Seems to be windy everyday now, any half decent day is getting ruined with a nice breeze. Are we getting more wind than normal?

I feel the exact same. I think Sryanbruen said Met Eireann reported no more windy then normal for May but I don't believe them.

We have definitely had a lot more extremely windy days here in NCD then normal.

Today is 8th June and its like a winter storm out there in terms of the wind.

Don't ask questions you don't want to know the answer to 😉

    Just nudged 19c there

I'm in an exposed spot,it's what most people would describe as windy most days

Here's the current data which is a warm breeze today

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,049 ✭✭✭appledrop

Sryanbruen, I know you said you would analysis wind for May so will you look specifically at Dublin Airport if you can?

I don't care what Met Eireann said I have scientific proof from my school walks by the state of my hair when I got back that it was definitely more windy than normal in May😉.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,049 ✭✭✭appledrop

Today is a weird auld day.

This morning was sunny but the wind put a stop to it getting warm

However it's more humid than other days even when sun not shinning if you know what I mean.

It's raining on and off all day and we had torrential rain here in NCD after lunch.

I wouldn't be surprised if we got some thunder and lightning today.

We may get another brief window of dryness from late Sunday to possibly early Wednesday. Fingers crossed. Could get 2 dry and settled days from this ridge before the Atlantic topples over us again.

Appears to be alot of groupthink on this thread and the pessimism appears to be contagious. I jumped into this and the Spring thread a few times over the last while during lovely spells of weather in Cork and it rarely exercised anyone but a few days of rain and months of good weather is forgotten and the revisionism starts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,098 ✭✭✭mcburns07

I think you've made your point at this stage! Complaining about others complaining makes you just as bad :)

Just because the weather was decent for a while, doesn't mean people can't be disappointed / annoyed with grey cool rainy weather for almost all of the bank holiday weekend (Unless you live in the NW).

Lovely bright fresh day in Kerry, a bit cool in the shade and breeze but great sunshine. Out working tonight and had to wear extra clothes for a while due to the cold wind but it died away later in the evening. Got up to 16.9C and currently 12.3C

Nice sun halo this evening in the cirrus ahead of the advancing fronts set to cross over the country from the early morning.

    Sligo Reporting

After day 2 was a miserable one with rain most of the day albeit 6mm day 8 was another with wind 8mm of rain this time little sun and a max of 12c. The other 6 days were OK and well get 2 good ones next week.

So far in NW its 6-2 to nice days.

Still no temperature over 20c in Sligo in 2022 though.

2 years ago we had reached 26.2c by now

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 16,967 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

Today could get quite warm and muggy after the recent cold spell with temperatures possibly getting to 20 or 21C in places, I wouldn't rule out a 22C in a favoured spot with some sunshine.

First half of today will be dissapointing, damp and wet, but once this clears away in the second half of the afternoon temperatures will lift up especially in sunny spells.

Friday could also be quite warm, up to 20C and sunny in the morning but showers will break out in the afternoon with a small risk of thundery conditons.

I've made it twice to be fair in about two years of reading the thread and not posting. The thread lacks balance IMO and has been taken over by those who just want to complain about the weather or who are constantly chasing unrealistic idealised weather which we rarely actually get.

We had another update from Cork on Tuesday which took a very negative slant on what was a fine day with a three hour window of drizzle in the afternoon/evening. It was warm, dry and we had intermittent sun for the rest of the day.

Anyhow, it's raining again in Cork. Probably won't stop until September ;)

Rain in Leitrim this morning. I am allowed to report this, am I?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,330 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

Lol. Moaning about people you think are moaning. Hilarious.

Another stunning morning in Cork by the way. Just can't get enough of this wind and rain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,330 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

No. The weather police on here don't allow anything that they consider in any way negative.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,086 ✭✭✭KanyeSouthEast

yeah another gloriously wet morning in the sunny south east. Isn’t the weather always supposed to be scorching when the leaving cert is on yadda yadda yadda.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,182 ✭✭✭pauldry

Cold and damp so far in Sligo but I'll be positive and say it will be 18c later on.

I'll prob give this day a half on my NW Summer score card so it will be 6.5-2.5 after today. Unless it stays like this all day. Bad days will likely catch up as the month progresses

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,049 ✭✭✭appledrop

Miserable morning here in NCD, lashing rain and cold yet again.

I suppose the only positive thing I can say is at least it was well forecast and hopefully it brightens up later on.

