What are your thoughts on the fertiliser price s for 2022

I work for myself and I have Seen a lot of S* ** by big business in the last 18 months. Big global corporations have been manipulating the markets a lot since the start of pandemic and making huge profits by throttling supply of goods. One product we bought a lot of unrelated to agriculture went from €4.39 to 18.60. I just wonder are we going to have an expensive summer

Yara have cut production in Northern Europe by 40%. Prices are going to go up.

Quoted €540 a ton for urea, if you could get it.€380 for can and €480 for cut swd.

I went to four places yesterday. One story longer than the other basically they are holding on to the stocks they have until spring. No one is willing to sell. Do you know anywhere there is protected urea for sale. It’s cheap to move a pallet around the country.

Reducing usage won’t work if your stocked high. You have to keep the grass moving.

It appears that the shortage / price increase is due to a big hike in the price of gas in the UK.

Fertilizer factories have stopped production because it's uneconomic.

This makes no sense that they would stop so fast. How do they know it’s uneconomic? You just pass the price rise on to your customers and they will decide the economics of it. Fert is needed.

More likely the gas they bought may have been forward bought and they can make as much of a margin selling that straight on instead of using it for production. The UK getting them to start up again to have the CO2 for other parts of supply chain may help matters but at a price

What's the process of making liquid fert is it something that can be done here, going to buy a sprayer here for next year and was thinking of trying the above with that in mind

Seen on a British farming forum they had been quoted the equivalent of 580 euro last week for 34.5% nitram, I'd doubt any fertiliser produced their will be exported given what they can get for it in-country

It's the first step to feeding the biologicals.

But you're still not feeding the biologicals. The stepping stone is the sprayer.

And then you really need a big sprayer if you're competing with the fert spreader.

And then it's dependent on the weather whether soil or foliar. And then you need to be careful of not overdoing it with liquid N and poisoning the stock and silage and then damaging the sprayer. Simple dissolve urea though. No protected stuff.

The biologicals will follow on.

A few handfuls going out on the silage ground next year and the rest of the farm will gave to get by with light slurry loads. Here's hoping for an early Spring and good weather.

Drummonds supply it in IBCs. Not too simple to put out. Not just a case of filling the sprayer and going like your spraying off a field. A good bit to it from what I'm slowly learning

Whatever happens with fertilizer prices, it'll be a lot dearer than it is now.

Used a bit this year …v happy with it …contractor supplies and sprays it …only difference on sprayer is different set of nossels for liquid fert v normal sprays
