It was very important to get the win but I think when we all seen the clare team compared to ours anything other than a win would of being very disappointing. It was the 3rd week in a row kk were very slow to start and something they won't get away with against cork and Limerick.Wexford and galway were red raw useless at the weekend. I just think lyng was afraid of his shite again last Sunday by not playing moylan and these lads. We know what all them starters have to offer. Kk have to find players,he won't find them on the bench.its very noticeable we have no foward coach or poor coaching because the movement up top is shocking. This has being going on years and beggars believe how they haven't brought in anyone.

Mossy Keoghan will have bad days as well as good days but you will always get 100% effort from him whether for club or county. An example for everyone

Think you are the one getting carried away. We won in Ennis for the first time in around 20 years, dreadful conditions and yes Clare were understrength. We need to stay in division one and it was a game we needed to win. With regards to Billy Drennan I don't disagree his performance last Sunday was disappointing and maybe he shouldn't be there. However, your disregard of the loss the chap suffered is to say the least disrespectful. I was personally unaware his Grandmother had passed during the week and fair play to him for turning out regardless.

Clare definitely weren’t at full strength but they have a very strong panel and were still a very strong Clare team playing at home in a ground where we don’t have a good record.

You’d think by reading this thread that Kilkenny started the game with two or three extra players or something, Clare had fifteen very good hurlers on the field and were seven points up at one stage so our lads showed a bit of moxy to dig out the win.

Obviously there’s bigger tests ahead and we still have a bit to do and a few positions are up for grabs but there was still a lot of positives to take from the game.

Billy Drennan lost his 2 grannys in 10 days and the comments posted here about him are disgusting and shame on you all. Also, just to note he scored 2-7 against Offaly the week before. I was at the game and the runs he made and balls he caught out of the air were fantastic. He is 21 years of age and I just hope that he isn't reading the comments posted here. You talk about his confidence..Well let me tell you, this forum would NOT give confidence to anyone. Talk about followers of the game…this is the most negative forum that I have ever looked at and frankly the majority of you haven't a clue. Yes, he isn't the fastest but the passes he gives for the most part results in a score for Kk and maybe when you are fed up discussing Billy Drennan, you might go back and watch the game and talk about the other 5 kk hurlers who mis-passed the ball to Clare hurlers which resulted in scores for Clare.

There was more all ireland medals in the Clare team than the Kilkenny team. And I’m not just counting last year. Come to think of it there was more all Ireland medals in the Kilkenny commentary box then there was on the team.

Billy drennan was the great hope a few years ago after the u20,had a good league with the seniors but had a terrible league final with plenty of others. He is on the panel 2 or 3 years it's time for him to be making a impression. The standards are very high. Anyone that puts on a county Jersey let it be right or wrong are open to criticism ,if lads aren't able for criticism they shouldn't be in there. Its up to billy to prove the doubters wrong.Ya hear the very same talk at the matches.kk people want players like billy drennan to make the breakthrough because they are crying out for fowards but the bottom line is he has being poor for his club and poor for kk.

I was pretty positive after the result Sunday, few good performances from new faces. A lot to work on and nothing to get carried away about, but pretty nice to get a result in Ennis for once. Then I read this thread and realised I was wrong to think that way and we're supposed to be miserable and giving out at all times.

Come off it now.No one has said anything disgusting or had a personal go at him they have only spoken about his performance on the pitch over the last couple of seasons

I was up In Offaly myself and I was well impressed with Billy along with the 2-07 he set op another two goals. Also the other Billy came on in those two challenge matches and played extremely well and as I posted last week I thought he shouldn’t have starting him it’s all about confidence building in my opinion. And we are all entitled to our opinions but not to absolutely slate players.

Completely agree. Yes he had a very poor game on Sunday but he has just lost both his grannies and had a tough couple of weeks. As others have said he played well the week before and we’ve seen that he’s a great hurler but definitely does lack pace and confidence

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,601 ✭✭✭Village87

Does he do much hurling on his right hand side ? Look i do like the look of him, he could become something similar to Gillane if we harness him properly. But it is a hard one for management, if he does not perform and he keeps playing it does unsettle morale in the group.

