Thoughts appreciated if you could tear it to pieces.

Have a rough idea of captaincy that's pretty heavy on Salah for the first few and then the back 3 will be TAA, Shaw and one of the three cheap guys with a decent shout of a clean. Ings to Jim after GW3 and after that I'm not sure what other fires I'll need to put out on the way.

Also have 1.0 in the bank to move probably Greenwood to Gundo / Grealish for GW2 with captaincy in mind.

How do you get the five fixtures planner under each player? would make planning transfers much easier.

I think Ive finally confirmed my team:

    GK: Sanchez/Foster

DEF: Tsimikas / Coufal / TAA / Shaw / Dunk

I chose Tsimikas because hes set to start, playing against NOR its a good chance of clean sheet, and hes pretty attacking. TAA doesnt really need explanation, and Coufal because he created a ridiculous number of chances last season, and theyre playing NEW so also good clean sheet chance. Dunk is also great because hes very attacking and scores often but Im benching him because I think having two brighton defensive players may not be the best. Shaw as well, Im not sure if Man Utd will hold a clean sheet. But to prevent extra waste of transfers later, im keeping these two on the bench.

    MID: Raphinha / Saka / Bruno (VC) / Barnes / Salah (C)

Salah, Bruno and Raph are pretty self explanatory. Ive chosen Saka specifically because its against Brentford in GW1, I think there will be arsenal goals because brentford has really bad defence, and Saka is likely to be linked with them. But I intend to swap Saka with Buendia in GW2. Barnes played really well in the pre-season, and against a Wolves defence, he could get points.

FWD: Antonio / Ings / Obafemi

Antonio and Ings also explained very often by others, so I wont go into it. I chose Obafemi because he was the best option for a cheap 4.5m, ofcourse he'll be the last one on my bench.

Now, my biggest dilemma here is really about benching either Shaw or Raphinha. For now Im benching Shaw because Im expecting goals from both teams, so I dont think there'll be any clean sheets for Shaw. But still, Im not sure. I cant even be sure that Raphinha can score against Utd. Its a dilemma for sure.

    Any thoughts?

Pretty good team, just some small changes I would make. Id sell Vardy, too expensive. You could downgrade him to Antonio or Iheanacho ( I suggest Antonio) and then you have 3m to upgrade maybe one of your defenders to TAA or maybe even Benrahma to a Mahrez.

Have you done any planning on who youre going to sell to get to Lukaku at 11.5m? Was thinking about it myself earlier and wondering is it better to build a GW1 team that has 2m or 3m in the bank so getting him can be done in a single transfer without selling other big players like Bruno/Salah. My current draft only has 0.5m in the bank which would mean using 2 free transfers to get to Lukaku

Currently on the following with 4 mill in the bank.

Debating Barnes to Grealish/Mahrez. Obviously going without Bruno and could make some changes to get him in.

Traore is a punt and have Ings but the first three Villa fixtures are great and can switch him out for Raphina or similar if it goes wrong.

Jota the other one I’m questioning a bit but he should start the first few games I hope.

As the first game of the GW is Friday, I'd guess that all players would have to be registered by Thursday at the latest in order to play. Was he registered Thursday? Might not have been.

My latest attempt at drafting a team - any feedback? There's 0.5m left in the bank with this team. I'm happy to leave it in the bank to help get to other players over the coming weeks if there's no obvious improvement that would add more value.

    image.png

    *Other Considerations*

    • With Tsimikas - I will just see how much I get out of him for the first few rounds and when Robertson's back review options
    • I don't expect Jota to be a regular starter as the season progresses but think he's starting for the first few weeks so I'm likely to switch him to Barnes as the season progresses.
    • I expect to bring in Bamford for one of Antonio or Ings when fixtures improve for Leeds.
    • These are just current thoughts - all subject to change based on injuries/form/suspensions/covid etc...

Just to keep in mind, you may need to replace Obafemi at some point in the near future. Blackburn looking at buying him as well as other clubs outside the top flight and his position by no means guaranteed with Southampton having brought in 2 others strikers, Armstrong and Borja. I've got Armstrong at the moment. He did great stuff for us at Rovers last season ... but then I thought the same about Super Jordan Rhodes and that sadly didnt work out to well for him in the Prem :(

This is my team at the moment,

    GK: Martínez/Sanchez

    DEF: Dias/ Coufal / Tsimikas / Bednarek / Lowton

    MID: Bruno (C) / Soucek /Traoré / Gündogan / Dallas

    FWD: Ings / Vardy(VC) / Toney

    Left with 4m ITB

Currently on this team. Planning to get the Bench Boost out of the way this GW and also expecting an early WC once we see how certain teams are starting, bring in Lukaku and/or Kane, etc:

    Sanchez (Bachmann)

TAA - Shaw - Digne - Tsimikas (White)

    Salah (C) - Bruno - Barnes (Benrahma - Brownhill)

    Ings - Antonio - Toney

    Well, it's something different anyway.

Use that 4m in the bank to work Salah in there. Ditch Bednarek too, the saints defence is poor and about to get worse. Dallas is not a great option in midfield, last year he scored highly as an attacking defender.

What are people's thoughts on Matt Doherty now that he's back with Nuno? I wonder will we see him rediscover some of his Wolves form?

Would love to see it and will be keeping an eye on him, but don't see much merit in getting him in now given their first game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,424 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

I had Lampty but he's been ruled out until September so need to move onto someone else.

I'll be playing 3 at the back this week so Doherty can sit this one out.

I had a look back on his comments, you might be right. His comments was that "It will take him a few more weeks to reach my top fitness levels". I take that as he'll have a few 30 minute cameos to build things back up (he played 45 preseason V Everton). But it might be him saying that he's ready to go but will need a few weeks until touch is 100%

Everybody seems to have the same forwards and so do I, but it makes me want to mix it up a bit for the craic/to get an edge.

Think this is it now. Decent team for week 1. Very good team for week 2. Bring in Son and 4.5 mill defender for TAA and Greenwood week 3 and then wildcard week 4 is the plan

I think this is a fairly template team, no real surprises

Tsimikas, Mahrez & Front 3 are fairly risky picks but I think wildcarding when the transfer window closes is a likely decision

It is a nice team, and potential to do great but

    • Will Stones play? Missed the Charity Shield?
    • Its IheanachNO for me, too much uncertainty about Leicester at the moment, as so much attacking options (that said have Barnes myself)
    • Two 4m defs is too much for me, unless you are happy playing White every week from 4 onwards (which you might well be?)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,395 ✭✭✭nullObjects

Could look at it the other way, even a couple of differences is enough of a differential to be a few 100 thousand places in rank

You dont want to be in the millions after one week!

Cant help feel but for every forward there is a better option in midfield at the same price point
