I see some of our loyalist/orange brethern are displaying the bigotry that they are best known for. In fairness to both the orange order and linfield they have condemned the video but it just shows that we have a bit to go before the island is rid of these vermin.

Well, to be fair it's a tiny cohort within the Grand Orange Order, as the GOO themselves have confirmed:

The Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland has instigated an inquiry into the incident and if any of those involved are found to be members of the Institution, they will face disciplinary proceedings.

Calling anybody "vermin" is very dangerous. It's the sort of dehumanising language that leads to genocide. I mean we see the outcome of that sort of dehumanising language right now in what Russia is doing to Ukraine.

And it's not a great look when it comes from somebody who names themselves after a well known supporter of the Nazis, Dan Breen.

Anybody of sound mind who sees that video will be disgusted.

Sadly for every one of those and every "KAT", there's a "Lord Mountbatten had a boat, ee-i-ee-i-o, and on that boat there was a bomb, ee-i-ee-i-o" and "I hope you die in your sleep Nacho Novo, with a bullet from the IRA".

Linfield have removed this man from his position straight away.

I don't see why they, as a club should be in the thread title imo. He was an underage volunteer who has been removed as soon as Linfield seen the video.

Linfield as a club have a bad elements to their support (name me a club who dosnt) but they do excellent cross community and cross border work

You can call it whataboutery if you like. Personally I think it's disgusting that anybody would chant derisively about the husband of a woman who was murdered and it should be absolutely condemned.

The simple fact is that most of those who want to push this as an issue are doing so in bad faith - as an attempt to portray "themmuns" as uniquely heartless and disgusting.

When that is not the case.

For every horrible instance of bigotry from one side, there's one from the other.

Both sides are as bad as each other.

In fact the nationalist side seems much more willing to glorify those who killed civilians during the Troubles, and votes for the lineage of that "tradition" in huge numbers.

Happens down here too - remember David Cullinane shouting "Up The Ra" after being elected in 2020. He couldn't help show his true colours.

Those who call out that shite from their side can't be taken seriously unless they do so from "our" side, and back it up with actions, as in, not voting for those who glorify that shite from "our side".

Vermin is something that needs to be irradiated. These lads need to be irradiated so vermin would be a correct nomenclature. I know they are also humans however being human does not inhibit one from falling into the vermin category.

This forum has loads of closet and not-so-closet Loyalist sympathisers. Interesting to see that few of them have condemned this recent offensive bigotry. Even Jeffrey Donaldson publicly condemned it.

SF supporters (and I'm no longer one, for the reasons I explain here *) are required to ritually abase themselves whenever an allegation implicating an SF person is in the media.

The video was disgusting. Absolutely disgusting, but declaring that because of a video that a large section of unionism is very, very sectarian is not fair comment.

It has really been disturbing to see the way that some people on social media have almost reacted with glee and happiness to the video as they see it as confirming their own narrow-minded prejudices.

Initially yes - the IRA re-armed to protect nationalists from Loyalist violence as the NI authorities were doing nothing - but acts like the bombing of the Enniskillen remembrance day and the pub bombings cannot be supported by any ethical person..

Sinn Fein like to piggyback on things like the Ballymurphy massacre. Thy don't tell you things like two years later they dragged out and shot the teenage son of one of the Ballymurphy victims.

An interesting book I read a few years ago:

It gives a good insight into the concerns and views of the evangelical Protestant community in Northern Ireland, much better than the likes of Ruth Deadly Ernest Edwards or Eoghan "wrap whatever flag I've decided to claim as my own today around me" Harris.

Some of those interviewed in the book, and bear in mind all were evangelical Protestants from unionist backgrounds, commented that the Catholic community had become if anything the more ambitious and hard-working, getting on with life, building businesses, getting educated, improving themselves etc.

I think the book was published approx 20 years ago, so I am not surprised to hear that the trends identified in the book by some of those interviewed have become more obvious if anything.

they are a very important part of irish culture and history, if it wasn't for them northern ireland would still be one of the world's worst sectarian states.

britain was never going to reform northern ireland without a violent campaign, successive governments made that quite clear.

The definition of a bigot is as follows

a person who is obstinately or unreasonably attached to a belief, opinion, or faction, especially one who is prejudiced against or antagonistic towards a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular group.

I think to become a member of, or even want to become a member of the OO you have to believe in the above.
