Still waiting for my online portal to be set up with Flogas having done the registration on the 17th.

Meanwhile Energia, who I left, sent an email offering a free Google Nest Audio to stay. No mention of a better offer on rates though.

I switched the gas to Flogas on Oct 11th and submitted the actual gas reading to Energia on that day too. In the meantime, the meter reader came along and took another reading on the 16th, which they now have billed me for on top of the 1st reading…

So both suppliers have a finishing and starting reading, and now Energia have a new reading that Flogas should be billing me for. The differential amount of gas is without any discount from Energia as I was out of contract on Oct 11th. A bit sneaky I think… F*ckers..

TBF the switching process can take about 14 days so even though you initiated the switch on Oct 11th, that was never going to be your start date for usage / billing with the new supplier. It takes a few days at least. Nothing underhand from energia there imo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,292 ✭✭✭Buffman

Sounds more like an error, the meter read possibly went to the wrong supplier as the switch was in progress, and triggered an automatic bill from them.

You need to get onto Energia and get them to adjust the bill back to the 11th "switch" reading. You don't owe them for anything after that as you were no longer their customer after that reading.

Otherwise you'll be possibly getting billed by Flo for the same period (11th on) and be billed twice for those few days and it will become extremely messy to correct.

While the switch may take a few days to go through, the one reading you give on switch day is the final reading for old supplier and first reading for new supplier. Otherwise it would be chaos for billing if multiple different readings were being used.

The below is a general 'signature' and not part of any post:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Public transport user? If you're sick of phantom ghost services on the 'official' RTI sources, check bustimes.org for actual 'real' RTI, if it's on their map it actually exists.

Have you received your closing bill? The end reading with Energianwill be the start reading with FloGas. It'll all line up.

I don't see anything "sneaky" here at all. The closing bill may well be a refund (well credit on the account you'll need to claim).

moving to sse this year was the 1st time it didn't just start from the reading i gave when signing up. moved from ei & it took about 4 days, not sure the reason for the hold up.

can see the closing & opening readings on esbn site

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,292 ✭✭✭Buffman

Presumably both opening and closing readings were identical for both suppliers?

With non-smart meters like gas there's obviously no such facility for 'instant' readings so they have to use what you tell them at switching.

In the unusual case above where a meter reader comes along in the middle of the switch, the customer will have to make sure they won't be charged twice for the same usage.

Looks like might have to wait to be trf see below from Flo Gas

Thank you for your recent order with Flogas. We’re currently upgrading our customer systems to serve you better in the months ahead. It’s a big step forward for us and, while we make these improvements, order processing will pause for a short period, from 17th to 27th October.

Any orders affected by the delay will be processed from Tuesday, 28th October, and fulfilled as quickly as possible once our new system is up and running.

Prefer not to wait? You can cancel your order using our online form. Otherwise, no action is needed, we’ll take care of everything once processing resumes.

We know waiting can be frustrating, and we really appreciate your patience and understanding as we make these changes. They’ll help us serve you more efficiently and give you a better experience with Flogas in the future.

If you have any questions for the team, call us on 041 214 9500 or email us at customersupport@flogas .ie.

Looking to change supplier for my parents - was talking to Flogas earlier and the two options were:

    • variable rate (currently ~27c) plus €150 welcome credit
    • fixed rate (~24c)

Their annual usage is ~2800kW so if the variable rate was to remain the same, the 3c difference equates to €84 over the year.

Any opinions on which would be a better offer for them? I'm leaning towards the variable rate option

I've looked at the others and from what I can see, flogas were offering the best deal. Is there someone else I should be looking at?

    Use the comparison sites kilowatt.ie switcher.ie bonkers.ie powertoswitch.ie

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 3,862 ✭✭✭MacDanger

    Yeah, I've already done that.

What I'm looking for are opinions on fixed vs variable unit rate

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,833 ✭✭✭bren2001

Most companies announced a price increase before winter. EI didn't announce anything.

I don't see any suggestion that prices are going to go down in the next 12 months. If they do, it'll be minor. I prefer the guarantee that my electricity/gas bill cannot shoot up and that reassurance is worth €70 over the course of a year to me. (that's also coupled with the fact I hate welcome bonuses, I prefer the discount).

Each to their own, plenty here would say "i'd prefer the €70 difference in my pocket and not theirs"

but when we singed for that fixed rate we were informed that a pass through charge was coming in October so people were aware and it wasn’t a surprise 👍

    The internet isn’t for everyone

Yuno sign up process: I've failed the initial payment 3 times on their side, despite authorising the transaction in the app. I'm not sure what's wrong. It's a complicated and annoying way forward. I hope, it'll be worth the e350 cash back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 823 ✭✭✭Moving2017

are you using a disposable card? They likely won’t allow that as it’s a card for recurring payments that’s required.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,214 ✭✭✭padyjoe

No, it's a debit card, with a current account.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 412 ✭✭user060916

I switched to yuno on Friday. The app still shows no readings even though I've a smart meter - is this normal and it takes a few are to process in the background?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,914 ✭✭✭matchthis

Could someone please let me know the answer to this from experience as getting mixed answers. Am with Energia and in contract aswell as mid billing cycle. If I move to another provider will I still get the discounted for the partial bill I get? I know I'll get the €50 charge, but keep on getting the run around when asking if I'll get mu usual unit rate since breaking contract.

Yes. No issues with my final bill issued (I was only 5 months into Energia contract).

Any one signed up with Yuno using other than Mastercard?
I've encountered a strange problem: app confirmation goes through, then comes up as failed on their side. This is after 4 different cards.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 8,675 ✭✭✭ongarite

What bank? Many of the energy, utility companies have legacy systems that only accept traditional Irish bank accounts, IBAN

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,214 ✭✭✭padyjoe

No, no account or IBAN at play in this case, no direct debit at all! You have to pay by a card first to sign up with Yuno, and after that they will get everything paid by your card. EBS, BOI to name few and 1 more fintech card(all Mastercard), all have failed, after been approved by app SCA.

It's a huge PITA, DD is much easier to set up.

Don't know if this is the place but can anyone tell me where is best place to get solar panels for the best price?

If this is not the place to ask is there a forum to ask this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 8,675 ✭✭✭ongarite

Look for the renewable energy forum

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 412 ✭✭user060916

Strange, I signed up with N26 MasterCard on Friday with no payment issues

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,214 ✭✭✭padyjoe

How did you do it? I'm going through Switcher.ie. This might be the problem.
I've tried 4 different MasterCards, nothing works.

    Thanks!

    Went through switcher.ie as well.

Got a missed phone call, called them back, gave them the card number, got a push notification, approved it and that was that
