How many heatwaves have the tabloids forecasted this spring? And how many have actually happened? And then you have people blaming Met Eireann when the forecast is taken completely out of context by the rags.

We don't get heatwaves in Ireland. The last one which came close was the summer of 1995. To me a heatwave in our part of Europe is several days in a row of nationwide temperatures 30C or more. The best we can do is mid to high twenties with low twenties around the coast and one or 2 stations hitting 30C, usually Mt Dillon or Shannon. The rag papers speaking of heatwaves when the temperatures barely reach 15C during April or early May is just laughable, a bit like during the winter when they make a headline out of artic blasts while in reality it's about 9C with some frontal rain and hill sleet. Absolute nonsense from the usual sources, and they mix the words to make it sound like it is coming from Met Eireann.

As for the coming summer i feel as if we could be in for a few surprises with some rather high temperatures at times, I think the Azores High will be paying us a few visits between mid May and mid September.

After the wet first half of the day it turned out gloriously clear and sunny from the afternoon in Kerry, got up near 17C and the air had a clean visibility that I haven't seen in a while. Lovely over in Killarney this evening walking around in short sleeves. 9.9C now and lots of fog pockets forming and quite dense in parts out here by the coast.

    Pic : Killarney about 20.00

Lovely warm calm evening along the coast, got up to around 19C here near Tralee and currently 12.0C . Looking warm tomorrow for a fair bit of Ireland.

Hot and sunny in North Wicklow.

And quiet as the traffic hasn't started yet.

Since we're in May, is there a Summer 2022 thread ?

We're still in Spring. The summer threads will appear around Monday 30th of May just in time for June, July and August.

Today could be very well mistaken for a mid summer day, easily the warmest day of the year so far with temperatures of 19C or 20C possible in places. From tomorrow temperatures will be more normal or a little below at times with a rather unsettled and showery week to come, however we could start to see temperatures lift up again from next weekend with temperatures of 21 or 22C possible after next weekend if we can get the high pressure positioned perfectly with a gentle south-east wind off the continent. The positioning of next weeks high pressure will be crucial to how warm it gets for us plus we need to keep those Atlantic lows as far away from us as possible.

Absolutely stunning day in Dublin today. Couldn't believe how warm it was even at 10am this morning.

    Bring it on😎

Reached 20C in Meath earlier, bit cooler now but still plenty of hazy sunshine and 19C. Fingers crossed we get at least a whole week of this from next weekend.

So frustrating listening to local radio here - presenter just after saying that Met Eireann have forecast 2 weeks of warm, sunny weather from next week on.....eh, what?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,653 ✭✭✭appledrop

Yea normal Irish weather has resumed, dull and rain on the way here.

I doubt Met Eireann said that, I'd say that presenter is too busy reading more click bait articles from rags like the Mirror.

    Ok, back to rain.

Dirty day. It’s typical ireland a couple of good days and then bang back to this 12 degrees that persistent wind and of course sky down to the ground and rain.

horrible day today, not that wet but it is damp, chilly and very windy. Had to pick up the garden chairs which were blown around the garden.

Blowing a gale here in D5 but supposed to be properly sunny and 16c a bit later, sick of this wind

North Wicklow. Definitely not summer. But a lot better than yesterday. Blustery, sunny spells etc 😁

I'm expecting Laura Ingals to come running towards me with the dog any minute

Days like this wreck my head.

I've had 3 different coats on today.

Needed the raincoat for school run as rained this morning, then needed heavier coat for walk in park as wind picked up and was cold then sun came out + I was roasting!

Luckily for me the trusty buggy can accommodate my coat wardrobe😂

Laura Ingals would now be a YouTube influencer and never leave the house. 😁😁😁

Update: Sunny now north Wicklow, blustery, warm.

    Pity I have to work.

Biblical showers in Leitrim. Slight exaggeration but you get the gist.

Another Autumn like day here in Meath, mostly cloudy with bursts of rain every now and then and fairly windy. Looks unsettled up to Friday and then brief respite this weekend before it turns unsettled again next week.
