The chances are in 4 or 5 years the condition and mileage will be far more relevent factor though than the mid-year plate number.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32 Duplex140

Yes, which is why I gave a scenario where mileage is similar and condition is identical. There's going to be a tonne of cars the same, but with a 252 reg. Its a clear and obvious disadvantage to me and an opportunity for a buyer to get a discount or else simply walk away and take the newer car. For a trade in, its a given this will be a reason to knock a few thousand off.

Don’t be sorry. It’s your car and a large purchase, hence my posts are just my opinion. You have every right to ponder over it and give it as much thought as you feel fit.

Push them for 252. Tell them out straight that you want a 252 and see how it goes. There’s a risk it goes to someone else and you’ll be on the next shipment which could be September but bearing in mind the car is now built in Germany, the delivery schedule may be sooner?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32 Duplex140

The way things are, with sales down, its possible they'll still have cars to shift come July. But otherwise, I can wait until September. I can also cancel and order again. There is literally no incentive for me to take a 251 in late June.

Thanks guys for helping me think through it.

Or it's possible that any cars they have left unmatched at the end of June get put in Inventory with a 2k discount and they're gone within a few hours.

Yeah, I mean I'd take it with a 2k discount. That eliminates my issue which is that I have absolutely no incentive to take the hit on this.

If they take the hit, then problem solved. But if they offer me nothing, pull the plug and then sell it fo someone else with a 2k discount, then I'd probably walk away and go for a different car to be honest.

the reg plate difference will matter in Ireland, that’s unquestionable, it’s just that the mid-year change matters a little less than a calendar-year change.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32 Duplex140

Mmm. Im being ignored now. This is turning really sour for me now. Starting to search for something else...

Anyone else unhappy with a June delivery?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,093 ✭✭✭✭drunkmonkey

I was told I could expect a June delivery which I didn’t want, ended up buying a 251 demo model with 14k off list and only 1200km on the clock direct from them. If you don’t want a new 251 in June which I didn’t, I’d hold tight and keep a close eye on their website for something to pop up. A heavily discontinued 251 could be a bargain in July.

    Of course there is.

    welcome to Tesla :)

They love to pay chicken with their customers in June and December.

(assume I added in the Braveheart “HOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLDDDDDDD!” meme here.)

Which model did you get with 14k off?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 173 ✭✭declan123

Yep they took the VIN off me when I insisted on July delivery - said they'd look to reassign in July but no guarantee on dates, etc. More or less back of the queue, considering there are no incentives, not even a loyalty discount I'm thinking about telling them to stick it you know where, considering the Tavascan

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,127 ✭✭✭sk8board

Without a shadow of a doubt, I’d call their bluff on this, especially this year of all years with everything going on around Tesla and them crying out for sales.

Why can’t they just reassign delivery a few weeks into the future? They’re trying to strongarm their own customers in order to make sales targets.

It’s genuinely ridiculous behaviour - ”just give us your hard earned €50,000 and stop bothering us ffs”.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,575 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

You're overthinking this @Duplex140 - first/second half year plates make absolutely no difference except to the neighbours.

Your 252 plate in Jan 2026 is considered a year old, not 6 months old.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,503 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

One might pop into inventory on 1st July and you can jump on that. Otherwise the Tavascan is a really nice car too. You’ll get no loyalty discount from Cupra either though.

At the end of the day, when these cars were first ordered, it stated June delivery. People need to remove the emotive part of the transaction. They are buying a car, it’s not a love story and the days of people getting waited on at delivery with red bows etc are long gone.

Doesn’t make it any easier handing over €45k though.

I’d go drive the Cupra. Have a spec you like etc ready so that if you do need to order you are ready to pull the trigger straight away and not waste another week going to view and drive etc

what’s the waiting time on a Tavascan currently?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,127 ✭✭✭sk8board

I disagree, and it’s a personal choice. For sure a mid-year change isn’t the same as the January change, but it’s still worth something to someone buying your car in a few years time, subconsciously or not.

It’s like arguing why buy a new car at all when a one year old one is €10k less.

It’s a new car, and in Ireland the reg plate dictates just how new it is, for better or worse.

