I will watch tonight, or at least have it on in the background anyway.

I have a feeling though that I gave up on it early on, in the last few series.

Ah it’s good to be back!

Love the robot first act . Very original and funny

I think it has run its course. Way too much time is allocated to sob stories.

I tend to record it and fast forward everything bar the act and the entire show is about 15-20 mins in total. Even that has become abit of an effort.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,761 ✭✭✭✭RobertKK

I hate these sob story acts even if they are good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,336 ✭✭✭✭km79

What act was he expecting his 3 and 5 year old daughters to do ?

he was in the audience presumably to watch them audition ????

    I dunno …….

Big Brother is returning 2023 . Might switch back to that for my reality tv fix :@

Fingers crossed. I hope it does return. 😁

I am recording BGT and will skip most of the talky bits.

I just don’t agree with final act being on it

Simon clearly got her on for publicity

it goes against the essence of the show for me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,761 ✭✭✭✭RobertKK

    That was a powerful performance.

    I'm on +1

The last girl has an incredible voice.

    Real talent.

Agree 100%, she's fantastic, what a voice....knocked it clean out of the park.......but TOTALLY GOES AGAINST the kinda 'ethos'....the raw idea of the show IMO

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 7,714 Mod ✭✭✭✭HildaOgdenx

Just caught up. Yes, that's a strange one, she is already an established performer. Publicity stunt, by Simon, I guess.

I fast forwarded through most of the talky bits and the ads - not a bad opening night overall.

Back again tonight for the next lot of auditions. 😁

Mundane acts, and the over the top reaction from the judges

'' oh my god, best I've ever seen''

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,336 ✭✭✭✭km79

    Comedian has a good personality

Dog act was very good too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,336 ✭✭✭✭km79

Last singer was basically the name Susan Boyle

    Amazing voice

    Even more amazing eyebrows !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,062 ✭✭✭✭anewme

Not a patch on Susan Boyle. Susan Boyle was a once off, an undiscovered talent, a crazy cat lady with her own issues and a voice that only a person with those issues could have. Real emotion.

This is a manufactured Susan Boyle.

Reminded me of Mariah Carey at the beginning.

Anyone else not even find the comedian guy funny?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,181 ✭✭✭✭iamwhoiam

David Walliams makes it completely unwatchable for me .

I have to catch up yet on last night's.

I liked the young ventriloquist from the first night and the magic act. The really young lads on the scooters will be very disappointed whenever they fail to get further. They were real cute little fellows but so young, not sure how they will cope with leaving.

I fast forwarded the robot and the invisible man or whatever that was, with Amanda on stage.

The dance act Intelligent Minds...'The U.K. - England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales'... not that intelligent imo. 🙄

    Nothing really exciting tonight!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,798 ✭✭✭abff

I watched this on catch up and my first thought after seeing Tom Ball sing was that it really reminded me of Susan Boyle’s audition. I called my wife in to watch the recoding (she hates this kind of show, whereas I’m a karaoke addict and love watching the singers and I tend to fast forward through the other acts) and I told her that I’d seen this singer who really reminded me of someone else. The minute he walked on, she said “Susan Boyle?”.

I think he’s got a great voice and I don’t agree that he’s not a patch on Susan Boyle. Maybe he won’t have the same level of success as Susan Boyle, but I could definitely see him performing in the West End. And I agree that his eyebrows are somewhat amazing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,062 ✭✭✭✭anewme

Ahh I think Im getting confused here. I thought the person was referencing Lauren who sang the greatest showman song Never Enough (she sang last as well) not Tom Ball.

She was like a Mariah Carey (even down to the hair) hence my comment.

He was really brilliant and definitely has a future in the West End.

I'm not a fan at all of that type of act, but that's very sad, poor guy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,761 ✭✭✭✭RobertKK

That was a deserved golden buzzer, don't know how he did it but it was great.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,725 ✭✭✭Kauto0709

That 9 year old signing was amazing! She should have got a golden buzzer!

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 7,714 Mod ✭✭✭✭HildaOgdenx

    Agreed.

Lovely child, as well, and very composed in answering the questions from the judges.

