The industry here just won’t employ those kind of scouts they only want the wholesome twee indie-lite collegiate types. Some sassy crapper; whatever

Anyone watching the new Time Team episodes on youtube?

I can't remember which episodes exactly but they make quite a big thing about including the metal detectorists.

Wake me up when it's all over.

Interesting point there. I assume the 6 northern counties have the UK law, so are those counties, which would have the same archaeological history as the others on the island, stripped bare of historical artifacts with evidence that important sites have been destroyed?

Edit: just looked it up and they seem to have similar laws to us.

I’d imagine they’re the jobs where the dig companies make hay. But if they want a call when they next major roadworks are going on they have to “play ball”.

I love how people are answering the question I posed back in 2021. Ah boards, never change. Or change back.

And in typical Boards fashion, the answer to your question was already posted about 3 posts above yours, but you still asked it anyway... and round and round we go...

Same here . Tractor pins and especially steeples that have pulled from rotting posts .

not allowing metal detectors is a stupid law . Im sure it’s been mentioned but the Ardragh chalice was found by a man digging for spuds

As I mentioned previously, there is a lot more to archaeology than digging up shiny things to display in a museum.

Google the difference between an antiquarian, who cares more about the object, and an archaeologist, who is more concerned about the context and process.

Government just don't want you to have anything, they want it all. That's why your earnings are classed as adequate income, enough to keep you alive, at work, but not wealthy. You will have nothing and be happy. There's a lot of wealth in the ground and as we were born here and will be laid back into the ground, I think it belongs to all of us.

These laws are just to control any hope or dream we may have, and divert the wealth to mining companies who will clean us out.
