It doesn't take from the film too badly and everything else is damn near perfect. But still, how the hell did that happen? I know O'Neal was hot stuff on the back of 'Paper Moon', but really.

The supporting cast all tear him apart, even the minor roles, although I do think he does well with respect to Redmond Barry's personality (he's a bit of a knob).

Now that you mention it, Bogdonovich is a great director, and archivist, like Scorcese.

Paper Moon is my all time favorite. It doesn't try to impress with fancy shmancy shide, the director, and his then wife, production designer Polly Platt did a superb job of getting everything right. It remains one of the most compelling illustrations of the art of storytelling in Filmmaking.

As Martin Scorcese goes, I really like his Raging Bull. It's a very strong piece of work.

Kubrick is way up there. So much variety, he would obsess over a topic, and bring it to life on his own masterful terms.

That's not really what I am doing or intend to do.

I just used the term "enjoyable", in a rather facetious manner, because both movies are a serious and in a number of ways a tough watch. Although there's actually more visceral nastiness in 'Casino' than there is in 'Schindler's List', even if the latter movie has more umph in its subject matter.

And nowhere did I even suggest that one should. The thing is, when it comes to moves about the war in general, they tend to leave me relatively unsatisfied and Hollywood's obsession with the holocaust is no different. So, I am probably the worst person to sit down to anything about the war, because I'll tend to pick it apart as opposed to just simply watching the story.

Of course, but why would that be a reason to kill a conversation or an "argument"?

    And that's perfectly fine.

Wasn't starting an argument, i use the word in the debating sense.

Lets keep this discussion going and be civil to each other.

One director not mentioned yet is Michael Mann (maybe he was, perhaps I missed it).

Last of the Mohicans is one of my favorite movies, love it.

Heat, probably my all time favorite movie and one I've watched countless times. The last really decent film De Niro was involved in, the real De Niro. Dark, complex, gritty, realistic and unforgiving. Went on to inspire many more movies and video games. The cinematography is incredible and the shoot out scene was an achievement in itself.

He's had a few turkeys since though, Miami Vice was a giant turd.

But he's not the "greatest" of all time.

Mann’s greatest movie is…. Manhunter…. It has a dreamlike quality to it… plus a tangerine dream score

I’m watching The Lost World: Jurassic Park with the kids. Holy Christ, it’s awful.

I even went to imdb to check if Spielberg actually directed it. Jurassic Park wasn’t great, but entertaining. This thing is horrendous.

I don’t know. How many dinosaurs are extra?

I’m finished it now. I think it’s the worst Spielberg film I’ve ever seen. I’ve committed to watching the whole series, I’m dreading the next one now.

If there's a single weakness to 'Barry Lyndon', it's Ryan O'Neil. How he got the gig I'll never know. Although he grates on you less and less as the movie plays out.

I watched Love Story on Netflix and I can’t get over how ropey the acting is. From both O’Neal and MacGraw.
