Penneys is a godsend for low-income households in fairness.

    That’s the illusion all right.

First they came for the socialists...

I wouldn’t have thought so, it’s full of tat and people end up buying more than they actually need.

Having said that we shop there for the toddler as he’s grown out of them before they fall apart.

on a vaccum cleaner there is this collar on the tube that you rotate to reduce the suction. it lets air in. Its not like you are saving electricity as full motor is still going. not sure why a vaccum would have this.

When you open it it reduces the suction and so stops picking up rugs when you hoover them

Unfortunately it's true, lower income people simply cannot afford higher quality goods, penny's certainly does stock awful stuff, but this is where we re at

What language do you think 99.9% of worldwide pop hits are sung in?

Indian or Chinese I would imagine.

Gogglebox. You're watching people on the telly watching people on the telly.

Can't stand it. Very tame dialogue with a lack of calm dim lighting. Living rooms are lit up like a lighthouse.

We find Tesco really good for baby clothes. The Fred and and Flo range is just as cheap as Penney's but tends to be much better quality, a lot of their newborn and up to six month stuff is organic cotton.

People who use the phrase "touch wood". I have no idea what it means.
"Mary is having a baby soon, and touch wood, hope it all goes well"
    WHAT?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 868 ✭✭✭2lazytogetup

    That started in 1990.
    Winning Streak

i didnt get winning streak at first. then realised it is a spoof and is a joke against old people and people from rural ireland. Besides from that Marty Whelan is the greatest showman on tv.

"The origin of the custom may be in Celtic or Germanic folklore, wherein supernatural beings are thought to live in trees, and can be invoked for protection. One explanation states that the tradition derived from the pagans who thought that trees were the homes of fairies, spirits, dryads and many other mystical creatures.[1] In these instances, people might knock-on or touch wood to request good luck or to distract spirits with evil intentions. When in need of a favor or some good luck, one politely mentioned this wish to a tree and then touched the bark, representing the first "knock". The second "knock" was to say "thank you"

All makes perfect sense to me :D

It was actually an interesting concept for novelty factors alone when it started off. As soon as they became self aware though it should have been scrapped, the Vicar wearing the dog collar 24/7, the quips coming just that bit too fast.
You could see the work of media agents a season or two in.

H&M is better quality, at the same price point, and have been available to buy online the while time.

Yes H&M children's is fantastic, and more often than not they've stuff marked down and 3 for 2 at the same time :)
Penney's might be cheap too but there is definitely a whole "experience" element to it that people seem to crave. :D

Might make more sense if Mary were planting a tree, and someone suggested; "touch a baby, hope all is Okay".

With the news about the planned reopening of hospitality in Ireland, it won't be long until you have people queuing up for a carvery. Disgusting. Lumps of overcooked meat left under lights, soggy roast potatoes, vegetables boiled almost to a mush, and all drowning in gravy loaded with fat, sugar and salt to disguise the taste of the food it covers.

It's possible to get excellent food in some Irish pubs, so this fascination with the hellish carvery really baffles me.

    Sugar in peanut butter.

Or why peanut butter without sugar is so much more expensive ?

Apparently they've also become really expensive the last couple of years. I haven't had carvery for a good decade I'd say, and I just assumed they were still around the tenner mark :D

A couple of OAPs that I knew ( dead now ) would go to their nearby carvery as a 'treat'.

Limited ability to travel, wouldn't be up to cooking much anymore, so it probably was a 'treat'.

What sort of people are to be found at these ? Are most of them OAPs ? :(

Thinking about it, the carvery that they went to closed about three years ago .... perhaps carvery is on the wane ?