On another note how old was Gillane when he took Deegan to the cleaners in Thurles in that All Ireland QF, he was outstanding, scored 3/4 points from play and missed 3 goals. I think Billy Drennan has all the attributes to be a similar player

The default setting for most lads on here is negativity even when we win

They seem happier when we lose

No patience in regards to younger players developing or making mistakes just criticism

There is no problem with criticism. We all have to be open to it. I wasn't aware that he had suffered bereavements and my sympathies go to him and his family on their collective losses. However, unfortunately, that doesn't exempt him from criticism of his performance last Sunday or other days. What should have happened last Sunday is management left him off the squad and picked him for the Galway game instead. My problem is that he has gotten a lot of chances, his workrate is really poor (as evidenced especially by his performance v Freshford) and he is completely one sided. I wonder how he gets so many chances when there are a huge number of better and harder working forwards out there who never get a chance. It isn't a personal criticism, it's a criticism of his performances.

I, for one, am certainly not happier when we lose. I don't go to every single Kilkenny game all over the country hoping they lose. That would be just stupid. Posters should be able to identify areas of possible improvement without being labelled as negative.

Fair play for saying that. Some of the comments here are insensitive to say the least. After all it wasn't Billy drennans fault kilkenny were 9-2 down after 15 minutes. He also wasn't marking Conroy or reidy as they waltzed past kilkenny defenders. Those defenders are great players for us but not invincible either.

I haven't posted here for more than six months as I realised that too many regular posters were way too negative and insulting to other posters, players and management.

I'll say what I have to say and then I'm gone from this site for good.

I was in Ennis and was at the challenge matches and came away from them feeling positive. Clearly some posters don't realise that Lyng has shaken things up with bringing in a few new selectors/coach and s&c people. It's early days yet but I for one have seen a change in our style of play and warm ups. Obviously some haven't as it was plain to be seen in Ennis last Sunday, perhaps not so on tv! Contrary to what some posters stated, we did create plenty of one on ones, our puckouts were very good and some excellent diagonal deliveries to the forwards. There were many positives from goalkeeper to 15.

I felt Billy Drennan was doing what was asked of him when it came to letting off the ball and it worked to some degree. It's eary days yet. He recovered from missing those early frees which weren't easy in the conditions. Although his two strikes near the end were disappointing I'm glad he was left on as he needs the game time. I'll hold my opinion on him until I see our game plan developing and see if he, and the other forwards, are capable of implementing it.

Lyng picked a very good balanced team for Ennis. While it was important to try out new players the win was as important and we were successful on both counts.

Some posters wanted more new players started and felt we knew enough about the regular lads. It was just as well Lyng started Mossy!!!! In addition, since we do have a new coach etc all the players, new and regular, need the opportunity to adapt.

Some posters here need to be less miserable and to enjoy any success we may get. We still have to put up with apologising for winning the under 20 All Ireland Final, Leinster finals, club finals (the Cork teams are number 40 club down there or such like).

Thankfully, away from this site, Kilkenny supporters are more understanding and clued in.

Enjoy being miserable if ye want but it's unhealthy.

I have no issue with criticism of players every player is fair game here I just think that instead of posting about the positives of the teams performance first it’s always straight to the negative side of things

Going in on younger players and the attitude towards the Kerry man playing for Kilkenny was over the top imo

Leinster colleges final was a dinger today but for those **** penalties. Great hurlers on both sides CBS had a young tea and they can be proud of their performance.

Listened to KCLR's commentary while "working." Oisin Langan did a great job but Michael Walsh kinda spoiled it shouting over Oisin saying "chance....he's in....sorry for my bias toward CBS." Glad CBS are still in the all Ireland series.

Patrick Lacey a cracking hurler. Some unreal points out of him and O Donovan today.

Lacey, O Donovan, Henderson on the CBS side and Mullen, Lauhoff (who didn't exactly dominate today) and Manogue on the Kierans side the stand outs talent wise. Thought Conor Brophy was really good on Scanlon as well. Kierans wasting Mullen at 6 but presume they don't think they have anyone else. I think they subbed 5 of their front 8 today with only Deely, Lauhoff and Manogue lasting the first 50 minutes.

Plenty of talented hurlers on display other than the ones listed above. Josh Dowling etc