251 Model 3 Highland AWD, list of 62k, paid 48k with more warranty than a band new one, even came with 3mts tax.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,580 ✭✭✭Underground

I suppose the reg plate does make a difference if you’re looking to trade it in within 2-3 years.

I’m planning to hold on to my yoke for 10yrs + so 251 or 252 makes no odds to me.

This is usual behaviour as Tesla move heaven and earth to ensure all available inventory is sold prior to their financial quarter end (sales heavily scrutinised by the market) . For anyone who wants to push delivery out (a personal choice) that can be done but Tesla will not hold the car if they believe they have a good chance of being able to sell it to someone else prior to quarter end. Tesla accounting policy is such that they can only recognise a sale as revenue if car has been paid for AND delivered to customer. It is for everyone to make their own choice about delivery but it may help in understanding their busienss model. My instinct (only a view) is that if a car is rejected and goes into Inventory it will find a buyer who wants the car now. Best of luck to all on their new car.

I drove it and its nice, would go for the endurance 6. Doesn't have same power delivery, range or likely efficiency of the Tesla but v well finished in fairness with a lot of kit such as HUD and DSS you wont get in the Tesla and looks better too. They have stock more or less ready to go for July registration and actually giving me a good trade in on a Cupra as well. From a hassle perspective, Tavascan makes a lot of sense. Still things like the missing heat pump (common omission on the MEB platform without winter pack) seems like a step backwards.

lads you need to stop taking it personally, the tesla model is what it is, you order online you take the car when its ready, you dont want to take it, fine roll the dice and hopefully you get one soon after your cut off date but really if i had tried the various cars in my price range and decided on one, i wouldnt be getting something else for the sake of a 251 v 252 plate myself, and if you think its limited to Tesla Audi tried the same thing with me as well when an a5 i ordered for march didnt come until early June they wanted me to take it as a 1 plate and it took a lot of pushing back to change that, they are all incentivised on half year numbers.

Personally I am half hoping they heavily discount the launch edition demo cars they have post end June and ill cancel my new order and take one of those as its effectively the spec ive ordered anyway.

They called me today to see if wanted to change my order to get a car sooner but i politely refused.

Yeah I walked away from the Tavascan because of the winter pack extra cost(€1700 or so?)- never getting a car without heated seats ever again!🔥

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,127 ✭✭✭sk8board

that’s the same model with all car manufacturers, except the likes of VW or Toyota are realising the revenue when they sell to the showroom networks, and not direct to a customer.

I can’t personally imagine why I wouldn’t wait a few weeks, versus a massive company pressuring me to give them my €50,000.

My experience of this with bmw was that they changed my delivery to July 1 as soon as they saw the car was delayed to end May, and called to confirm that’s what I preferred.

as for your instinct that the car would be picked up, I really doubt the demand is there to be honest - it wasn’t there last July, and I can’t remember 2023, but there weren’t too many dissatisfied customers

They can sell it to someone else, but they'll still have lost a sale. I will go elsewhere if I am treated poorly. Its not a big ask to request they hold off a week or two so that I get a 152, which is my decision as a customer. They have literally nothing on me. I owe them nothing. I'm not even getting finance off them.

There are other cars i will very happily take. It was a close decision to get a Tesla in the first place.

Im not even going to give the respect of tell them I'm cancelling and going elsewhere. Let them add me to the queue and when the time comes around Itocthem needing something from me again, im simply going to ignore them the way they are ignoring my queries.

It's so disappointing to be honest. It's as if the CEO's attitude has trickled all the way down. Similar to how everyone in Ryanair has an attitude problem, mimicking their CEO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,917 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

I still think you are taking this too personally. What queries are they ignoring, just the request to delay to a 252? It's a binary thing either they do it or they don't what else are you looking for or is there other queries!

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,503 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

Why would you that? They are a faceless organization. At least cancel to get your €250 deposit back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32 Duplex140

Yeah that's all. I'm looking for a reply or a phone call, from a shop im spend 53k in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32 Duplex140

I could try. But I did a test drive which apparently means they can keep it.

Yes possibly but I believe that irrelevant as you can still quite distance selling rules as that’s how you placed your deposit. I’d try it anyway.
