe me?..try contacting the RTBand see what level of service you get.

    +1

especially since man made diamond is dirt cheap to produce, DeBeers cartel just wont let them be used for jewellery. Its slowly changing though

And it's not just since the energy crisis.

What must the real price of a unit of electricity be ?

You have multiple companies willing to sell you that unit.

But each and every one of them have their own overheads like any other retail, marketing, call center, IT, legal, HR etc.

So how much is added on to the wholesale price of a unit of electricity to allow all these competing companies to pay for the above and also make a margin?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,194 ✭✭✭Ubbquittious

The privatised electricity market and MPRN-switching scene is just an artificially created playground for capitalism really. A source of cushy office jobs for those involved but the dirty work of actually generating power, building infrastructure is optional. Pretend you are getting certified organic green renewable electrons pumped to your house when actually you'll be left in the dark if Moneypoint goes down

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,616 ✭✭✭maninasia

The whole annual switching thing they promote in Ireland for these markets is silly when only a couple of suppliers control the infrastructure e.g. energy, broadband, healthcare plans, car insurance.

I thought about this and couldn't really come up with an industry that DOESN'T have a laugh at its customers' or taxpayers' expense. We live in a world full of morkeshing bullsh*t - however much of this can be ignored/avoided if a person has some sense.

After some consideration I think the worst are those that receive state funding to provide goods or services that (vulnerable) people NEED and still provide a shocking service. Step up, Homecare agencies who are engaged by the useless HSE. Truly disgraceful stuff as described in the below thread.
