Would anyone have a screenshot of a recent positive pcr test by any chance?

You thinking of faking one from it?! ;)

I am on day 12 - covid flattened me from about day 8.

I am exhausted and my chest is achey.First five days were ok but ut went downhill then.Steroids and antibiotics needed.I never had a temp or struggled for breath or even much of a cough, but honestly I cannot function the last 3 days.It has been an endless bank holiday weekend.Doctor has told me this is normal and it can do this apparently. It needs to shift off quickly, I have had enough!Everything checks out medically for me, been to see a doc and been examined, so it is "just covid".

Only other medical advice given was to drink a LOT of water.

Sorry to hear that Shesty. I wasn’t that bad but it took a good while for me to shake off as well. Certainly more severe than I expected.

I never got it, I never followed the hysteria no constant hand washing, never tested for it and steered clear of the injections.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,166 ✭✭✭Xander10

I wash my hands regularly as good general hygiene practice. I got vaccinated and boosted and avoided it for over two years.

I had mild flu symptoms and friends with a new born baby was about to visit, so out of courtesy, I tested and tested positive. Wasn't ill at all and glad to have the vaccine as a safeguard. And glad, just like a flu etc, I kept clear from the visiting baby.

I don't see any problem with that.

It seems that a lot of people are getting it multiple times now. Immunity seems to prevent hospitalisation but doesn’t prevent repeating bad doses.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 633 ✭✭✭Escapees

Hmmm... Heard someone recently say the same thing. If you didn't test for it, then how do you know you didn't have it?!!! You may have been asymptomatic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,772 ✭✭✭Dakota Dan

The thing is if you believe you’re asymptomatic where do you draw the line with testing? You’d be testing yourself everyday.

Thanks Fits. Not enjoying myself at the moment.I appear fine, and everything checks out ok but I am not capable of much.It is very frustrating to be honest, I am not one for lying around but I have seem to have no other option at the moment.

Agree, but unless you test negative for antibodies, you can't reliably claim that you never got Covid... Note that I'm not trying to start an argument here :)

Shesty . Went through similar with first steroids and inhalers for chest about 5 days post start of Omicron, and then a week later antibiotics for a lingering cough and temperature. Took another week but was recovering from it well by day 21.

Back working that week and no further issues , hopefully that will be you as well . Just don't push too much .

    Get well soon .

Thanks @Goldengirl , good to know.I will be taking it very easy.My biggest challenge is 3 active kids on their Easter holidays - they are at the minder this week and I am off work, as it is impossible to rest enough when they are here.

It does create immunity and reduced reinfection with the other variants of Omicron for at least 3 months it is estimated. . But not 100% .

Also there are other viruses circulating now as well so if not testing or not testing positive this is more likely than reinfection .

I would think the poster that never tested or never took precautions like hand hygiene is not the one to be listening to, on this , tbh .

yes, a very worrying trend. each infection carries additional risk of potentially dangerous sequelae, beyond its own immediate severity. and, of course, it's significantly more contagious than flu.

I was assuming the latter point myself until recently, but been digging around looking at data, and recent trends for re-infections are highly worrying. There also doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for whether a re-infection is more or less severe, regardless of combination of previous infection and various vaccination statuses.

Tested positive on Wednesday. Currently on Doxycycline and steroids. Very wheezy and chesty and generally feeling unwell and restless. Thought I was improving yesterday but I'm much worse today.

5 days being sick now and I've had enough of it.

How long does this usually past from people's experiences?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,649 ✭✭✭✭fits

About two weeks for me but I wasn’t right for a good few weeks after. Grand now though.

Same as Fits here.Don't put a timeline on it in your head, be prepared to feel off for a couple of weeks (although probably not as unwell as you feel now).

General consensus among those I know and myself is the main symptoms can be gone in a couple of weeks but you might have a couple of lingering ones like low energy, achey/shaky legs, maybe a slightly painful or wheezy feeling in your chest, something like those.Give it time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,208 ✭✭✭✭Goldengirl

@Morby Same as fits and shesty . Most people get over Omicron in a few days and just feel a bit tired for a week or two after .

The fact that you need antibiotics and steroids means that your body has had a stronger inflammatory reaction to the virus and will take longer to settle back to normal, which you will btw . This particular strain does not so far appear to be causing Long Covid which is good news as so many have been infected.

Take your time and give yourself a chance to recover . The more you push it the longer it will take . Some people try to get back to normal activity because they feel a bit better , only to end up back in bed feeling miserable .

I was similar to you after getting it at Christmas . And the only one who was really sick in a family full of Covid ! Had steroids followed by antibiotics a week to 2 weeks after infection but essentially ok 3 weeks later , if a bit tired .

The medication will give you a head start getting over it but the inflammatory effects , aches and pains and tiredness , do take a bit longer .

All the usual stuff , rest , plenty of fluids and taking care to eat well are important as well. Mind yourself .

    Good auld Ireland...

    Published:July 27, 2021

    Background

Doxycycline is often used for treating COVID-19 respiratory symptoms in the community despite an absence of evidence from clinical trials to support its use. We aimed to assess the efficacy of doxycycline to treat suspected COVID-19 in the community among people at high risk of adverse outcomes.

    Interpretation

In patients with suspected COVID-19 in the community in the UK, who were at high risk of adverse outcomes, treatment with doxycycline was not associated with clinically meaningful reductions in time to recovery or hospital admissions or deaths related to COVID-19, and should not be used as a routine treatment for COVID-19.

