I guess there's nothing new in Valentine's Day specials in Castle Montrosia, even Gaybo gave a slightly patronising nod and a "hmph" to the whole thing, over the years, as evidenced by this cover from the staff circular, dating back to '81.

This Friday, following a call to arms a couple of weeks ago, Ichabod will be bringing the singletons of Ireland together, free of restrictions, good taste, and humour, to celebrate 14/2/'22.

I don't see the usual blurb up on RTE.ie for this one, so I'll refer to an article from two weeks ago where they were looking for participants.

"Be still our beating hearts, The Late Late Show Valentine's Special is back! Here's how you can be part of the most passionate night on Irish TV.

Calling on singletons and loved-up couples, The Late Late Show Valentine's Special will be taking place on Friday, 11 February and whether you are looking for love or have an extraordinary tale of amore to tell, the The Late Late Show wants to hear from you."

I guess they didn't pay much heed to the twitterati reviews from TWO TWO ONE (cf. Duffoon) then?

In somewhat more gratifying news, the Tommedian (despite seeing a drop in viewers himself) delivered something of a wedgie to a chastened Hobbidy behind the bike sheds last week.

Really looking forward to name checking 'coppers'. My god its funny when Riffin Ryan mentions that people might go to a popular late night venue in the city centre.

I don't even know why I'm supposed to find it funny but I hope he mentions coppers a few times.

He will mention coppers and then we will all laugh maybe even slap the table in front of us and maybe even be lauging so much at the thought of someone going to coppers that we may not even be able finish the sentence we are trying to make for not being able to catch our breath.

I think Tommy Tiernan should watch out as while he is busy outperforming a man whose entire professional life and career has been spent in broadcasting there is a misery merchant with some "coppers" based material that may sneak up and outperform Tommy in the stand up comedy arena!

The blurb about the LLS (in general) says. "The Late Late Show is Ireland's most popular and prestigious television show and is the longest running chat show in the world" - my emphasis

I wonder, has it ever occurred to RTE that alone might be a very good reason to review whether it should become, "the longest running chat show in the world, until it was finally laid to rest in 2022"?

If you just look at the first two on the list (LLS, Graham Norton) it speaks volumes about the content of the LLS by comparison to GN. In fact, you only need to read the caption above....

The Late Late Show is like a car that has been run into the ground and yet they try to keep it going. It's time for it to retire or get a new host who will do something fresh with it and bring it into the 21st century unlike Ryan Tubridy.