That golden buzzer tonight was not deserved - what a weird mix of rap and piano, didn't work

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,798 ✭✭✭abff

Totally agree. The 9 year old singer was way better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,725 ✭✭✭Kauto0709

    Agree 100%

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,336 ✭✭✭✭km79

Agreed. Not sure where it can go next either unless he has a few more personal songs ……I really like the Korean magic act. I’d say he can go bigger and better and expect him to make the final

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 7,714 Mod ✭✭✭✭HildaOgdenx

I think it was just for popularity sake that got the golden buzzer, bad kid comes good kinda thing.

I always wonder with an act like that, what can they do next time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,870 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

Very boring show tonight - nothing stand out funny or enteraining

I really enjoyed the Handersons! I didn't think the puppet twins were too bad either, didn't feel the buzzers were warrented. I thought the little ballet dancer was overrated. Sure she was cute but the dance was a lot of just kicking her legs around.

I'm enjoying BGT so far, ideal way to switch off from the real world, for me on a Saturday evening.

Some enjoyable acts the last night, Maxwell the opera singer was probably my favourite.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 239 ✭✭Snorlaxx

Usually the comedy acts are cringe to say the least, but this Suzi Wild one is hillarious

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,870 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

Didn't think much of the cancer doctor and they were heaping praise on him just because of his job

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,870 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

Choir, horror/magic and ventriloquist were the only decent acts, the sleight of hand guy was ok but seen better

The rest were dire, opera guy was flat in a lot of places

    Dogs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 239 ✭✭Snorlaxx

Dont think much of Ryland if im honest, he's got the cute factor the same as the young fella lasyt night, but not a winning act I dont think

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,870 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

The kid magician acts are all the same - trick is created by the parent or someone (from other well known tricks) and they just present it usually badly

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,870 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

Dog act was good - shouldn't have given her a mic, took away from the act hearing all the commands

Kudos to the military kids choir for being downright terrible whilst being congratulated as if it was the most amazing performance ever seen on BGT, typical military praise

Ryland good job on buying your tricks from Magic Tricks Online, reminds me of Marc Spelmann - didn't like him either with the cheap tricks

Impressionist was ok but seen better (some of the voices were bad but obviously put a lot work in to it)

Been loads of disability acts on the show with 100x more talent than the Dante guy, dumb ass rap/piano act (better than the first audition tho), dinosaur act was worse than their audition (costumes are good tho) - was there something supposed to be happening??? . Escapology acts bore the arse off me - false sense of peril, soon as the dark stuff started I knew what was happening

Been very disillusioned with this series, some amount of crap passing off as talent, cant believe the stupid rap act got thru instead of the dog act - Simon making a commercial decision there!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13 Treedays

The kid with the rubiks cube, if you pause when he first takes the cube back from Simon you can see it's totally different to the 1 in his hand. When he clicks them together it changes to match the 1 in his hand + all the t-shirts, etc. (Yes I'm sad).

Agree about the escapologist fella, that was boring this time. Fair play to Amanda, the only judge who was honest about it.

I wish they would keep the singing acts to another show (is X-factor still going?). Sad to see so many of them getting through to the final.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,336 ✭✭✭✭km79

They better bring him back ffs

    That was a joke

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,286 ✭✭✭✭mdwexford

The British public never vote for foreign acts.

The Judges always put through disabled people and kids. (Admittedly it’s awkward not to when they are staring at you but still)

The Japanese guy tonight should have gotten through and the Asian card magician the other night should definitely have gotten through as well.

I can’t stand all the singers getting through either. Bores the crap out of me. Royal Variety show, the clue is in the name.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,870 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

Thought the French dance group were alright, the big fella can move considering his size but there was nothing special about them tonight, the young girl singer has a good voice on her, Freaks ok but seen it all before and seemed very short

Quite liked the Dane Bates act even tho I generally hate dance groups

Didn't like Eva at the auditions and liked it less tonight, very hard to understand what she was saying a lot of the time - maybe it was easier to hear her in the hall.

Loved the Dots in the audition but was not great tonight, should have switched something around

The Japanese magician was brilliant - that is what BGT should be all about it

Tom has a great voice but you know he is going nowhere in showbiz, Susan Boyle took that once in a lifetime doesn't look like a winner chance

Keiichi was a far better act than Eva, as above they better bring him back

I miss the times when we had people on the thread during the live show commenting...

I still have to catch up fully on last night. Only really saw the end. Tom the singer is a really nice guy.

Probably has loads of votes/ support through being a teacher.
