13 points Marooned and I'd doubt very much if that chap will be anywhere near the minor panel again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,286 ✭✭✭Marrooned

well Comerman my personal score keeper rang me to tell me “tell that comerman it was 15 pts “ I can’t really go against him. Well what did you think of Alec Kerr? And I suppose some comer lads are young whereas most of the village lads are up to the age. We will certainly be up against it in the final.

these **** penalties. Who the **** is in charge?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,540 ✭✭✭Comerman

I do apologise Marooned it was 15 😳 Alec had a very good game alright, typical comer team though, all backs and no forwards. Young Scanlon was some handful too. The final should be a cracker

Lisdowney edged past St. Martins. Full back and centre back from Lisdowney both went off injured within about a minute of each other in the first half and they also lost a corner forward to injury in the first half. Recovered well from injuries and loss of a goal to lead by 4 at half time.

I think Lisdowney were leading 18 to 1-7 almost halfway through second half and looked like they were going to win comfortably. Muckalee got the next 7 points to bring it back to 1. Lisdowney got two points to push the lead out to 3. Muckalee did create a goal chance close to the end not sure if defender scrambled back or goalkeeper saved.

Lisdowney got a tough game in but will have to improve a lot to beat mooncoin. They are strong in the backs and midfield but would have reservations about their forwards ability to win the ball and get scores, they went about 15 minutes without a score in the second half. Pat O’ Carroll transferring back is a big addition.

A solid disgrace, especially as there is an opening to play a replay this weekend.

Those two lads on the KCLR Score line podcast weren't happy with a number of comments made on this thread.😂😂

They'll be alright. If you enlist you must soldier

They bite down hard on the few comments here last week 🤣🤣🤣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 192 ✭✭kentu

Well no offence intended but their talk about the Intermediate and Junior last week on the Podcast was a disgrace, talked over games like they were practice matches nearly, no real proper insight put over the games.

Scally knows himself how tough the Junior to win is So I thought the competitions warranted more chat about it.

After seeing Paul Hennebry a number of times over the last few years it beggars belief he wasn't involved in the County team over last few years and when he was involved this year was cast aside very quickly, has much more to offer than some current panellists in my opinion (And no I'm not from his club).

Richie Reid as he has done for the past decade showed his true worth against the Village last week in a game that mattered. Michael Carey likewise yesterday. Haven't seen any better than those two plus David Blanchfield so far this year.

Richie Reid is a lovey loose ball hurler but is not a centre back for inter county level great club hurler but not for inter county

I have to laugh when commentators wax lyrical about how great a distributor he is yes he gets on a lot of ball and possession because he’s usually a free man

But every ball he gets is launched into the clouds a lot of times without even looking it’s never a short stick pass to a free man or a low ball that favours a forward making a run

He’s also not physical enough for inter county level if you compare him to say tadhg de burca who is very physical and an animal in the tackle

Not the 1st time, Scally got pissed off at me earlier this year because I corrected a few porkies he was telling, my own advice to him would be to self reflect and I think why the **** does he care so much about remarks on an anonymous forum.

Richie Reid at intercounty level is a mile off. No physicality, no pace and is pushed aside when it comes to the big matches . Micheal Carey has been average at best for club, are you really judging him and a few matches against Black and Whites ? I watched him against Fenians and Tullogher and he was not standing out.
David Blanchfield is a magnificent player.

Very harsh on Richie. I was referring to him as a club player where he has been in the top half dozen in this county for the past decade and always comes good when it matters in the championship. Intercounty wise I have no doubt he has been good enough, just not at 6. Unlike Tadhg De Burca and Waterford, Kilkenny have never set up with a sweeper, so the comparison is not like with like.

"A mile off intercounty", you set a very high standard for some. I have said my piece about Richie Reid. With regards to Michael Carey are you judging him on two league matches ? I attended the Tullogher game ,a drab enough affair where nobody stood out. Against the Rower last year and Skeough this year both championship he was outstanding. I hope you are not going to target him in the same manner as you have done to Paddy Deegan and Conor Fogarty over the years. Stalwarts of club and county, nothing less.

It’s not harsh I’ve seen enough kk matches to say he’s not an inter county 6

Centre backs need to be physical initiate contact hold up a man coming through hold the middle that part of the game hasn’t changed he’s well able to get forward and take a score which any one in the half back line need to be able to do now

Time and time again Ive seen players run at him and instead of showing them towards the sideline or make contact or try wrap a player up he lets them inside and there in behind

Look at how physical John Conlon is at cb backs need to be aggressive and Richie just doesn’t have defensive instincts to play center back

As I said he’s a lovely hurler at club level has played half forward midfield half back on goal for the shamrocks and made the club team of the year several times but not up to it for inter county

Kilkenny have not won an Al Ireland in 9 years. These lads have been in central positions. Not rocket science, they have not been good enough. They have had some great players around them during this time. TJ, Eoin Murphy, Lawlor, P Walsh, Mullen, Fennelly etc. Just unfortunately not good enough. That is my opinion on them, if some people are offended well that's tough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 92 ✭✭Hurlingtothebone

What was said about them was correct. There coverage of the Intermediate and Junior grades is practically non existent. There is never a team of the week for junior or Intermediate obviously in their eyes those players dont warrant that. Scally is completely biased for and against teams. Mind you the other podcast with the u20 manager is not much better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 92 ✭✭Hurlingtothebone

And you are fully entitled to your opinion. I'm just wondering if it's time we all starting talking about the quality of the management rather than the players. I have my doubts about Derek Lyng and what has Peter Donovan ever done to warrant his position as coach? They seem incapable of making tough decisions on the line when those decisions need to be taken. Posters often mention club players that they feel are going well and continually play well for their club but they never get a look in and if they do its for a very short time. Surely the people in charge can see some or all of what people see on this forum.

Another question how many players in recent years have dropped themselves off panels not just senior include u20 and minor but maybe not so much minor because they are raw and haven't see maybe what others have. Why would players who have given so much of their time just walk away? Wouldn't you love to know.

And just one more thing alot can also be said about the quality of the minor and u20 management aswell but I could be here all day if I started on them.

Apologies if I sound very negative but I am not finding much to be positive about.

Just going back to the penalties, do you think the fixtures committee are too lazy to organise a replay. In my humble opinion I think the two teams should walk off the pitch and leave it to them, that would certainly put the cat among the pidgeons

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,286 ✭✭✭Marrooned

I think you’re spot on.two years ago Bill Sheehan got a run in the Walsh cup against Laois in Rathdowney in January on a ploughed field. And didn’t get another run, he was carried for a while and then pulled himself off the panel as did Tom Kenny. On the new selectors was there any picked yet, it wouldn’t surprise me if there was a lack of volunteers

Yes a very good club hurler. What age is he next year ? 27/28? Probably a bit late now as takes couple of years investment and experience to get him to the level required. Should be on the panel a number of years now. If he was from Comer, Emeralds or part of the Kieran's click he would have got a chance a long time ago
