I think the Mégane is a cracking looking car, really well done but that bit of gold they add to it does nothing for it and if I was buying one I'd definitely look to get it colour coded with a wrap or paint.

Time is contagious, everybody's getting old.

A relative of mine bought the launch model and didn't like the gold. I took off the bumpers, removed the parts and got a friend to spray them the same colour as the body. The parts are only clipped on but it's best to remove the bumpers. I'd probably get it wrapped gloss black maybe as it could be done on the car

got this message at charging station in Kildare outlet last thursday. unplugged, started procedure again and it worked fine second time - haven't seen it since

It's definitely well toned down from the gold on the launch edition. Picked it up Monday I think I can live it, it's more grey in some light but there is a hint of gold in it. It definitely shows up less in the flesh than photo's.

Really impressed with the car drives and handles really well. All the tech on it is new to me but mostly finding it very intuitive and works well. Infotainment system is very good and responsive. LKA and adaptive cruise control work very well. Got an Ohme charger installed today so have top up to 80% scheduled. Kw/100km average is still highish at 21 but it is coldish and the car hasn't left Sports mode 😄 I've only done 120km or so.

Took a while to get the MyRenault app connected with car and was still having server issues after finally getting it connected. Seems to be working okay now. Have Kelec installed also as back up. Ohme app seems good also. I will say I can see a lot of people struggling to get all this set up. Plenty can't seem to even pair their phone on bluetooth! Google/android auto worked seamlessly. Phone was paired wirelessly after plugging in once and QR code to link my google account made life much easier. Surprised Renault app can't use a QR code to link, typing in full email and password was a nuisance when it failed several times and had start again.

I had a very teasing message from the MyRenault app this morning. "Virtual Key: Use your mobile phone ……", but when I went into the app, there was no reference to it. Anyone else see this?

There is a reference to it in this article so it wouldn't be a complete surprise.

"Renault’s OpenR system can be linked to your personal user account and allows you to use your smartphone as a digital key – at a later stage. Today, you must use the Renault key card. "

I hope it happens soon - the Renault "key" is my main gripe about the car!

Techno 60 just ordered, Renault have some pretty compelling offers on at the moment, it was a bit of a no brainer in the end. Great that we are finally getting good affordable EV's, they have been longer overdue. I think the Megane is a cracking piece of design, and ticks an awful lot of boxes if you don't need to cart around too many people. Infotainment in particular strikes a fantastic balance between style and substance.

Looking forward to delivery, hopefully next week.

I think Renault have got the Megane and Scenic absolutely spot on. From talking to lads working in dealers the reliability of the Megane has been fantastic

New facelifted version coming this year, only a small bit of extra range, up 18km to 468 km on larger battery, main addition is the 12kw bi directional charging V2G & V2L, is added as standard, on larger battery at least. but no sign of V2G being a reality here, for years, and the facelifted model also adds one pedal driving.

The 1st link is the French market spec of the 3 variants in French,

the 2nd is the press blurb, in English

Definitely looking forward to changing to a new one next year!

Hoping maybe I get a good enough deal to flip to it in a year or two! The V2G would be a massive plus if is working here but even V2L in emergency would be good enough. Debating investing money in battery set up on house so probably a better investment.

I know I'm still getting used to it to me the full Regen mode is basically one pedal driving. If I need to stop any quicker I'd be stomping on the brake pedal anyways.

Still loving the car, the adaptive cruise control and auto lights work amazingly well. Few glitches with Renault app and haven't been able to log in sometimes. Cleared schedules on it and car and just using Ohme app charge. Only charging every 2 days, takes around 20% to do round 60km round trip to work. Average at moment is 18.8kw/100km. Still cold and in sports mode though.

One pedal driving: "may be retrofitted on Megane E-Tech electric vehicles built after March 2024.

Wonder will this be a software or hardware retrofit?

Thats not great. I have a UIL who has a Ford Explorer and he only charges it once a week on a Saturday with free electricity that we all know is not really free lol. Maybe he does very little driving. I do not know how much driving he does in an average week.

will be interesting what Renault Ireland decide to do with the updated model as the 22kw AC charger we get as standard currently is incompatible with V2L and V2G.

my reading of the 22kw ac charging option, is the car can take a charge of 22kw AC, but can only output 11kw max in a bi directional scenario, or am i misunderstanding this ?

    I love this review,

Sure it's a couple of years old but it's a very through review and why you would by an ID3 or a Cupra born over the class and perfection of the Megane E-Tech is beyond me. It will only get better with the revamp. The Scenic E-Tech addresses one ir two of the small issues he had like no rear armrest so is even better.

OK should post this in the ID3 thread to piss them of with the rubbish VW they have lol?

    Peace and long life.

Ask the reviewer, he had a cupra born as his own car and loved it. It's called choice, just because one car is great it doesn't make the others it's in competition with rubbish.

Ye ok. Maybe that was a bit harsh of me. I knew he had a Jeep Chorokee alright and some electric car but did not know which one so thanks for that.

I'd absolutely love to be getting a Megane. Quotes through a company scheme though are £50 per month over the ID3, so thats what I'm getting. Renault UK dont seem to be pushing fleet sales they way VW are, and that makes a difference. Pity, but will look at a second hand version when this lease is up… in 4 years.

Awe thats crap. The Megane is just so much better, more refined, more comfortable, with a better user interface and classier but you enjoy your Id3.

    Peace and long life.

so are all the Megane's the dealers have now the older version? i.e. with the landscape infotainment not the portrait?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,300 ✭✭✭Stallingrad

Some dealers have the larger screen model, but still a lot of the smaller screen in showrooms. Just bought one with the smaller screen, mainly because I much preferred the older instruments graphics to the new, more angular design.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 358 ✭✭tlaavtech

I have the smaller screen, and it very rarely feels like it needs to be any bigger. The larger screen means that the mobile charging pad is a lot lower and taller people have had an issue with banging their knees off them, so it's not just a case of "bigger is better".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,606 ✭✭✭fafy

but there are other improvements also, a little more range, one pedal improvement, V2L, Alpine trim, etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,300 ✭✭✭Stallingrad

Agreed. It also puts the buttons further away from your sightline while driving.

Renault residual values will also be a factor here until they start to improve which they should.

So this popped up in my phone last night from the MyRenault app:

"VirtualKey: Your smartphone is your car key".

I searched online and it said that there should be controls in the MyRenault app. I can't find anything to do with it there. Anyone here have any insight?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 184 ✭✭spudwiser

AFAIK it's not available at the moment. Provision for it has been included in the app, for use as some unknown future date.
