The winds of the last 5 days or so has really taken the edge off the temps.

Some pleasant sunshine but by God those winds are cold.

another cloudy and chilly day today. Next 2 weeks will remain cool and mostly cloudy with a chance of a taste of winter during the first week of May if that direct hit artic northerly verifies.

I'm gonna cover all my raised beds with fleece or polythene for the next 3 weeks as nothing is growing.

crazy dry/cold wind weather. Reminds me of 2020 to be honest

Cool first half of the day but pleasant afternoon getting up to 15.3C out by the coast, a bit warmer in town. 9.2C atm, low humidity again today. The cool breeze eased off late afternoon giving a fine evening.

How can anyone stand over the article below? Met Eireann "forecast" a mini heatwave yet the highest temperature mentioned is 16 degrees. Surely someone from Met Eireann should be calling out this rubbish.

16C is no heatwave. A heatwave in April would be 23C+ and we've had those sort of temperatueres before during April. Temperatures over the past week have struggled to reach 12C away from the west coast and we may see mid teens over the next few days before a cold plunge for the start of May, nothing remotely heatwave about any of this. The upper air temperatures are actually below normal for the time of year and this looks like staying with us for at least another week or more.

As for the article, Met Eireann would never call this a heatwave either, this is just the Daily Mirror inserting their own words to make a newsworthy headline.

A heatwave, yeah right it's cold on East Coast especially for the time of year.

As Gonzo said only about 12 degrees most days + when we had that horrible wind felt like about 8 degrees at times.

I think we have only got to max of about 18 degrees anywhere in April and if it remains like that I'm guessing that's a low maximum for April.

No doubt someone will have the the stats for us.

Cool crisp sunny start in Kerry with temperatures rising slowly to a high of 19.1C in my ever increasing sheltered site but getting up to a max of 17.6C according to Meteologix and 17.1C by Meteociel at Shannon and 17C at Kerry airport , very pleasant still at 13.8C . Light broken cloud this evening with some patches of blue sky.

Looking like decent temperatures again in parts tomorrow away from the cooling effect of the E'ly wind, getting up to the mid teens and possibly seeing around 17C again in a few stations.

A sunny afternoon here in South West Dublin although that onshore wind would cut the head off ye

Similar here in Meath, a sunny day but that wind really is bitter and cuts right through you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,192 ✭✭✭KanyeSouthEast

Cloudy most of the day in the south east was a bit of sun this morning for a while. Still no heat of any description to speak of.

Woke up sweating during the night; has been very mild last few days and nights in Cork. No cold there this morning either when I left the house. Hopefully things are starting to change....!

Not in Dublin, felt cold for time of year when I was doing night feed last night, sure enough when I looked it up was 0 degrees at Dublin airport.

Today it's a dull, chilly enough day in Dublin for time of year at 10 degrees.

feeling a bit milder today in Meath but still relatively cool at only 12C, the lack of wind is the main reason it feels a bit milder. The past week has been dry and chilly, hopefully we could finally see temperatures reaching 15C over the next few days. The cold spell for first week of May is now looking less intense with the core of bitter air east of the UK. However it does look like we will turn more unsettled from the weekend with the Atlantic coming back with the first half of May looking increasingly unsettled with temperatures generally between 11 and 15C.

We may have to wait till the second half of May or sometime in June before we see temperatures reaching 20C somewhere in Ireland.

Most days here in my part of Dublin have started off sunny then a cloudier period and sunny for the rest of the afternoon and evening during this spell. Wednesday 20th and Sunday 24th were sunny all day.

In other news, there's an interesting universal signal among seasonal models for a dip in pressure over the Arctic which is very different to the summers of 2007-12 and 2019 or 2020. This would in theory increase the possibility of the Azores high ridging towards Ireland with a lack of arctic blocking to force the jet stream southward. Shame that the seasonal model skill is poor and even more so than usual in summertime over the arctic.

Very fortunate in having such a great run of good weather here in Kerry, up to 15.7C with sunshine all day and becoming mostly clear blue sky this evening. Breeze more from the NW and a bit cool earlier in the day but got lighter towards evening and dropped right off now, out a short time ago at 21.45 and fog forming in the fields. 9.1C

The cold shot of air forecast shifting east. I think Greece deserve to continue their monopoly of cold blasts over the winter.

What is that dry patch in Meath/Cavan? Odd, no?

Well now that there's no chance of breaching 17.6C today at Dublin Airport, it's interesting to note that this is the second year in a row where March had a higher maximum temperature than April.

Also, for the second year in a row, April brought more frosts (8) than any of the winter months (and March too)! The mean minimum temperature of April 2022 is 3.3C, which is a lower average than those of each winter month.

And all this despite the mail and the Mirrors heatwaves this month……
