I'd be worried too! I hope you get the rear door sorted. I did see a review on YouTube where the rubber seal on the sliding door protrudes when closing. Not the same thing I know but worth a mention

I can’t for the life of my me see the value/reason in an ID buzz without there being 7 seats.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,055 ✭✭✭joe1303l

Adds up as to why the dealers here can’t shift the few 5 seat versions they have in stock. A 7 seat LWB version is on the way but it’s likely to be well overpriced to sell in any significant numbers. If the current version even had an option for 3 seats in front as per the commercial van, they could have sold it as 6 seater crew cab type variant. 77kWh is probably not enough either considering the size/shape/weight but the LWB version is likely to be available with a larger pack.

If the seats are removable the load capacity of a van is an absolute swizz army knife in many applications.

I keep a van for this specific purpose and I don't think il ever not have one. Allows me to pick up stuff that others can't. And saved a fortune over the years.

Lwb of this would be a better proposition though.

You’d need to be saving some fortune to justify an ID Buzz

Point being if your going electric Anyway there's a utility in having a van style vehicle 2 for one. So the notion that it's a weird proposition to own one is not that weird.

This thread should be split into buzz haters and lovers lol. I met a fellow buzz lover when I came out of Tescos earlier - he was taking photos to send to his wife as he wants one after seeing mine.

Most people manage to justify their new car purchases with a simple "I want one" so I don't see how everyone is going to suddenly turn into an accountant for the Buzz

I really like the ID.Buzz but as a 5 seat vehicle it seems overpriced based on the current price list. Obviously a nearly new high spec one with a decent discount would be tempting. Hopefully the LWB will make it the car it should have been if VW are sensible with pricing. They need to introduce a leather interior option too, cloth seating is crazy on a €70k vehicle.

  • Registered Users Posts: 325 ✭✭Tech_Head

I don’t think it’s Buzz lovers and haters. I followed it from when it was announced, waited patiently but the price is seriously inflated. VW aren’t along but there is no way the Buzz should be >€50k.

The entry spec is very poor also - plastic galore, terrible screen, no aircon in the backseats (windows dont even roll down).

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,635 ✭✭✭creedp

Surely overpriced but good to see the return to vogue of the mpv which for too long was eschewed by the those who enjoy life

I had a Multivan Highline auto for years. Four captains chairs on the first 2 rows, all four swiveled with the second row on rails in the floor, the rear bench was also on rails and could slide the full length of the floor, it also could be made into a bed. Row two and three could be taken out easily. The seats were all proper leather and the smell in the van was always pure leather. This what the Buzz should have been.

I had the Buzz out for a day last November to check the efficiency. I wondered if the range would work for me and planned a 300km circular route to get back to the garage. It was a damp chilly November day, but I really wanted to test the efficiency so I drove at 90kmh with no heat, determined to find out what was possible in winter. I'm normally good at squeezing range out of an EV and tried every trick in the book.

I had to abandon the route about 100kms in as it was clear that I wouldn't get back to the garage if I tried to go the full 300km loop. The very best that I could get was 23kWh/100km. Don't forget, this was at 90kms max and no heat! This wasn't enough for me and I cancelled my order when I returned to the dealer.

The flexibility of the interior was underwhelming too. No rails or ability to remove the second row isn't good for this type of vehicle. It's just an ID4 estate really. No opening rear seat windows is very odd. I had the same problem that has been mentioned above regarding access to the front seats. There is a sort of a step, but it doesn't help for some reason. I think it's a bit too high.

I'll take another look at it when the LWB arrives and see it it's any better. Maybe VW will make the SWB the van it should have been.

I got back from two weeks camping around the island with the Buzz Max. The return leg from Tralee to Dublin was 18.5 kWh/100km which I'm happy with for two people, a dog and a full boot. It's a brick shaped van, as a previous poster said here or elsewhere. It was 16 kWh/100km before the motorway. Figures aside, I am learning that I don't need motorway chargers for long trips as I'm getting confident with the car.

It was quite handy being able to charge on the camp site, I didn't use any public chargers for the entire trip.

It's exceptionally, exceptionally comfortable. My Mercs and Audi's from my more conventional times were simply not as comfortable as this. I've covered well over 2000km in a very short space of time and I just don't feel it. With that said, it is a tad loud on the motorway, which is a pain. It's no louder than my B8 Passat though, to be fair but I understand that is also a comfort metric. I just can't believe how fresh I am after long trips. The seating position is an eye opener.

It's an €81k vehicle I got for €65k as an ex demo, so deals are to be had as they are too expensive for dealers to shift. Put dealers under pressure, they haven't been as cocky selling this as they were when I was scoping out "regular" EVs.

