Another nice little tester straight after the rest day!

A slightly odd stage on paper, pretty much downhill for the first 50km, straight into a Cat 3 which is 3km @ 9%, then another 30km of descent onto a 50km or so stretch of flat road before the 2 Cat 1's, 14.8km @ 7.6% and 11.5km @ 9.6%.

It looks like both of those last 2 climbs have steeper ramps though, with the last one keeping a nice 12%+ bite right until the end.

Bernal to demolish the field in awe-inspiring fashion? The bookies seem to think so...

    Odds from Bet365
    Egan Bernal 10/3
    Antonio Pedrero 12/1
    Dan Martin 14/1
    Davide Formolo 16/1
    Guilio Ciccone 16/1

Campenaerts was a non starter today, had an injury to his leg from the other day I think.

Dan trying to get into the break

Looks like the peloton are finally happy with the breakaway

    EDIT - Nope!!

EDIT #2 - peloton blocking the road again

EDIT #3 - Attackers out of the peloton again :pac

Kelly sounds in good form today. A lot more lively and talkative.

Delighted to see him win the other day, he's been so aggressive in recent times that it really felt like he'd earned it.

Dan Martin as part of the break. A couple of decent climbers like Moscon with him

Free ride for Ineos so hopefully they stay away. Bike exchange doing the work in the peleton

Theyre gonna need a lot more than 4 minutes at the base of the first climb

Dan looks in good form but Bike Exchange are putting pay to his chances of contesting for the stage victory.

Bernal down to 2, Caruso on his own

This climb is on rouvy, for anyone who is interested!

    Did it over Christmas, killer.

For late readers, Passo San Valentino.

    Dan looks in good form

He's working his arse off in this break anyway, very few contributors to the break despite the gap reducing :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,507 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

I'm mostly listening to the TV commentary rather than watching, but it seems like Dan & Moscon are doing the majority of the work in the breakaway?

The 2 of them appear to have dropped the rest

Whatever about how the stage plays out it's great to see such aggression from Dan. Just completely split the break with that acceleration :D

Yeah it's great that he has now got rid of the deadwood

Well, he's now the only one doing any work. Moscon and Movistar rider (Pedrero) just sitting in behind him.

Remco having the craic now the pressure is off

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,330 ✭✭✭✭Dodge

Gap came down to about 2’20 (quickly from 4 minutes) but it’s 2’40 now

No flat left, downhill and then back up a monstrous climb

Very few domestiques left for any team (inc bike exchange while done all the work)

Can Dan climb the final climb faster than Bernal? Let's hope so! and faster than the other 3 breakawayers too!

    crash few down

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,123 ✭✭✭mr spuckler

Big crash! Looked like Remco went slightly over the barriers trying to avoid it...he looks shook now too.

Remco would be getting flashbacks from that

Remco nearly over the armco there towards the back of it.

It looked like Vlasov down to me but Hatch didn’t mention him

    Poor Remco :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 157 ✭✭gavinoontheweb

Great stage this, expect Bernal to take the stage and blow everyone away.

Few Astana in the group so obviously not!

Happy that Remco is continuing. Hope he’s OK obviously

Remco had some amount of bandaging on his left forearm. Cuts from the barrior I'd say.

Moscon is sat on here now from the looks of things in the break.

    Nightmare for Ciccone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,123 ✭✭✭mr spuckler

The gap has really tumbled in the run-in to the last climb. Really not looking good for Dan now.

Dan in absolutely super form... but the peloton will eventually catch him :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,661 ✭✭✭✭retalivity

Pity he hasnt 2 mins, looks super strong

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 300 ✭✭this.lad

    He's pushing on alright...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,507 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

Ineos are back on the front... they might steady the tempo a bit... fingers crossed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 157 ✭✭gavinoontheweb

No one attacking Ineos as of yet, Dan still in play.

    can he do it???????

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,763 ✭✭✭✭Inquitus

Aye Dan has a chance, not sure how good it is, fingers crossed!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,661 ✭✭✭✭retalivity

Caruso one of few in the peloton that doesn't wear glasses.
He's the spit of Eli from Boardwalk Empire

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,330 ✭✭✭✭Dodge

Everyone just hoping Ineos take it handy and don’t want Bernal to get another stage. Ha

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,123 ✭✭✭mr spuckler

That's very early for Vlasov to be losing contact. Really impressive from Dan after the work he's done all day to be maintaining the gap given the pace in the peloton.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,880 ✭✭✭✭dahat

Think Dan needs more time than what he has.

Moscon and Pedrero and Bouchard are still in the gap here, around 10 seconds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,661 ✭✭✭✭retalivity

"This is the most isolated we've seen Bernal here"

2 guys directly in front of him in a group of 20 and 1 other teammate further up the road??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,507 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

hmmmm I don't trust these time gaps

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,123 ✭✭✭mr spuckler

Those time gaps on the screen are all over the shop :pac:

0:43, then 0:56, then 1:21 then 1:43 then back to 1:25, all within the space of maybe 20 seconds!

edit...it's frustrating there's no gap to Pedrero
