That's truly awful stuff. Good for cleaning bike chains. That's the best I can say about it.

Taste it back to back with a jameson, tullermore dew, powers. All a class above. Actually, can't think of anything worse than it.

Tell us how you really feel. 😂.

I've never tasted this Slane stuff, but I have had their own juice, and it's really good. I guess this is just a cheap money maker to get the money in?

Each to their own, i liked it, of all the standard offerings from Irish distilleries this had probably the most depth i can recall off the top of my head. A drop of jameson and ive heartburn all the next day, doesnt happen with any other whiskey.

At entry level prices I think that slane is excellent stuff!

Yeah ,Slane fan here too.You either like shery influenece or you dont like peat ,smoke etc .And if you do its a step above the 22-25 euro bottles .Wouldnt pay over 30 for it though.

Lol, perhaps I wasn't clear enough on my own opinions :-)

I'd really recommend not bothering with that bottle. But each to their own opinion.

I don't mind it so much. I think the quality has dropped a little over the last couple of years as they ramped up production. Id definitely reach for it over Jameson but not Powers. I suppose it just depends if I want a simple sherry hit or not.

Slane is.... fine. Inoffensive easy sipper. Nothing wrong with it at the price.

    Another easy sipper

I'm only joking! It's not a bottle I've ever sought out myself really. But with people saying it's a good sherry influenced whiskey, maybe I will now. Nothing wrong with having cheaper whiskey around for certain uses.

Teeling 15 year old single grain (Sauvignon blanc finish - the lovely dark green one). Yum.

Got Ardbeg 8 at auction and opened it last night. Very different to the 10. Both fantastic drams.

Anyone recommend some great value scotch blended malts?

Also some single grain whiskey? Have little experience with grain as in general I found the ones I tried to be harsh

    Canadian Club today. Easy sipper.

Monkey Shoulder is very drinkable, I think that's in the blended malts category? For value on it keep an eye out in airports in UK\EU.

Kilbeggan Single Grain is a good starting point, though I preferred the 8yo version to the current NAS.

If you like a little peat (not too much) then Johnnie Walker Double Black is usually great value in duty free. It's my go to cheap sipper, not a lot of depth to it but a very pleasant drop

Compass Box and Douglas Laing do excellent boytiquey blends, but you'll need to order from a specialist shop - ideally uk access - to get them.

The Chivas Regal line contains some great stuff, and is underrated.

JW core range goes without saying.

Ballantines... Cutty Sark... Both have their proponents.

Curry Sark Prohibition is a great one. Fudge-y with a bit of smoke

Big reductions at CWS on various 8 year old Glenallachies- all virgin oak finishes I think. Also an 8 year old Ardbeg. All down by about 30 quid which is an unusually significant drop for CWS.

Not sure I would rush out the door for many virgin oak finishes, not always that interesting, but may appeal to some.

    THanks for this! ^^^

Ordered the Scotiish Oak, Cuvee cask and Hugarian Oak and splitting them all three ways with a couple of mates so pretty cool and a great deal! Those whiskies are still close to £60 in the UK so thats quite the bargain! Very unusal for Ireland i have to say. Well done Ireland! 😁

What was the site mentioned on here before that shipped from bond from Wexford?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,329 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

Alas they won't arrive in time for Burns Night :)

The placed using the bonded facility in Wexford is The Single Malt Shop - I was the one who mentioned ordering the Glenglassaugh Sandend.

Tried a sample of the Glenallachie Cuvee cask over Christmas, nice stuff and a great pickup at the 40 quid price.

You're right a lot Burns night I'll have to tear the house apart looking for another scotch.... 😬😃
