Prior to the whole Ukrainian thing, diesel was ~€1.64⁹

Doubt we'll ever see 1.50⁹ again, not unless the Saudis pump oil to beat the band, the $ crashes, and the € gains.

    Unlikely

finally things gong in favour of the motorist.

Petrol refining margins under $25 and falling

Diesel refining margins still mid $40's but falling slowly

Demand starting to drop around the world especially Asia, refineries pumping out as fast as they can, new refinery capacity coming in stream. Blomberg expect gasoline margins to drop to $15 and diesel to to low $20's - still very profitable.

    Dollar weakening a little

    Oil prices steady.

We'll see petrol circa €1.80 fairly soon. Diesel towards €1.90

We may see Applegreen use their regular July 24th Birthday promo to introduce a big price drop - 24c? Very doable with the refining reductions in the last few days

    It's their 30th year ... So I wouldn't be surprised if fuel was 1.30⁰¢/l.

But in the past they have sold fuel for 24.7¢ , but only at selected stations for a very short period.

197.9 Diesel in Milltown, Co. Galway on July 18th

After the ECB rate hike tomorrow, the eur/usd should improve a bit as well to bring the barrel cost down

Petrol refining margin now down to $19

Diesel refining margin now down to $40

What is going on in Dublin then, gouging? I have not found a single station below the €2 mark for Petrol or Diesel (Dublin 4, 6, 12, 18 or 24). I was in Mayo last weekend and could find plenty of them under that now "magic" number!!!

    Something smells fishy here.....

Gouging is a very emotive term on this thread, probably better to describe it as continuing to make hay even though the clouds have rolled in. We all know that the market determined that it was appropriate for price increases to happen as much as twice a day when prices were on the way up, but of course the market doesn't always work as efficient in reverse.

Guys is there much diff as in quality of fuel between maxol fuel , circle k and certa fuel, the old tesco garages, or is it all a myth? Do many of u just go where its cheapest? And if there is a diff in quality is it bad to mix the fuel as in the good with the bad when u run low, "bad" quality topped up with "good" quality?

Just go for cheapest me ,never noticed any different in the running of cars between them.

Fill up at a reliable station, I choose company operated stations.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 716 ✭✭✭macvin

There is ZERO, absolutely ZERO difference in the base fuel product in any station.

Fuel is refined in an ongoing process 24/7. Tankers get loaded up with whatever is being produced at that minute. Tankers then travel to ports and unload into storage tankers. The "small" tankers that deliver fuels to ports like Dublin can carry about 25 million litres of fuel (the giant supertankers carry 350 million litres)

The only difference is in the additives brand put in at the point of their road tanker being loaded. These additives make little difference and the premium additives are a huge money spinner for garages.

You left out the bit where some stations have their fuel cleaned with kitty litter, and re boiled to get rid of that nasty radioactive marker.

Finally was able to fill at 199.9 in Clarecastle today. first time in a while. Hopefully the stations in the row up towards Ennis follow suit.

Maxol always hold out the longest

Since a new marker Accutrace S10 was added it simply is not economic for laundering marked diesel. And it became less economic when the Duty was reduced.

There's only been one laundering plant found in the last 3 years - previously they were finding one a month or more often.

Tanks of residue which would show laundering has been taking place are not being found these days either whereas previously they were being found almost weekly.

Further drops in refining margins - time for politicians to put pressure on the fuel companies if petrol doesn't drop below €1.80 and diesel circa €1.85 in the next week or so

Anyone filling up should maybe wait till sunday 24th-applegreen's anniversary promotion day(as mentioned on here earlier).👍

They boil out the accuracy marker these days.

Still plenty of it being washed, and the by product of the cat litter is being buried.

    They haven't gone away.

A few months ago, An unmanned station. Not too far from me was selling cheap diesel, conveniently all their receipt printers were malfunctioning.

This station only has one other depot, over 350km away.

I'm not saying it was washed.. but I'm not saying it wasn't.

I'm just saying I wouldn't buy fuel there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,487 ✭✭✭vickers209

    Running now

    9am for 2hrs 47 minutes

    so finishes at 11.47am

    24.7 c off per litre

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 716 ✭✭✭macvin

On the Applegreen offer, a 50 litre fill will save you just over €12

    Is the queuing worth it?

and there should be a 10c+ drop next week anyway. So I won't be bothering

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,390 ✭✭✭UsBus

Lads, am in tramore and the queuing at garages is mental. 176.9 at the Apple green, the two other garages either side of it are matching the price with similar queues.

Was wondering how they could drop their price so far, but if it's only two hours they can do it.

As said about the queuing, hardly worth it but then again it's pissing down here so maybe that's part of it. Irish Summers, can't beat it.....