I got it for the first time. Tested positive on an antigen test this afternoon. I’ve felt worse, just a sore throat and a cough so far.

  • Registered Users Posts: 906 ✭✭✭FlubberJones

I'm on about day 9 I think, was super unwell (chest, headache, fatigue and coughing) from about day 2...

My wife was also the same but about a day or two ahead of me, did tests again today and she is clear where I am not.. FFS

I feel a whole lot better, not perfect but definitely improved from the weekend of misery.

Didnt sleep right Tue night, knew by Wed afternoon was coming down with something, went home a little early from work-, went to bed and slept for 2 hours then I had the worst most uncomfortable fever like symptoms for the next 12 hours, started to improve Thur, today like the tail end of a cold, and looking forward to my first hot meal since Tue.

feels funny escaping the fcker for 2 years and getting it now, was at Top Gun in a packed cinema last week so its the only place I can think I picked it up but nice to have a bit of protection going into the winter.

Still not feeling too bad here. My cough has eased down today and I no longer have a sore throat. Just some congestion in my sinuses and blocked eustachian tubes.

  • Registered Users Posts: 906 ✭✭✭FlubberJones

Tested negative on Saturday after ten days of the poxy illness... Still have a head cold feeling today with sore sinus in particular.

Both myself and wife are surprised how long this is taking to clear up, been 14 days for her and 12 for me and still only running at around 75% / 80%

  • Registered Users Posts: 88 ✭✭paul321123

Also tested positive on Saturday, sore joints, very bad sore throat, cough, hight temperature, all have eased by today but still have a bit of a temperature but not too bad, apatite did not go, either did my taste buds, isolating in room but not too bad so far, hope I'm over the worst, people need to understand that this virus is still out there and take precautions when in crouded places, best of luck and speedy recovery to evetybody

My daughter tested positive today (symptoms started Sunday) for the second time in 4 months. Not as bad this time around, just sore throat, stuffy nose and a headache, so hoping for a quick recovery. And that she doesn't pass it on to the rest of us as we are due to go on holiday in a few weeks. She's a teenager, so quite happy to isolate in her room with tv and computer games.

And here we go again.. don’t know why I even bothered to buy tests and do it. I think the whole country has it. Unless you work for the civil service or HsE it makes no difference. If you aren’t paid for sick leave why would you declare? Everyone around us is sick.. the whole country has some bug, then we get fear monger if about Strep A which is no higher than pre pandemic days- not to send child to school etc..

interesting to note though, in comparison to last time I had it, I feel a lot sicker ( heavier cold, cough) and also more feverish, however I was about to through test into bin after 8 minutes and noticed faint T line. Last time it was quick positive…

Hmm, same as @Abbaesque .Test took over 10 mims to appear and was very faint. My face hurts! It's been lurking for a few days I'd say. I only tested because my back and legs were sore yesterday which I thought was weird. My nose is runnier, my body aches and I have a cough, none of which I had last time round.

Hoping it fecks off quickly, I don't want a repeat of the dragged out recovery process that happened to me last time.

  • Registered Users Posts: 43 Abbaesque

Yes started with back pain too.. hope you feel better soon. Great to have it out of was before Christmas!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 214 ✭✭Frankie19

Avoided it for nearly 3 years and tested positive yesterday. Only reason I tested was because my sense of smell went suddenly we were due to visit a newborn and thought it was odd. Line is darker than the control line! No other symptoms other than sense of taste and smell gone and tiredness. No one else in the house has picked it up yet but they all had it back in July.

Glad to get it now than in 2 weeks time but really disappointed to be missing daughter Xmas school play on Wednesday. Chances of a negative test by then are slim.

Tested again yesterday to get a sense was I closer to start or finish - straight up dark red line within seconds.Guess I have a few more days to go so.I won't bother testing again, think I am counting since about last Thursday or so.

Nose is running like mad, headache is peristing although the body aches seem to have gone and I am tired now this afternoon. Hope everyone else feels better soon.

Hope you get better soon, Shesty .

the four of us have the disease for the first time, started with the wife and daughter under the weather with women trouble and a bit of sniffles, then myself being dizzy and lightheaded after doing some work and a few pains and aches. Our other daughter had a bit of a cold from school and so joking on wednesday night daughter said she couldn’t taste the dinner and took the test and was positive. The rest took the test with faint and strong results. From Wednesday night myself and first tested couldn’t sleep for 4 hours of going to bed and some headache and pains in the bones and runny nose. Coming around yesterday and today..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,166 ✭✭✭Xander10

The irony is, if you followed current HSE guidelines, you wouldn't have taken an antigen test and you would be going to your daughter's Xmas play. Odds are, that others attending are unknowingly, positive.

He has a known symptom and you're encouraging him to ignore it?

Yep but glad I did for the sake of the 1 week old newborn.

Had it last week for the second time myself. Tested positive on Saturday the 3rd. I'm not 100% sure on where I picked it up, but I'm pretty confident I picked it up either the previous Tuesday or Wednesday as I had socialised a little on those two days. Started getting a bit congested late Thursday evening, tested negative on Friday but then positive on Saturday. All in all I have to say it was a lot more mild the second time around, and I have been vaccinated three times. The recovery was a hell of a lot quicker too. I was testing negative by Wednesday the 7th, whereas when I had it last year I was still testing positive 10 days after my initial positive test.
