As has been alluded here previously, we will have to be on the button with our passing/off loading game. The slightest mistake and we are under our posts and 7 points down.

There is no such thing as a "poor" NZ team. They can conjure up a score from nothing. Everything will have to go right for us to win this game.

he was excellent both sides of the ball last week. Hopefully that’s what we see today.

whatever way this game goes I dont think our pack will be found wanting, i think our backline isnt as good as theirs but might be able to hold their own with a massive performance and a bit of luck.

One big fear is if we try too hard to repeat the expansiveness and offloading of the japan game it will lead to mistakes and there is no better team to punish you for a mistake, overdo trying to offload or knock on in their 22 and 10 seconds later they are under your posts for 7 points. There is a balance we need to strike between keeping it tight and opening it up.

A big advantage of today is having Luke Pearce in charge, NZ are always better with a SH ref.

If the game was a few hours later the atmosphere could be savage, hopefully it still is!

The great thing about Nz is they always come to play rugby and score, as opposed to SA who come for a wrestle and to kick, so we will have an entertaining game if ultimately i think we don't have a 23 to win this and we will fade over the last 15 mins.

having a tasty punt on Will jordan for first try.

eddie just did a piece in the build up on how we attacked japan, tied in a lot of their defenders etc etc and im fairly sure heaslip rolled his eyes through it all!

They've as many bones in their arse as we have.

    Gwan the lads!

What I really want from this game is for us to show that our attacking structure for the Japan game wasn't a fluke. We won't have nearly as much possession or territory against NZ, but if we some some good continuity play and offloading I'll be happy enough even if we lose by 10-15 points. We show us that we're building towards something.

Lose the gum, lads during our anthem

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 78,809 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

The New Zealand anthem was written by Thomas Bracken, from Clones in Co. Monaghan. They also have two official anthems, GSTQ being the other.

Not a lot of people know that!

    Good start.

Some excellent hands and dummy runs to get behind the New Zealand defence.

Porter with a lot of carries already, no idea why Conan shipped the ball on so early to Conway earlier.

Great pressure, not giving them a breath

I absolutely hate the rule where a tackler can knock a ball loose and be penalised for a knock on. Advantage should go to the tackler

Wrong call. Aki hit the guys arm who knocked it back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,576 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

Excellent pressure from Doris and Furlong to get the error out of Savea.

This is a good start for Ireland although we just reset the scrum there. I hope the nerves are not setting in already. Weakness makes then vulnerable to more attacks later on in the game. They need to keep a good head to hit the ground running.