The haters only appear on forums. Everyone I've spoken to has been impressed with it and are delighted for us, but we are trialling it as a camper and daily driver combined. The camping community "gets" it, it seems. I've lost count of the people who have made their way over to talk about it.

One general thing I will say is, even if you can't get your head around why someone would get one, be mindful that there can be some compelling reasons to do so. I'm definitely a special case, but it's already paid for itself for it's first year.

You won't get leather, or if you do it'll be synthetic. VW are going animal free with their interiors

I actually prefer the fabric seats, prevents the back sweat on long drives, or being cooked alive when the car has been sitting in the sun

No issue with synthetic, all manufacturers have moved in this direction. Some of them are such good quality you’ll struggle to see the difference. I get the benefits of cloth in really warm climates but leather seating really lifts the look of an interior. Great to wipe clean too if you’ve kids. I just think the ID.Buzz interior seat fabrics look cheap in a €70K+ vehicle. A VW Caravelle interior with leather captains chairs etc. looks so much more upmarket.

I wonder have VW banned beef from their canteen🤔 Must admit I think a leather interior really lifts a car interior and not only that it feels more luxurious but also I really like the smell of leather. However, we can't stop the march of progress, so the leather interior is heading in the same direction as the manual tranmission

Never liked leather myself. Had Napa leather it my M3. And yes I think people are told its more premium. But its cold in the winter hence the need to heat it. It's warm and sticky in the summer hence the need to cool it. Leathers not premium its a mindset. And I don't think it wears or cleans any better than modern materials frankly.

You have to facilitate leather to have it rather than it just be. Don't get me started on rejuvenating it and crack prevention.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,935 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

Afraid I disagree with both of ye, never really got the appeal of leather beyond ease of cleaning

One of the kids managed to spill milk or something on the fabric seat of my ID.4 and I'm pleased to say the fabric is actually really easy to clean. A few wet clothes and some Dettol and it was grand.

I'll probably get yelled at for not using some specialist cleaning product but that's what I had to hand 😝

I think if you're able to get to any spills quickly you're fine. Also car seat covers are a good investment 😁

So if I could find a Buzz at €65,000 I'd probably buy. I'd like a Dublin reg. Is that silly?

Anyway, any links to good deals would be most welcome. I'd be happy to drive to Kerry etc to pick up. Think I'll head to Joe Duffy for starters to see if I can find anything.

    Thank you.

I was playing around with park assist yesterday - Buzz thought I was trying to lead him to his death lol 😂

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,935 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

Check DoneDeal, there's a few going for under 65k although you need to check the details to see if that price includes some special offers

Case in point, here's on in Kerry which sneakily includes €4k scrappage in the list price, actual price without scrappage is just under €65k

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/volkswagen-id-buzz-pro-77kwh-204hp-swb-412km-ran/34170080

Frankly, I'd be tempted to ring up the garage and ask what kind of car qualifies for scrappage and if I could get some banger for around a grand I'd drive that in and get the scrappage deal

I have only had leather in one car and I really like it. I know I'm probably an outlier in that I don't find it cold and have never used the heated seats other than the evening I picked it up and couldn't understand why I was getting the got flushes😂 (I don't have ventilated seats so can't comment but tbh they might be hot for a few minutes when I get in but after that I don't take any notice.

For me I would forgo the soft touch dash and door cards, which I never touch, for leather seats. Never understood the fascination with soft dashes

If you’re looking on DoneDeal etc to answer my own question a few pages back - a plus model is a First with the ‘Plus’ options so parking assist plus, surround cameras etc. The VW U.K. site configurator will give you a better idea.

I contacted that garage in the last week about a different VW. Told them I had a car that was until recently on the road, taxed but no NCT. The man on the phone seemed to think there would be no issue with it as a scrappage.

But I didn't go any further than that so not certain. Give them a call and see what happens.

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,317 ✭✭✭✭ted1

I bought my ID4 from that garage. ( in the recommendation of someone here)

the scrppage is real. I rang every dealer in the country and saved a few €K by going to them. got 3k scrappage for a 2007 VW Touran which was on its last legs

the car did die before the car arrived….

got flights down from Dublin €40 for myself and wife and they collected us from the Airport which is 6km away. Great service

Yeah happy out. Over 30k km on it. Very solid on the road with the all wheel drive. Love the extra power but sucks that it drops off below 80 percent battery.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,635 ✭✭✭creedp

Seriously that seems mad. Presumably you keep her topped up so😂