Yeah miserable here in SCD also. It didn’t stop me from getting out for a short walk though.

Currently 12 degrees wet and windy in north east freakishly cold weather for June

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,049 ✭✭✭appledrop

Fair play, no walk for us this morning drove to school, hopefully it will pick up later on so we can get out then.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,182 ✭✭✭pauldry

Absolute Thunderstorm in Sligo at present. Lashing. Hope this is the cra p before the good part of day. After 2 should be OK but roads flooded right now.

A real tropical style downpour here now in Kildare with very strong winds.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 16,967 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

very warm and wet here in Meath, definitely a tropical feel in the air. If only the rain would clear and the sun to pop out it would feel very warm indeed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,330 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

Nice afternoon now. Some broken cloud and a bit of that damned wind but nice overall. East Cork

Yes. It's been raining in Leitrim since last October so that's allowed.

Incorrect. We had sun a few days ago. It was on a morning. Monday if I recall. The local populace remember it well. Songs and poems have been written. Forever known as 'the grand morning so'

    Ha, very good!

I'd say I've been in Leitrim about five times and the weather has been OK each time. I went to see John McGahern's grave in Aughawillan one day and the sun was splitting the rocks. In my head, it was going to be raining.

Beautiful part of the world but I think I'd struggle with the winters.

First 20c of the year in South Laois just a short while ago. It's the second latest twenty Celsius since recordings started in mid-2008 with the honour of latest twenty Celsius falling to 2015 when it took us until June 16th to get there. The earliest twenty was in 2011 when April 10th took the prize.

First actual 20c here in Arklow also of this year today

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,149 ✭✭✭OldRio

I remember watching the coffin pass. Buried next to the mother. Not that far from his birthplace.

Anyhow rain has stopped and the sun is threatening the clouds. It may shine yet

Just got an 'alert' from my Netatmo reporting 21.0c atm in Greystones.

Meanwhile, in Crete, most exciting weather phenomenon in the past couple of days was spotting a lonely cloud! 27c atm. 32c expected tomorrow but there are some showers forecast for the weekend.

    Oak park 21 degrees

Beautiful setting for a graveyard at the top of the hill. I met a member of the Leitrim '94 team there while in the graveyard, may have been the caretaker. He seemed utterly taken aback that I was from Cork, interested in McGahern and knew all about the Connacht final success of '94. In that order. We spoke for over an hour.

Very strange considering the lack of below average temperatures this year so far - reminds me of 2014 in a way which was at least followed by a very decent June and July though both years are quite different from one another. Of course there have been cooler periods like the one we just had or late March/early April. They have been the exception rather than the dominance. Conversely in 2015, below average temperatures were more frequent than above average though not exceptionally so. Took until June 16th in 2015 at Dublin Airport here too. We fell short by 0.1C on May 8th this year with 19.9C. Hourly ob was 19.6C at 1600.

    20.1C at 1700.

Yup. Broke the 20°c mark here in Kildare for the first time this year. 21.2° in fact the high of the day.

Real warmth this evening after an abysmal start..

Today was truly a day of two halves. Unsettled this morning but warm rain and then a very warm afternoon with bags of sunshine. Temperature reached 22C in Dublin and the warmest day of the year so far. Temperatures reached 20 to 21C in many parts of Leinster and the midlands making today the warmest day for many places.

Lights flickering here(Belmullet) and power went off for a while earlier - rough night for mid June!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,049 ✭✭✭appledrop

A beautiful sunny summers morning, but Jaysus the wind is still around.

I didn't get to enjoy weather yesterday evening as only got nice here about 4pm but I'll make up for it today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,086 ✭✭✭KanyeSouthEast

Very gusty in the south east. Sun is in and out plenty of cloud around too. But the most noticeable thing is the wind it’s howling at times. Unfortunately i couldn’t describe it as a beautiful summers morning which for me would be blue skies unbroken sun shine gentle breeze and warm temps. But that’s the thing about weather everyone’s perceptions are different.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,924 ✭✭✭adocholiday

Met Eireann forecasting gusts up to near 70kmph later today for the Rathdrum area which is not insignificant with everything in full leaf. Really sick of the wind now it's been a near constant all month.

Not sure what we are getting in Sligo today. Supposed to be wind and rain but wind and sun so far. Hate wind for running but love it for Strandhill and Mullaghmore as it blows your brains out like a rock concert!!
