Freshford down by a point playing into a heavy enough wind. Playing short a game around the backs and in midfield to avoid the the wind, but probably overdoing it a bit at times. A lot of wides hit as well. Freshford look a bit more dangerous going forward and around the goal but CLM are ticking away fairly nicely. It’ll be interesting to see how the second half starts

    Well done to St. Lachtains.

Congratulations to Freshford. Hard fought victory, they’re the special ones to win. Probably rode their luck near the end, but in fairness hit the crossbar in the first half and had a couple of other goal opportunities. CLM very well drilled and serious physicality. They had a man isolated near the edge of the square who always looked dangerous when the ball was fed in.

To be fair, it looked as if the conditions did have a serious bearing on how the game panned out and its quality. But for whatever it lacked in quality in made up for in terms of intensity

Good win for Freshford against a good team with big crowd behind them.

Probably could have won by more if they took their points instead of trying to work a goal everytime. They could have had about 5 more points. Thought they were very unlucky with the last two frees which were very harsh and then ref didn't give the free for the push in the back which should have been given. But they got the bit of luck and well done to them.

Well that was a sickener to lose. Credit to Lachtain's, they responded to the concession of the second goal well and were just that little bit slicker with their stickwork.

Thought Mellows edged it with their work-rate, physicality and running game (Lachtain's didn't appear to like being ran at all) but when we had the period of dominance at the start of the second half, our final ball was atrotious. Virtually every attack floundered.

Great game to watch though, and best of luck to Lachtain's away in Ballinasloe next weekend.

The difference in stick work really was the difference in the end. When SL were down 4 points half way through the second half, they hit 2 or 3 great points to pull back into. Their winning goal was a carbon copy of some of their previous chances where they were able to run directly at the back line off a pass or breaking ball. Except they managed to bury this chance. That’s been the difference all year with SL, they have forwards who have that bit of class. CLM showed they can be vulnerable at the back, but didn’t have to finishing quality to finish them. It must’ve been a nightmare playing into that wind, trying to convert any chance was always going to be difficult. That last free looked over all the way, and then dropped short out of nowhere. Unluckyily short

No St Catherines who Tullogher beat in the final beat Easkey by a point in the semi. Thay narrowly lost an All Ireland final a few years ago.

Sorry Ballygiblin of Cork beat them by 8 points, for some reason I thought it was tighter

Any news from the county board AGM tonight?

Michael Donohoe made a few big calls dropping g mac,Joe cooney and aidan toughy. G mac legs looked gone this year so it's unlikely he was going to get any faster. I would of thought Joe cooney had more to offer. Big rebuild on in galway but Donohoe is the right man.

I agree with people saying here that if tipp and Limerick can name their panels why can't kk. Theres no big secret. What we do know is a few lads turned down invitations. Paul Cody and Eddie donnelly which is a shame because both definitely would of being worth a look. We know daragh corcoran, delaney and clifford and the other few that were mentioned here have being dropped and a number of u20s called in.its unlikely any of them will make the breakthrough next year but as mentioned here loads of times lyng has to be brave. He hasn't got the older lads to fall back anyway so he will have no other choice. The kk team is gone stale and predictable. Its absolutely vital we find a 6. The big thing over the last few years is forwards that we arent producing skill full forwards like we always did. Yes the game has changed its being a while since a young forward got us excited. The coaching has being poor and this was evident on the big days. No plan whatsoever and very predictable, some braindead hurling at times practically the Carlow match. Peter o Donovan is very poor by all accounts so hopefully noel Doherty gets the full reigns. I don't know much about decky Wall maybe forchange might fill us in. It can only be better than next year because we had our s&c doing all the coaching aswell. Nothing against Comerford but conor phelan was suppose to be the coach yet he done very little. Its a poor setup unfortunately and definitely wouldn't get you excited.

Well done to Freshford, lucky enough in the end. Castletown unlucky not to get a free to level it although their free taker missed a few. Freshford will need to tap over the points and keep the score board ticking instead of always looking for goal. Brian Kennedy rolled back the years with another excellent display. He is a very intelligent hurler. He was unlucky to come on the scene when kk were so successful. James maher will be a injury concern going into next week. They will need to be tuned in because I think they have 12 or 13 on the sligo panel.

I watched a bit of it back on Clubber. Freshford do not look to be very fit for some reason.

Yeah Brian Kennedy is a smashing hurler, i do remember he got a few chances with Kilkenny and started against Offaly in championship one year and had a nightmare and that was the end of him unfortunately, back then lads needed to take there chances. The same happened young Kenny from the Boro down in Clare.

I believe Brian Kennedy is unavailable for Freshford this weekend due to his honeymoon

that’s a great start to next year no change at the top in the county board. We **** deserve what we get.

You must have been in there to claim to know as much as you suggest. Somebody has a serious grudge and is being blinded to reality. I know nothing of Donovan but to suggest Conor Phelan, Mick Rice and Peter Barry along with Lyng would oversee what you suggest is plain childish. On a day two of our better forwards, Cody and Mullen misfired we lost to the AI Champions in the semi by two points. The carlow game you keep referring to was the one management experimented and we know how that went.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 313 ✭✭jamesbond2022

I think lyng and that u20 management team really haven’t been helped rightly or wrongly by nun of thoose main players on the u20 team making the beak through to take spots on the senior team

Whether it’s there not showing up in training to warrant a start or being held back the old guard of Cody’s team or lyng being to conservative its hard to know it just feels that management team really hasn’t made the team or panel there own for whatever reason and that’s why there open to criticism

When a team is winning and going well you never hear the above kind of chat it’s only when a team is not going well this lad is useless that lads drills are sh*t etc

Is James Meagher out for Freshford too?
