Fiesta 2015 failed NCT on broken rear spring - so needs changing.

Looking at the Utube video, it appears to be very easy and well within my capabilities - jack up, remove wheels, undo bolt on shock absorber, pull out spring, replace, and put back as before.

OK, but when looking for replacement spring, I am offered loads of different one, varying from €22 to €89 each - 2 required. Now what is the difference, and does it matter? Is there any implication for the NCT or is tracking required?

Should I go to Ford main dealer for the part? I cannot find genuine Ford parts on line.

Might be useful or a little more safe to have a second jck to support the hub asembly while you undo the shock bolt, but other than that you pretty much have it spot on.

As for the size, it depends. Different models, and years, will have different length coil springs. This is for sports model with sports suspension and standard models, etc. If your existing springs are say 320mm in length and you buy 340 then the car will ride high on the rear and affect handling and ride comfort. Go too low and it'll have the same effect. You really want to keep within the limit of what you have.

If you're completely unsure take one spring off, measure, replace, then order the correct size. Genuine Ford parts are usually only sold by Ford, but you might find some OEM parts from other suppliers, but more than likely if not buying OEM you're looking at aftermarket parts. Eibah, Sachs are my first choice for quality while being on the higher end for cost. Then look to KYB, Kilen, Monroe, QH, for more affordable (while not actually sacrificing quality).

A quick Google check seems to suggest 315 to 320mm for the rear based on it being a 1.0ltr, and 300mm for the 1.6ltr. I haven't checked all variants but it gives you a starting point.

I think it could be done just using a spring compressor - there is no bolt holding the coil in place. Loosening the shock absorber is just to take the compression off the spring.

Should the rubber bit at the top be replaced?

The car is a Fiesta is a Zetec 2015 - 1.25 litre - 82 hp. Where can I find the spring spec?

You don't need a spring compressor for the rear springs. A jack under the wheel hub and let it down slowly is all you need (after the bottom shock bolt is removed). The spring is not compressed once the car is jacked. The shock holds it up a little but once the bolt is removed from the bottom of the shock and the jack lowered the spring will come out to its own, uncompressed, length without the need for spring compressors. In fact you may need to push it down to get the spring out from its "holder".

As for a bolt for the spring, there is none, as I said above its the shock bolt that needs undoing. The only bolt is the shock and you need only take out the bottom bolt, as said above, to allow the wheel hub to drop and the spring to come out. The process is damn near identical on most cars and I've doe this umpteen times on Opels, Ford (Mondeo, Fiesta and Focus), Lexus, Honda, etc.

As for spring length size, its a guessing game unless you know the exact length from searching Ford forums or do as I suggested above and rmeove one to check. I could only find the list of part number(s).

Lastly the rubbers. Replace if they're perished, but otherwise clean, lube and use again. One of my cars is 18 years old I've only replced those once even though I've done the shocks and springs about 8 times combined.

Just done another check on a car parts site (two actually) and it show the average for that model is either 315 or 320 mm. If it has sports suspension then its 290-295mm.

Would Ford be able to tell me te correct spring from the VIN number?

Apparently nearly all Fiestas take the same spring unless they have 'sport' suspension.
